Human Nature by Rikako Nagashima

March 13, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Japan, Portfolios, 2018

"In a deep-red homage to Anish Kapoor, artist Rikako Nagashima has tangled together HUMAN NATURE, an installation Kapoor’ish in scale, color and intention. HUMAN NATURE has been installed at two locations. Her work has been suspended through multiple levels of Tokyo’s MVRDV-designed eye of Gyre gallery, and has consumed the life of a concrete clinic-turned-art-gallery by schemata architects in japan — the latter of which is pictured here, tied-together."

"Anish Kapoor is believed by many to be an artist devoted to dichotomy. Blood, vortexes, voids — his works certainly convey paradoxes. Life, death, happiness, sorrow. they’re beautiful and ugly and they often tie into life and religions in india. as such, Rikako seeks to create a dichotomy of her own — an homage that draws inspiration from kapoor’s artistic execution, and draws dichotomies from her own culture’s philosophy, Yin and Yang"

Made by Humans on Earth

March 11, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Motioncollector, USA, 2018

Elon Musk made a surprise appearance at HBO‘s Westworld panel at SXSW, joining friend and Westworld creator Jonathan Nolan to release an epic trailer of the SpaceX Heavy Falcon rocket launch that carried Spaceman into orbit.

"The highlight reel was created by Nolan, who spoke about the importance of inspiration and the excitement he felt as a child when watching Super 8 footage of Saturn rocket launches — a collective enthusiasm that has seemingly dwindled in recent times. “And so I was having a drink last year with a friend, and we were talking about how do you inspire people? How do you get people to talk again, how can you drive the conversation?” said Nolan. The friend turned out to be Musk and the solution they came up with was a red sports car and David Bowie‘s track “Starman"" via Hypebeast

To present their recent fragrance for men  YSL Beauté asked the renowned Russian calligraphy master Pokras Lampas to set a performance during their Moscow leg of the international Y campaign. The challenge was not new for Pokras - 2 Hours, 5 Meters "Y" letter and 1 Artist in made his own epic #calligrafuturism manner

A post shared by Calligraphy by Pokras Lampas 🔥 (@pokraslampas) on Feb 2, 2018 at 7:46am PST

“Performance Arts — a special mix of skills, emotions and unpredicted things.
I love to challenge myself with the projects where randomness replaces any boundaries of comfort.

Climb up 5 meters to paint a huge letter “ Y “ ?
Why not. Keep it on tight timings? Great, there is gonna be a lot of paint splashes.
Any experiments is an invaluable experience and emotions from the result and the process of creation.”

Art of Lorna Simpson

Hauser & Wirth London
March 07, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Sculpture, Portfolios, United Kingdom, 2018

Lorna Simpson’s inaugural exhibition at Hauser & Wirth London, ‘Unanswerable’, features new and recent work across three different media: painting, photographic collage and sculpture. Simpson came to prominence in the 1980s through her pioneering approach to conceptual photography, which featured striking juxtapositions of text and staged images and raised questions about the nature of representation, identity, gender, race and history. These concerns are reflected throughout the exhibition to present the artist’s expanding and increasingly multi-disciplinary practice today

Lorna Simpson: Unanswerable is on view at Hauser & Wirth, London, through April 28.

Lux Notis II by Reuben Wu

March 07, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Photography, Portfolios, USA, 2018

This ongoing project entitled Lux Noctis II (view Lux Noctis I) by Chicago-based photographer Reuben Wu "depicts landscapes within the framework of traditional landscape photography but influenced by ideas of planetary exploration, 19th-century sublime romantic painting, and science fiction." Wu imagined these scenes as the familiar transformed into undiscovered landscapes to renew perceptions of our world.

“Each image is a carefully-planned scene consisting of multiple lighting positions, layered to produce a theatrically-lit composition. Using the GPS-enabled aerial light/drone in specific positions in space, I am able to create moods of drama and tension through chiaroscuro, and the ability to illuminate isolated features of a scene and exclude unwanted elements.”

TOCA ME 18 Opening Titles

March 06, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Motioncollector, Germany, 2018

Recently hosted TOCA ME festival invited leading motion artists Susi Sie and Remo Gambacciani to create Official Titles of the event.

The ever-changing landscapes inspired by organic textures and surfaces within surreal worlds created by processing live action scenes with CG techniques. To create morphing textures MATERIA (Susi Sie and Remo Gambacciani) captured slowly spreading color on even surfaces.

The score was composed by Gavin Little from ECHOLAB.  Inspired by seismic and earth shifting movements, he created geological seeming sounds. By burying contact microphones underground in soil and recording vibrations, he captured breathtaking, natural sounds of shifting earth and grinding rocks. For the score he used a hybrid of organic and digital sounds, a musical progression that matched the swell of the movements from texture to texture.

Collage Art by Igor Skaletsky

March 05, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, Russia, 2018

"Tel-Aviv, Moscow and Berlin -based artist. In his works Igor Skaletsky freely manipulates the recognizable images of the history of art and high culture, and ironically unites them in the stylistics of fashion magazines. His works send us back to patterns of our perception and at the same time destroy them. Our visual habits, this secret passage to the unconscious, become juggling toys in his hands. The spectator lives through his images as if through the shock of unexpected discovery of a familiar story."

Cité de l’Océan et du Surf - Ocean Museum in Biarritz, France

March 01, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, France, 2018

New York-based studio Steven Holl Architects and Solange Fabião designed a museum in Biarritz, France dedicated to oceanic issues.

"Entitled ‘Cité de l’Océan et du Surf’, the museum’s design is based on the dual concept of “under the sky” / “under the sea”. Hosting a public plaza and gardens surrounding the museum’s main exhibition space, the complex merges landscape design and architecture, bridging the building to the ocean nearby. Cité de l’Océan et du Surf was named Public Building of the Year by the 2011 Emirates Glass LEAF Awards." via iGNANT

February 28, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Illustration, South Korea, Portfolios, 2018

"Seoul-based artist WanJim Gim illustrates the form and gesture of the human body using complex hatched layers of color and dramatic lighting. He adds intrigue to poses that could be considered traditional figure drawing studies by adding abstracted lines and watercolor washes that integrate the fragmented body parts into a larger visual field."

Street Art Installations by Trevor Wheatley and Cosmo Dean

February 27, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Canada, Street Art, Typography, 2018

"Trevor Wheatley and Cosmo Dean work together to create large installations based around phrases and logos that are part of the common lexicon. Casually used terms like “all good” and the shrug emoji take on larger-than-life dimensions in the duo’s three dimensional versions, which are suspended from cables, integrated into chain link fences, toted in truck beds, and painted alongside graffiti. Wheatley and Dean have partnered with music festivals, fashion brands, and the creative house Justkids to install their work. Up next, the artists will be embarking on a trip to Mexico to create new paintings in rural areas." via Colossal

Poor Cherries

February 26, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Fashion, Motioncollector, 2018

LA-based director and photographer Jimmy Marble’s latest film was influenced by Czech avant-garde director Věra Chytiiová's Daisies (1966), which was a colorful frolic through banquets, boyfriends, and the bourgeoisie. Known for making poppy commercial content, Marble’s newest project takes a playful approach to the world around us.

Presented by NOWNESS

The American filmmaker explains how he “used strong visuals to play with emotions in an unconscious way. Like music, it is impressionistic, in that you’re trying to create more of a mood than a story.” The resulting film is an offbeat dayglo daydream told through the eyes of two irreverent characters, who cherish lovers’ quarrels and summer clouds in equal measure.

Concept Art by Zeen Chin

February 26, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Malaysia, Portfolios, 2018

Can't help ourselves by fixing our eyes on digital paintings from Zeen Chin, whose ideas seem to blossom in an unwieldly fashion, and whose muted color palettes and anime-esque content create a beautiful dissonance that still remains painterly.
