Russian Empire in colour photos

You might seen the unique set of pioneer colour photos taken by Russian photographer Prokudin-Gorskii a century ago. Here is a new portion presented on BBC.

"This vivid colour photograph is 100 years old, a self-portrait by the Russian aristocrat Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii, using a unique photographic technique he developed himself. Prokudin-Gorskii studied chemistry under Mendeleev, the inventor of the periodic table, before travelling to Berlin to study photochemistry.'

BBC UK

Prokudin-Gorskii took thousands of pictures between 1909-1912 as he toured the Russian empire, armed with a special pass from Tsar Nicholas II. He created a panorama of all the peoples, landscapes, industries and antiquities under Russian possession.

Grand model of Russia

"Grand Maket" is a scale model (1:87) of Russia covering the country on 200 square meters of permanent interactive (yes, trains are moving and so on) exhibition in Saint-Petersburg. This is a perfect place for kids and parents to spend a day discovering hidden and unusual parts of Russia scaled down and gently spiced with a humor in details. Check their official website. Many thanks to StPete based fashion photographer Daria Markova for materials

Longway North

"Sasha, a young Russian artistocratic girl at the end of the 19th century, dreams of the Great North and languishes over Oloukine, her grandfather, a renowned scientist and Arctic explorer, who has not returned from his last expedition to conquer the North Pole. He transmitted his vocation to Sasha which is far from satisfying her parents as they have already arranged for their daughter to marry. She revolts against this destiny, flees and is resolved to going to join Oloukine a longway north." Directed by Sacrebleu Productions

Barry X Ball sculpture

Barry X Ball is one hell of a sculptor who uses various types of marble and steel to create his works. Mr. Ball (if I may call him that) is currently based out of New York, USA, but originally hails from sunny Pasadena, California. His series, entitled “Masterpieces”, consist of recreated sculptural works after classic pieces of the Great Masters, such as Antonio Corradini, Josse de Corte, and the timeless Hermaphrodite Endormi (Ermafrodito Borghese) piece.
