Dingyun Zhang x Antoni Tudisco: "NOT IN PARIS"

February 04, 2021 by Arseny Vesnin in 2021, Advertising, Digital Art, Fashion, Motioncollector, NFT Art

@dingyun_zhang & @antonitudisco

Curated by Highsnobiety and presented during the time period formerly known as Paris Men’s Fashion Week, “Not In Paris 2” is a second in a series of bi-annual digital exhibitions celebrating creativity in the age of remote interactions.

“Dingyun Zhang, the 25-year old Chinese Central Saint Martins graduate and YEEZY designer hadn’t even sold a single product. He still hasn’t. Yet the demand for his namesake brand’s signature oversized puffers, trousers, and sleeveless vests has continued to skyrocket. Everyone from A$AP Nast, Jerry Lorenzo, and Tremaine Emory to Mowalola, Hidden.ny, and sneaker legend Steven Smith now follow him on IG, Rihanna, CL, and Kaia Gerber have worn his design samples, and (in secret) some of the biggest retailers have started placing orders.”

In October, the designer partnered with Italian-Filipino art director and 3D artist Antoni Tudisco on a set of 3D rendered film stills and short animations that featured exaggerated versions of Zhang’s MA puffers and YEEZY sneakers, set in utopian landscapes. It was a case study to show how the brand could build buzz outside of traditional big budget runway shows and big scale advertising campaigns. It worked, with the first set of images getting up to three times as much as engagement as usual.

Tudisco grew up in Hamburg, Germany — and started getting approached by commercial clients after he published sketches and rough renderings on Facebook a couple of years ago — and says he’s recently recognised a rise in big brands like Balenciaga started incorporating animations in their work. Zhang, in his mind, made the perfect potential collaborator.

For Highsnobiety’s Not in Paris II exhibition, the duo pushes their collaboration a step further by introducing their longest video to date:

Heterochromia iridum by Rus Khasanov

February 02, 2021 by Arseny Vesnin in 2021, Digital Art, Motioncollector, Portfolios, Russia

An entrancing short film by designer and artist Rus Khasanov (previously) fuses multiple optical tricks into a single work.

“The hypnotic footage utilizes pareidolia—the inclination to see an object where it physically doesn’t exist—while referencing heterochromia iridum, a fairly common condition in which a person’s irises are multi-colored, sometimes in the forms of spikes radiating around the pupil or swirls that split the tissue with different hues. Khasanov’s rendition mimics that phenomenon through saturated droplets and innumerable veins that plume outward.” via Colossal

Loop by Stuart Langfield

January 28, 2021 by Arseny Vesnin in 2021, Canada, Motioncollector, Portfolios, United Kingdom
@stuartlangfield

An immersive sci-fi short by writer-director Stuart Langfield. “Loop” centres around a reclusive former tech CEO’s quest to teach AI how to experience and process true human emotions. However these ’emotion experiments’ involve a series of scripted scenarios that seem to do more to call basic humanity into question as the film blurs the lines between drama and sci-fi, human and machine, real and artificial.

“Loop is an artistic exploration of a simple hypothesis: emotion cannot be programmed, it must be felt and experienced to be real. I started exploring this concept while observing my young son discover and display new emotions through his own direct experience and contact with others. He was learning to process the feelings of anger, joy, disappointment, sadness, and I found this progression of maturity fascinating and insightful. I started to question whether replicating an emotive incident could result in a similar reaction every time and, if so, could we program a machine to feel?”

MCR_XPRMNT+SND by Azamat Akhmadbaev

January 07, 2021 by Arseny Vesnin in 2021, Digital Art, Motioncollector, Portfolios, Russia, United Kingdom, NFT Art
@azamatakhmadbaev

Digital Decade resident, artist Azamat Akhmadbaev dropped a personal release on Sedition Art Platform, London.

MCR_XPRMNT+SND

This series of video artworks is a metaphysical trip to another reality between our vision and perception. In accordance with the postulates of postmodernism and legacy of Derrida, the artist plays with the language of color, providing the opportunity to rethink our links with the current world through kitsch and low fidelity. Macro video recording and experimental sounds in videos are 'entry points' to the new stage of postmodernism where a viewer can melt a metaphysical body and disappear to leave marks in the internal world.

The collection name is derived from the words "macro", "experiment" and "sound".

WARNING: These videos have been identified to potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.

Santi Zoraidez shared a collection of his best 3D work done in 2020

santi-zoraidez-2020-6.jpg
“It has been a difficult year for all of us. A year full of complications, fears, anxiety and frustration. I feel like a landmark year, an opportunity to start over, grow and be better. Personally, I have to say that even with everything that was happening around me I have been able to do great things and I am grateful for that. Things that seemed difficult to achieve at the beginning of the year. That’s why I wanted to make this edit with a selection of the best work I have been doing during the last years. As a full stop and move to the next step from here. I’ve lost 20kg and am running almost every day on the beach in Barcelona, the city I’ve dreamed of living in for a long time. It feels great how ideas come to mind again as I do it. ”

Studio Studies

October 08, 2020 by Arseny Vesnin in 2020, Art, Motioncollector, Russia

Studio Studies is a series of video interviews with St. Petersburg artists and a logical continuation of the work with the artists' studios, which was launched as part of the 1st Curatorial Forum. Then, in the fall of 2019, the artists of St. Petersburg opened the doors of their studios to the public. The program called Open Studios raised important questions about the ethics of visiting and hospitality, the attitude of the artist and the public, and the very essence of these private spaces.

In 2020, we continued to work with the studios, now in an exploratory way, to clarify for ourselves, the audience, and the artists the designated "blind spots". We revised the format of open studios in favor of videos about the artist's life in the studio. This decision was also forced by the epidemiological situation, in which we think it is right to avoid mass visits to the studios.

Calling the series Studio Studies, we appeal to an already existing field of knowledge, relatively developed in European and American art criticism. Studio Studies is an area of knowledge that explores the artist's studio as an ecosystem of aesthetic and material production, and as a place that defines the entire future cultural process. We asked questions about the artist's daily life, looked at internal processes and relations with the outside world, i.e. we were engaged in topology and ethics of these special spaces.

Based on a research perspective, we invited artists representing different types of contemporary art: painters, graphic artists, sculptors, photographers, media artists, activists, etc. in order to see, perhaps, the specific routine of each direction.

RORSCHACH

September 16, 2020 by Arseny Vesnin in 2020, Digital Art, Motioncollector, Italy
“Fascinated by the shapes of the so-called RORSCHACH “inkblot” tests,
I felt the need to animate these symmetrical structures.
I wanted to bring them to life. And – most of all – into the three-dimensional space.”
— Remo Gambacciani

“Since the shapes are not perfectly symmetrical, I looked for a way to mirror my structures early on in the process and created the fine details on top.

I liked the play with the materiality. The inkblots in these tests have very soft and flowing shapes. Contrary to that, I wanted to design the surface materiality of my objects in a very hard and stony way. The movement of the object though should still be morphing and flowing.

A very nice aspect and a parallel to abstract art in general is the fact that everyone reads something different from these forms or focuses on a different detail.”
