Francisco Ratti

May 12, 2025 by Arseny Vesnin in 2025, Art, Argentina, Digital Art, Portfolios
“My artistic practice develops around the different possible ways of creating images, dialoguing with tradition and art history from a current perspective. I am interested in constructing an image permeable to the present and reality that establishes an explicit dialogue with the digital image. I address traditional painting about new media and ways of looking at and translating reality. A question underlies this work:
How do we look at a painting, and how do we look at a screen?”
— Francisco Ratti

Francisco Ratti grew up amidst Patagonia's dry winds and vast open spaces, where he first discovered his connection to painting. He later earned his Bachelor's degree and now teaches painting as a professor of visual arts at the Faculty of Arts, National University of La Plata. Based in La Plata, where he lives and works, Ratti's artistic practice explores the concept of surfaces, opening up thoughtful dialogues between the digital and analogue realms.

Ratti paints from a place of contradiction and doubt, where every colour, form, and gesture interrogates itself. For him, uncertainty is not a weakness but a generative force—an insistence that gradually sharpens into clarity. His work emerges from internal battles, where buried images resurface, dissolve, and reconfigure. Ratti sees disorientation as essential; getting lost becomes a pathway to recognition.

In the suspended space between dawn and dusk, his painting becomes both wound and river — a site of confrontation, transformation, and fleeting wholeness.

Take over Jeddah

In Andres Reisinger's Take Over Jeddah, an ethereal embrace encircles an age-old edifice, ingeniously interacting with its context without making direct contact. This intentional approach provokes a dialogue on the essence and worth of architectural relics, especially those overlooked yet embodying the city’s historical and social narratives. It invites spectators to reflect on the importance of cultural heritage, urging a deeper appreciation that transcends physical form.

VXN

April 03, 2023 by Arseny Vesnin in 2023, Digital Art, Graphic Design, Glitch, NFT Art, Argentina, Portfolios

Buenos Aires-based Victoria Campobello, is known by her artistic moniker VXN. Her artistic style fuses 3D software and sculpture to deconstruct and transform bodies and environments. Through a blend of techniques, themes, and visual languages, she crafts intricate compositions that straddle the line between figurative and abstract, merging seemingly disparate aesthetics.

VXN's work envisions the interplay between nature, organic growth, sexuality, and cyberspace, capturing the digital age's disconnection between mind and body. She leads a collective of Latin American creatives at @CryptoArg_, focusing on digital art, physical exhibitions, and metaverse events in the NFT space. They aim to encourage a slower, more contemplative approach to art consumption and bring a conceptual mindset to the crypto-verse.

As a freelance 3D designer, VXN collaborates with clients in the fashion, music, and advertising industries. She is committed to challenging the limits of digital artistry and experimenting with various mixed-reality tools.

Carpoolers by Alejandro Cartagena

August 30, 2021 by Arseny Vesnin in 2021, NFT Art, Photography, Portfolios, USA
@alexcartagenamex

Carpoolers is an acclaimed documentary photo series and self-published project from Mexican photographer Alejandro Cartagena started in 2011. Concerned with the neoliberal policymaking in the city of Monterrey and rapid housing expansions on the outskirts of the city, Cartagena critically documents the fissures between blue-collar urban centres and the lack of infrastructure connecting the suburban overgrowth.

View fullsize CARPOOLERS__03.jpg
View fullsize CARPOOLERS__06.jpg
“The collection of The 50 Carpoolers depicts laborers in México captured from an overpass, commuting between distant suburbs and urban centers. Like much of my work, this project comes from a desire to tell the story of the dramatic environmental, economic, and demographic changes playing out in my home city of Monterrey. This series has circulated the internet since 2011 and has been exhibited widely around the world”
— Alejandro Cartagena

View fullsize CARPOOLERS__10.jpg

“From the vantage point of a highway overpass, the photographer has vividly and repetitiously documented the contract workers and tradesmen who hitch rides in the back of the trucks that will take them to that day’s worksite. As many as eleven labourers are seen at a time in open beds scattered with equipment and commercial goods; many sleep side-by-side, perhaps as strangers to each other. Provoking in its apparent ubiquitousness, this fiercely conceptual series raises concerns regarding the failure of urbanism and neoliberalism in Mexico; its ecological ramifications; and social and economic stratification—within the confines of the image itself even the driver and owner of the vehicle, concealed in the cabin and unseen to us, holds a superior status to the labourers who are exposed to the elements.“

carpoolers.jpeg
“The way the worker is lying on the bed of the truck with the old wood really gives the sense of the invisibility of the people that build our cities. Having worked in the service industry for years myself...in hotels and restaurants, traveling for hours in buses, that invisibility was latent and a burden that is not to be taken lightly. It was also a space to build an idea of the life I wanted. 10 years, traveling 3-4hrs a day back then, has made me very thankful of my life today”

Cuban artist Darian Mederos transforms his passion for the human figures and the study of Masters like Rembrandt, Caravaggio, and Diego Velazquez, that brought him to explore the ubiquitous human features.

Looking through something is one of the many obsessions  that every artist has; Using an obstacle makes the vision more intriguing and less obvious: that's why Mederos has created a series of works that use bubble wrap over his subjects to obscure their form and features.

Ricardo Gonzalez Lettering

August 10, 2020 by Arseny Vesnin in 2020, USA, Street Art, Lettering, Mexico

IT’S A LIVING is not just a statement but it is also a life philosophy for Ricardo Gonzalez, a designer, and artist from Durango México currently living in Brooklyn. His signature script style can be easily recognised from large scale murals to commercial work for some of the biggest brands to a simple sticker in the streets.

The ambiguity in the typographical messages continually creates a dialog between the viewer and the artwork. “A word is an image” and an image can be interpreted in so many ways, the direct approach of typography has been an exploring path where the main goal is to question our daily living and to produce a positive impact. After all, it’s a living.

“My pieces are about desire, opulence, ostentation and luxury. I apply the concept of the “hedonic treadmill” (the tendency of humans to return to a relatively stable level of happiness despite increases in wealth or the achievement of major goals) and the straight-forward myth of King Midas and his Golden Touch. Social ascent, the “American Dream”, economic inequality, endless irresponsible consumption and the effects of capitalism are also recurring themes.” text from MTArt Agency

Claudia Fontes ceramics "Fungus" sculptures

December 13, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Art, Argentina, Portfolios, Sculpture, United Kingdom

Claudia Fontes is an Argentinean visual artist based in England who explores through her actions, objects and research the poetic space and alternative modes of perception of culture, nature, history and society that emerge from processes of decolonization, be they personal, interpersonal, or social. She is well-known for her work “The Horse Problem” - top art installation at Venice Biennial in 2017. Her recent ceramic sculptures are gripping each other tight as they are transformed into fungus like growths and spores in an eerie but romantic series.
