Making of Thomas Heatherwick’s London 2012 Olympic cauldron

I am so happy that a friend of mine talented spatial designer Anna Neklesa is visiting a lecture of multi-talented British designer Thomas Heatherwick in London today. We faced the work of Thomas once when spoke about new Routmaster Bus. This time we will take a look at his latest contribution to the Olympic that shifted the image of the Olympic Fire - London 2012 Cauldron.

I can refer you to read more about the making of cauldron on Dezeen but please watch the film before this.

The Instant Lab

With the love to Instaprint project hence it went unsuccessful on Kickstater we look with a hope on another initiative. It is "The Instant Lab" from The Impossible Project (the guys behind Polaroid and its film resurrection), the mix of instant photography of two decades - analogue and digital or Polaroid Camera and iPhone. Watch it and join on Kickstarter!

The Invisible Bicycle Helmet

We have been following this product since last year from its concept to a real Invisible Bicycle Helmet called "Hödving". Designed by Terese Alstin and Anna Haupt it makes a big steps now on a real market. It's ergonomic, it's practical, it complies with all the safety requirements, and it's also subtle and blends in with what else you are wearing. Worth to mention Invisible Helmet is made for people who prefers good looking to personal safety (yes, you) and especially when riding a bike (have you ever saw a fixed-bike lover with that bulky still safety helmet from a nearby store? No).

Hard Graft

This is a rare type of post when we feature craftsmen but Hard Graft wins a full attention. The masters of premium italian leather and wool felt knows how to keep all you gadgets and other urban nomad things all together with a modern twist.

Hard Graft is a perfectionist duo - monie.ka and James based in London, UK. They do design and produce sleek objects of desire in Italian workshop called "The Brothers". Stitch to stitch, button to button their products are a real aesthetic heritage available for purchase and delivery right now (pity they don't deliver with DHL or UPS to Russia, and that is a real torment for us).

Instaglasses

After Instagram Camera concept that we actually did not like for it's form lose function here goes a smart concept of Instagram Glasses from Markus Gerke.Instaglasses is a smart way to live "la vie en rose" or just "en Instagram". You activate the glasses by pushing “Insta” and option to choose between different filters. Then take a picture with your glasses and upload the image straight to Instagram. Voila!

Also worth to mention a concept made by Mauricio Thomsen for Ray-Ban Instagram (Ray-Ban has so many concepts floating around and still doing glasswork as it is still the 90ss of 20 century, shame on them).

Google Project Glass

Project Glass is a new technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment. Now you information will be not only shared through desktops and mobile but directly from the human environment by using special spectacles. Project Glass is a concept of something like a Visual Apple Siri hence Siri is already working on fields, Google is just playing with huge data and information they own through Google Plus social network. But personally we like how Google made up this concept, check the video and enjoy the future (hopefully it is near) g.co/projectglass

White & White clocks by Vadim Kibardin

Vadim Kibardin is very close with production of his wall mounted LED version of digital alarm clocks "White&White" he designed in early 2009. The project was upgraded from Black&White version to White&White and simplified to a unibody (it had detachable items in his first version). Now available for pre-order from KibardinDesign website.

Polaboy frames

I got in to the Polaroid culture when I was ten with a proud colour one "Assembled in the USSR". This was a high times, today Swissmiss made a huge flashback and now I really want to install Polaboy frame featuring some of the photos from my past. Smart and simple idea and citing Swissmiss: "Polaboys are enlarged Polaroids to a scale of 10:1 (to 88x107cm) and backlit. They are 20 mm thick and use energy-saving LED area lights. The frame is wooden and they are made in Germany. Also good to know: The photographs can be changed at any time and you can even send your custom image."
