Digital Futurism by STRANO

March 04, 2024 by Arseny Vesnin in 2024, Digital Art, Motioncollector, NFT Art, Portfolios, Canada

Marcel Giannoccaro, the Canadian digital artist, reimagines the architectural futurism that was initiated by his ancestors counterparts a century ago.

Giannoccaro's work embodies futuristic architecture and the dramatic visions of early sci-fi cinema. This exploration digs into his artistry, from inspiration to execution.

Eric Pause's Abstract Figures: A mesmerising fusion of time-frozen moments

September 07, 2023 by Arseny Vesnin in 2023, Art, NFT Art, Canada, Portfolios

Enter the captivating world of artist Eric Pause, where abstract figure paintings seamlessly blend multiple timeless moments into one stunning visual experience.

View fullsize eric-pause-1.jpeg
View fullsize eric-pause-3.jpeg

While most paintings capture a single moment, Eric Pause, an Ontario-based artist, aims to seize multiple moments in his striking figurative artworks. Drawing inspiration from the Italian Futurists, who merged time, place, and form, his art conveys motion and the passage of time through abstract shapes that overlap and intertwine.

Drawing various geometric shapes, Pause skillfully portrays figures in simultaneous states of activity and repose. His deliberate use of a restrained colour palette of blues, oranges, and white accentuates the composition's fragmented nature while providing a unifying element across his diverse acrylic paintings.

If Viktor Vasnetsov ever joined pre-raphaelites, the art of Anthony Ventura can be their logic heritage. “A trip into the world of Anthony Ventura is a memorable one, bringing you through pop culture, horror and earth grounded fantasy turned Greek tragedy.”

Contemporary artist Krista Kim, who was a part of our latest Digital Decade 2020 edition and had collaborations with brands such as Lamborghini and Lanvin, has ventured into the crypto-creative field, announcing her design of the first digital home available for purchase as an NFT file. Krista is not the only designer to do shift to digital work; just a few weeks ago, another friend of us, the Argentinian designer Andrés Reisinger sold 10 virtual pieces of furniture in an online auction.

Loop by Stuart Langfield

January 28, 2021 by Arseny Vesnin in 2021, Canada, Motioncollector, Portfolios, United Kingdom
@stuartlangfield

An immersive sci-fi short by writer-director Stuart Langfield. “Loop” centres around a reclusive former tech CEO’s quest to teach AI how to experience and process true human emotions. However these ’emotion experiments’ involve a series of scripted scenarios that seem to do more to call basic humanity into question as the film blurs the lines between drama and sci-fi, human and machine, real and artificial.

loop-stuart-langfield-2.jpg
loop-stuart-langfield-1.jpg
“Loop is an artistic exploration of a simple hypothesis: emotion cannot be programmed, it must be felt and experienced to be real. I started exploring this concept while observing my young son discover and display new emotions through his own direct experience and contact with others. He was learning to process the feelings of anger, joy, disappointment, sadness, and I found this progression of maturity fascinating and insightful. I started to question whether replicating an emotive incident could result in a similar reaction every time and, if so, could we program a machine to feel?”

Continuum Remix v.2 is the second in a series of works by Krista Kim in collaboration with Efren Mur (@efrenmur) and Ligovskoï (@ligvsk) to be released on Sedition Art platform. Continuum Remix v.1 was launched in Summer 2020 as part of the @Digital.Decade SE 2020 collection, curated by us - @Designcollector Network.

“Meditation will save us from the machine; art will save us from ourselves. I believe in the healing and transformational power of visual art + sound + meditation on an individual and a social level.
Our future is unknown and unstable. There are difficult times ahead due to social and economic unrest due to pandemic risk, digital disruption, automation and climate change. Collective fear is undeniable, but we cannot allow ourselves to be dominated by fear — we must face the unknown with open hearts and mindfulness. In chaos, there is creative opportunity. We must create a better future with compassion and love.
My collaboration with Efren Mur (video artist) and Ligovskoï (electronic music band) was created during the COVID-19 crisis. Our purpose is to present a vision of meditativeness and digital beauty to collective consciousness. The world is forever changed, and we must adapt with mindfulness, self care and connection to creative energy that will help us navigate the unknown.”

Woman In Veil

Woman In Veil

“We provisionally give the name differance to this sameness which is not identical: by the silent writing of its a, it has the desired advantage to referring to differing; both as spacing / temporalizing and as the movement that structures every dissociation”
— Jacques Derrida in ''Differance'', 1968
The Beginning (Winged Lion of Mosul)

The Beginning (Winged Lion of Mosul)

Following artist’s statement, “Differance is the questioning of inherent power structures within cultural, linguistic, technological or societal systems. By making this non-identical sameness at the heart of my art-making, I mimic, imitate, copy, tweak and ultimately alter these structures. I then present something visually familiar to the viewer while keeping this spacing at the forefront of their experience.

This process has two aims; firstly I wish to make these systems apparent to you, viewers, so as to question your own relation to it. Secondly, by giving a new understanding to what we know, I reveal the fragility of these systems and the possibility for individuals and communities to interact, take part in it, and reshape it.
No structure is infallible, nothing is stable ; the world is an ever changing photograph.”

Alice Zilberberg Photography

January 13, 2020 by Arseny Vesnin in 2020, Canada, Portfolios, Photography

Toronto-based artist Alice Zilberberg shares her latest series “Meditations”. In this series, Alice creates animal montages as an expression of self-therapy. As an urbanite, functioning day-to-day in a fast-paced, built environment can be emotionally unsettling. The artist regrounds herself in the sense of calm issued by these animals. These creatures reinstate a presence, a tranquility, and a grander perspective. The works are an amalgam of many photographs from different locations around the world, put together seamlessly by the artist in post-production. Their minimal aesthetic is metaphorical of striving for simplicity. Rather than ruminating on the past, or hypothesizing the future, Zilberberg’s works invite a meditative state, encouraging the viewer to stay still and find happiness in the moment.
