Undecember by Gentle Monster

January 17, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in Advertising, Digital Art, Motioncollector, 2019

Gentle Monster eyewear released an epic promo campaign by imagining Earth lost its sense of anxiety or hope, leaving the human race to resort to its most basic instincts of survival.

GENTLE MONSTER 2019 Eyewear Collection '13' Campaign The Advent of 13 Month Ep. 01 Under chaotic change, people who believe in the power and strength of collective groups, climb together on what is the only way of transportation in the lost world. Find the full story now on gentlemonster.com.

People believing in the power and strength of collective groups join together on what is the only way of transportation in this lost world. Witness the confident thoughts of self-conscious displayed in “Collective behavior”.

GENTLE MONSTER 13 2019 Eyewear Collection Campaign The Advent of 13 Month Ep. 03 One individual's ego is expanded through media, and virtual reality transforms into a space that is as real as reality, that one can touch and feel. In the new system of '13' we begin to communicate and build relationships in an advanced manner.

Gentle Monster’s ‘13’ Campaign sets place in a world where the moon shifts out of place and axis, slowly floating away from Earth creating the 13th month, Undecember. Animals start to act differently and people develop a dependency on either religion or technology. The changes in climate spark a split between anxiety and hope. Gentle Monster illustrates a message of hope brought from the insight and imagination spawned from the new world.

This is part one of my personal C4D video work . The story happened in Kyoto, 1872. The geisha Kobayashi and Hideyoshi fell in love with each other, and he became her lover. However, due to the war, they were separated from eachother forever. I hope this story will bring people's attention to the cruelty of war, as well as the status of women during those times. Kobayashi - The Story of Geisha

January 14, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in China, Motioncollector, Portfolios, 2019

The story happened in Kyoto, 1872. The geisha Kobayashi and Hideyoshi fell in love with each other, and he became her lover. However, due to the war, they were separated from eachother forever.

This titles video is a prelude to a self-initiated animation short sequence “KIYOMI KOBAYASHI — Sword and fire” created and directed by Yi Le

“It is the art work I want to make after my first trip to Kyoto this year,I was really impressed by the great temples ,garden and people there,I felt very peaceful when I was in Kyoto.Unluckly,I didnt have a chance to watch the performance of geisha at thattime, but I saw a lots of geisha walking on the streets,It’s like time never passed!
In this video,I portraied the 1872’s Kyoto in my thought, The geisha Kobayashi and Hideyoshi fell in love with each other, and he became her lover. However, due to the war, they were separated from eachother forever. I hope this story will bring people’s attention to the cruelty of war, as well as the status of women during those times.”

Finding our identity amongst the barrage of incoming ideas is a difficult thing. Family, religion, nationality, friends, press, politics, socials, what’s right, wrong, acceptable, reprehensible, cool or not, so many things trying to make us think and behave in a certain way. And often at odds with each other, with us left in the middle of it, trying to figure out who WE are. When I spent my month looking inward for my own foundations for the 'One Hundred Billion Sparks' project, the collection of these value systems and ideals was a big part of what I found. It was also clear that they are all much more malleable than we usually assume, with our identities being tailored by us over time, rather than bestowed and unchanging. I wanted to turn all of this into an audio-visual project, so I started with the idea of an identity constrained by the external barrage, but always there underneath, waiting to find its moment to emerge fully, and also with the idea of the intensity of the whole process, which demanded emergent noise. Eugene Pylinsky created a great visual rendering of the idea in parallel, with a digital self bombarded by news, ideals and value judgements in an intense glitching format fitting for the track. It’s been one of my live show highlights because of the intensity Eugene has created visually, and hopefully will make for a nice music video too. - Max Cooper - - - Listen to the new album 'One Hundred Billion Sparks': https://maxcooper.lnk.to/OHBS For a deeper read into the ideas behind the project: https://www.onehundredbillionsparks.net https://maxcooper.net https://www.instagram.com/maxcoopermax - - - Directors thanks, Eugene Pylinsky (Pylik): "I've been following Max and his collaborations with artists for a long time and I was hoping to work with him someday, and here we are. I got a clear reference from Max to some of my videos on Instagram. We understood each other without tons of words, so my workflow was clearly. The idea of the video is 'Identity'. All of us come under the influence of informational environment around us. It impacts us, shapes us and opens up our personality. We both find and lose ourselves in it. I was trying to find balance between web and live versions of the video. That’s why I decided to generate strong graphics, like barcode and qr code, in my compositions, with characters melting and disappearing in it. I paid much attention to synchronize the music with graphics to deliver intensity, atmosphere. Big thanks to Max Cooper who entrust me to create video for his music track 'Identity', and to my friend Roman Scrypchenko for helping me with direction." https://www.instagram.com/pylik/ https://www.behance.net/pylik https://vimeo.com/pylik

Max Cooper Identity by Eugene Pylinsky

January 03, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Motioncollector, Ukraine, Portfolios, 2019

A rising star - new media artist Eugene Pylinsky made a tribute to one of his digital art idol - Max Cooper whom we have been following for a decade. The further collaboration of two strong parties released a project called “Identity” where Eugene reflected on the informational field that shapes both their personalities and creativity.

“I was trying to find balance between web and live versions of the video. That’s why I decided to generate strong graphics, like barcode and qr code, in my compositions, with characters melting and disappearing in it. I paid much attention to synchronise the music with graphics to deliver intensity, atmosphere.”

Layers is a 4K digital art film directed by Maxim Zhestkov exploring the juxtaposition of the outside and inside. Computer-generated dark and brutal geometric monoliths are dissected by invisible 3D objects to reveal the layers of the colourful and emotionally vibrant inner structures. At the intersections of the shapes we encounter complex structures which could be perceived as 3D representations of objects within a 4D universe. After the previous art films’ foray into the territory of imaginary gallery spaces (Elements and Volumes), Maxim decided to push further and explore the possibilities of impossible sculptures as the main character for this project. Layers is the fourth film in the series which Maxim launched in 2017. Maxim has committed to producing one film each season for the rest of his life along with commercial projects in his studio - Zhestkov.Studio - to express his thoughts, ideas and vision and to explore new boundaries of digital art. https://zhestkov.studio https://www.behance.net/gallery/73280419/Layers-Art-film

This spring in the Stockholm City Hall we presented the audiovisual performance "Cognition" developed by our studio in collaboration with the composer and pianist Nikola Melnikov, specially for the brand Asko. The installation of "Cognition" is an expression of striving for the perfect shape. Everything can be perfect–whether it is a geometric figure or a person. The experience of perfection exists where people open themselves in external icons. We thank Asko Appliances AB for their trust and support in the implementation of the project. LA Philharmonic's Anniversary projection by Refik Anadol

Walt Disney Concert Hall
October 02, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, USA, Motioncollector, 2018

From September 28 through October 6 vibrant three-dimensional projections on the facade of Walt Disney Concert Hall are launched by artist Refik Anadol and his team (baked by Google Arts&Culture) to celebrate the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 100th anniversary.

This public art installation projects transformed archival materials onto the exterior of Walt Disney Concert Hall in animated, data-driven patterns, seeming to give consciousness to the architectural landmark. The result is a radical visualization of the organization’s first century. The images are abstract representations of more than 45 terabytes of information from the L.A. Phil’s archives, including photos, videos, audio recordings, posters, and more.

The files were parsed into millions of data points that were then categorized by hundreds of attributes, by deep neural networks with the capacity to both remember the totality of the LA Phil’s “memories” and create new connections between them. The show is accompanied by the soundtrack that was created from the LA Phil’s archival recordings. Sound designers augmented these selections by using machine-learning algorithms to find similar performances recorded throughout the LA Phil’s history.

Minimalist design, scenographic sculptures and constantly changing typography circulate around the song mayfly. For Alice Rose & Moniko‘s record label and music video debut designer and scenographer Lenny Grade and Catrin Mackowski used the song’s lyrics of a fragile ending love and it’s spiritual hope of rebirth to translate it into scenes of delicate balance, objects that transform, circulate or flow and a lead singer that is arranged in a state of absence while being present. Building up on this concept the single’s artwork is the illustrative approach of creating a fragile circulation showing a disabled mayfly on the front and four of them on the back. Spinning around and creating a circle with their missing wing. Maxim Zhestkov - Optics

September 04, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Motioncollector, Portfolios, Russia, 2018

Talented Russian media artist Maxim Zhestkov released his long-waited film "Optics". It's an experimental art film exploring the behavior of artificial light and color in digital environments. Blending architectural gallery space with computer-generated digital glass sculptures, we encounter animated refractions, chromatic aberrations, colourful reflection and other conditions which are impossible in reality. A series of tests and explorations guides us through different optical conditions of the bright and colorful digital universe.

The film was initiated as an experimental series of tests in Zhestkov.Studio. After some research, the studio realized that the beauty and visual power of these explorations could be transformed into an art film rather than remain a series of tests. For a couple of months, programmers and artists at Zhestkov.Studio developed different approaches and played with the infinite visual possibilities opened up by refractions and reflections with sound design by Marcelo Baldin.

“We developed over 1000 tools and principles of working with light and refractive/reflective surfaces. Coders wrote dozens of lines in Python to achieve some of the effects and behaviours of light. In the end, we produced some truly amazing results. Light and refraction, in reality, can behave only in one way in one condition, but in the digital world, where we don’t have real-world restrictions, we can animate every condition and step further into the understanding of light and colour”

It's been exactly 5 years since I created experimental video «Pacific Light»(2013) vimeo.com/71035290, where I first mixed oil, water and ink together in a bright dance of colors. Since then, I’ve developed my style by experimenting with graphics and adding new ingredients. I used metallic paints in the projects "O D Y S S E Y"(2015) vimeo.com/127468772 and "Sweet Dreams"(2016) vimeo.com/165289627, and worked with neon colors in "NEON 4K"(2016 ) vimeo.com/186240055. This project presents selected 4K HDR 60fps footage that I created during the year. Specially for this project, Dmitry Evgrafov composed a lovely piece of music.
