Pause Fest 2019 - A New Hope
A collaboration between Russian post-production studio LOOP and number of talented artists resulted as a motion reel for the Pause Fest 2019 starting this days in Melbourne.
’A New Hope' is a challenging metaphor for everyone affected by the tech age that still considers some developments today as normal in our culture, traditions and society. We are not programmed well enough to foresee what the exponential technology can do to our society. How much are we going to pay for all bad decisions that we are making today? ‘A New Hope’ digs deep into our worst nightmares and what could happen if we loose control over those exponential tech advances. This video depicts how popularity mixed with power can easily transform our society into unpleasant and dangerous place. We have a high hope that our collective consciousness will drive us to a much brighter, safer, happier, inclusive and prosperous place.

“Alice, 12 year-old girl, is homeless and works as a courier. One day she receives a request - to deliver a big teddy bear to the boss of a criminal gang. Along the way, unexpectedly, the teddy bear comes alive and becomes Alice's only friend. She decides to cancel the delivery and keep a teddy bear. What she doesn’t suspect is that it is stuffed with cocaine and now she is being hunted.”

There is always a good chance for designers to imagine their favourite brand having a new identity. This happens with Slack (@SlackHQ) again after they rolled out new visual system designed by Pentagram (@pentagramdesign). We won’t comment on it as there is a huge backslash on social network regarding the new style. But we definitely want to show you another great example of “how it could be if”.. talented Russian art director Oleg Turbaba takes over it. Of course, we are not saying it is perfect, but take a look:
“This is my personal vision of how Slack’s logo could be represented with its new identity. My research was started with exploring brilliant work done by Pentagram with Slack’s redesign. Then I tried to search deeper and simplify both Slack’s old and new logos to their extremum.
As a symbol, I’ve decomposed an old Slack’s logo, taken one component (the message) and used it as a core of my concept. The way I see it, the message is the main theme of the Slack. Then I experimented with some modularity and dynamic logo things”

Layers - Art Film by Maxim Zhestkov
“Layers is a 4K digital art film exploring the juxtaposition of the outside and inside. Computer-generated dark and brutal geometric monoliths are dissected by invisible 3D objects to reveal the layers of the colourful and emotionally vibrant inner structures. At the intersections of the shapes we encounter complex structures which could be perceived as 3D representations of objects within a 4D universe.”
Cognition
Cognition is the media art installation by Radugadesign at Stockholm City Hall. Created and produced in collaboration with composer and pianist Nikola Melnikov, for Asko Appliances AB.
In 2017 Radugadesign presented the audiovisual performance "Cognition" (for Asko brand) in Stockholm City Hall developed in the collaboration with composer and pianist Nikola Melnikov.. The installation of "Cognition" is an expression of striving for the perfect shape. Everything can be perfect–whether it is a geometric figure or a person.
Largest Calligraphy in the World by Pokras Lampas
World leading calligraphy artist Pokras Lampas has just beat his own record on doing the largest calligraphy ever drawn by one person. You can see his previous biggest roofs done for FENDI or Red October but here is another story

The new record was set within the framework of collaboration with Lokomotiv football club — the artist painted the square in front of RZD Arena (team’s home ground in Cherkizovo) in red and green — the reigningchampions’ club colors. The painting covers the area of 11,000 square meters.

The choice of location for the new art object was deliberate. Back in the Soviet days Cherkizovsky Parkused to bring art and sport together. The Stalinets stadium built here in 1935, was lavishly decorated with sculptures. The most famous among them was, perhaps, “The girl with an Oar” by Romuald Iodko — its four-meter copy printed on a 3D printer this simmer was painted by Pokras Lampas for Gorky Park. The new stadium built on the site of Stalinets has become a well-known arena for not just football games but also for first rate entertainment, art performances and concerts, it is used for shooting episodes about football.
According to Pokras Lampas, his new artwork brings together sport and art, taking up such topics as pushing the limits and conquering new peaks. As usual, Pokras encrypts a hidden message in his massive calligraffiti to be found and revealed by the audience. A shining example of profound symbolism and powerful meaning to be recognized is the installation “18 words about Vasily Vereshchagin” at the entrance to the New Tretyakov Gallery. The art object nearby RZD Arena has been no exception, as it implies a new slogan of Locomotiv which is “We go our (own) way”.

“Only by remaining independent, believing in your own values and overcoming difficulties, you can leave a mark on history. In sports the same laws apply, and only those who remain committed to their goals, no matter what, reach the highest level. “We go our way” is a vector of development which is very close to me as an artist. The line is written in numerous languages — it emphasizes multiculturalism of modern sport.”

Maxim Zhestkov - Optics
Talented Russian media artist Maxim Zhestkov released his long-waited film "Optics". It's an experimental art film exploring the behavior of artificial light and color in digital environments. Blending architectural gallery space with computer-generated digital glass sculptures, we encounter animated refractions, chromatic aberrations, colourful reflection and other conditions which are impossible in reality. A series of tests and explorations guides us through different optical conditions of the bright and colorful digital universe.
The film was initiated as an experimental series of tests in Zhestkov.Studio. After some research, the studio realized that the beauty and visual power of these explorations could be transformed into an art film rather than remain a series of tests. For a couple of months, programmers and artists at Zhestkov.Studio developed different approaches and played with the infinite visual possibilities opened up by refractions and reflections with sound design by Marcelo Baldin.

“We developed over 1000 tools and principles of working with light and refractive/reflective surfaces. Coders wrote dozens of lines in Python to achieve some of the effects and behaviours of light. In the end, we produced some truly amazing results. Light and refraction, in reality, can behave only in one way in one condition, but in the digital world, where we don’t have real-world restrictions, we can animate every condition and step further into the understanding of light and colour”

"It's been exactly 5 years since I created experimental video «Pacific Light» (2013), where I first mixed oil, water and ink together in a bright dance of colors. Since then, I’ve developed my style by experimenting with graphics and adding new ingredients. I used metallic paints in the projects "O D Y S S E Y" (2015) and "Sweet Dreams" (2016), and worked with neon colors in "NEON 4K" (2016)."

For sure, White Nights season 2018 (late June - mid July, yes, sun does not roll down literally) was the best with the enormous weather, millions of tourists and FIFA fans, festivals, open-airs, restaurant streets, Crimson Sails Proms and magnificent city that took a heart of each person being here, even living for ages like us.

The mural «Д ¥ Ā Л И З М» (Dualism) has appeared on the inner wall of the WYNWOOD design hotel at the very heart of St. Petersburg. The artist’s lecture will take a place there on August 2, 2018.
Collaboration between POKRAS LAMPAS and the WYNWOOD design hotel is not accidental. Modern musicians and artists from all over the world stay here, fashionable St. Petersburg citizens go for breakfasts or brunches. The main sights of the city, clubs and bars, museums are just nearby.
“WYNWOOD hotel is located at the very heart of the city and is literally surrounded by the art.
Half of the rooms have a magnificent view of the Kazan Cathedral and the Griboyedov Canal,
and the second part of the rooms overlook the courtyard on the brandmauer (firewall) with a
typical for St. Petersburg “gray” view. So, there was an idea to turn this wall into an art object
and entrust its execution to the most famous street artist in Russia.”
Lampas’s work «Д ¥ Ā Л И З М» is a Manifesto, dedicated to the duality of the perception of contemporary art. Its text in two languages, helping the viewer to explore both differences between alphabets and cultural references in the forms of letters, and combining them into the context of calligraphy of the future. Dualism also reflects in the choice of color: the left part of the work is closer to the original range of the facade, while the right part is more contrast. Together they form the complete picture. The text itself is a Manifesto of Millennials with the values of past generations, made by borrowing the forms of letters from western and eastern, ancient and modern calligraphy. «Д ¥ Ā Л И З М» is the largest mural by Pokras Lampas in St.Petersburg — it covers an area of more than 250 square meters.

Saint-Petersburg-based designer Yaroslav Misonzhnikov shares his recent work - nixie-tube clocks on marble and wood platforms commissioned by Past Indicator brand.
All of their clocks have nixie tubes, that were popular in the USSR era. While working on the new design of the clock, Yaroslav was inspired by an architectural element — diamond-pointed rustication. The clock, that was named Saturn-5 is made of natural marble and is serially manufactured.
