A prove of "What does not kill us makes us stronger" saying: Russian extreme photographer with metal balls - Vadim Mahorov. He "goes to death-defying heights for the perfect shot. While the thrill of scaling buildings, towers and monuments is part of the allure, the dramatic aerial landscapes Vadim captures are absolutely breathtaking." http://dedmaxopka.livejournal.com
You might seen the unique set of pioneer colour photos taken by Russian photographer Prokudin-Gorskii a century ago. Here is a new portion presented on BBC.

"This vivid colour photograph is 100 years old, a self-portrait by the Russian aristocrat Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii, using a unique photographic technique he developed himself. Prokudin-Gorskii studied chemistry under Mendeleev, the inventor of the periodic table, before travelling to Berlin to study photochemistry.'

Prokudin-Gorskii took thousands of pictures between 1909-1912 as he toured the Russian empire, armed with a special pass from Tsar Nicholas II. He created a panorama of all the peoples, landscapes, industries and antiquities under Russian possession.
"Grand Maket" is a scale model (1:87) of Russia covering the country on 200 square meters of permanent interactive (yes, trains are moving and so on) exhibition in Saint-Petersburg. This is a perfect place for kids and parents to spend a day discovering hidden and unusual parts of Russia scaled down and gently spiced with a humor in details. Check their official website. Many thanks to StPete based fashion photographer Daria Markova for materials

Young Russian sculptor Alexey Morosov held a solo exhibition in Russian Museum in Saint-Petersburg titled "Antologia" that included 48 of his works.
"The heroes that are marked by inspired beauty and imposing harmony seem to be protecting themselves from the threat of invisible aggressive force in the most part of presented works. The high skill of execution, natural combination of tradition and innovation, canonical and spontaneous helps Aleksey Morozov to discover the new possibilities of plastic language of the Antique Art and to emphasize the eternal significance of its humanistic ideals." was stated in museum's press release.
Morozov believes that European civilization must more often refer to the past, and revisit its positions towards allegory, myth and historical scenes in order to discover a new meaning. The art of Alexey Morozov proves that classical forms have not died, and that traditions andinnovations may well coexist.

Interaction design students from Moscow based British Higher School of Art and Design strikes again in a tutor's challenge inspired by the upcoming OFFF 2012 festival. The brief is "Take OFFF".
"We decide to risk and make an ambitious project - the Offf titles. But the following titles do not include credits of artists from the festival. They serve as a reminder of designers who are no longer with us, but each of whom has left their influence in different design fields. artistry designed long go, we think, forms the base for the design of today and weaves the a thread through tomorrow. The main character of our video-story is a spinner, ancient Slavic goddess Makoš who rules over destiny of gods and men. Connected with fertility, reproduction and weaving, she equals to the Greek goddesses of fate Moirai, who spun the thread of life; and Norse Norns. This archetype can be found in the epos of every culture. She spins her own hair. As hair is the symbol of life, of strength, of sexual and creative energy. The symbol belongs to the goddess of fertility, who also represents Mother Earth that inspired cultural and agricultural ethics."

"A street artist makes derelict structures come alive by adding eyes and facial features. Nikita Nomerz's work ranges from water towers painted to look like they're laughing to dilapidated buildings with broken window frames for eyes. Nomerz, from the western Russian city of Nizhniy Novgorod, travels around various cities in his homeland to carry out his art." Daily Telegraph

Their tutor Dmitry Karpov released a brief "Take OFFF" Brief. The task was to create a visually reach short for OFFF 2012 event. We think about old alchemy culture, about making participation and interaction feel post-digital; making the tech less techy. We see this approach is reflected back in the freshest creative and cultural work of the near future.
