Lux Notis II by Reuben Wu

March 07, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Photography, Portfolios, USA, 2018

This ongoing project entitled Lux Noctis II (view Lux Noctis I) by Chicago-based photographer Reuben Wu "depicts landscapes within the framework of traditional landscape photography but influenced by ideas of planetary exploration, 19th-century sublime romantic painting, and science fiction." Wu imagined these scenes as the familiar transformed into undiscovered landscapes to renew perceptions of our world.

“Each image is a carefully-planned scene consisting of multiple lighting positions, layered to produce a theatrically-lit composition. Using the GPS-enabled aerial light/drone in specific positions in space, I am able to create moods of drama and tension through chiaroscuro, and the ability to illuminate isolated features of a scene and exclude unwanted elements.”

FILIP CUSTIC is a Spanish-Croatian multidisciplinary artist who uses objects as his means of communication. He’s creating his own “vocabulary of objects” through a movement he is developing that he has decided to call “objetismo”. In order to express himself he uses a camera to take photos and videos, but he also plays around with audios. Filip creates installations with models, clothing and different kinds of objects that inspire him, using them as sculptures to communicate an idea, concept or message. He likes to play with concepts such as no-gravity, fragmentation, patafísica, balance optic effect and technic art.

"The word ‘Aaru’ comes from Egyptian mythology and represents an eternal paradise, a lush oasis for eternity. Food 2030 by SNASK

January 19, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Advertising, Agencies, Graphic Design, Photography, Portfolios, Sweden, 2018

Sweden food retailer Axfood approached SNASK studio to create their new campaign "Food2030" - an initiative that urge a joint effort between consumers, business and politicians to work together to ensure sustainability.

"We started out by creating the identity with the hashtag as the initiative logo and colors and typography. After that we used groceries from the different categories of Ecological, Swedish, Vegetarian and Frozen and created headlines to be used in the campaign as well as printed material. The end result was very appreciated and the initiative is still as important and current as ever. We still need to change our behavior   for a sustainable future."

Casa Vicens by Antoni Gaudí

Casa Vicens
January 09, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, Photography, Spain, 2018

Last time I visited OFFF festival I took an hour to find the earlier gem in Gaudi's architectural masterpieces - a summer home for real-estate broker Manel Vicens i Montaner. Heavily influenced by "Mudejar" style. Hence it was still under renovation, and I am happy to find out now that it is opened to public in 2018.

A post shared by Arseny 1981 (@rsny1981) on May 30, 2016 at 3:47am PDT

Casa Vicens marks the first time Gaudí utilized an orientalist style, mixing together Hispano-Arabic inspiration. This was a style of architecture that completely breaks with the norm of the period. Not only does this house mark Gaudí's coming of age, being his first major work of architecture, but it also represents the flowering of Catalan modern architecture.

Memory Lapses by François Ollivier

December 19, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Canada, Portfolios, Photography, Art, 2017

Memory Lapses are temporary installations photographed by François Ollivier when he revisited places linked to strong memories, past or recent. By overexposing reflective material in the process, data becomes absent from the digital file, creating an empty zone in the image that alters reality and distorts our perception: like time and distance do.

Photographer ZAKI Abdelmounim shares his neon view on the capital of the Risin Sun - Tokyo. During his 8-months journey, he was experimenting with various colour grading techniques that shifted from cyberpunk to vaporwave. We let author speak for himself below

"Tokyo's overwhelming visual presence is an all-out assault on your senses offering a strong immersive cyberpunk experience. A lot to process and too much to take in from the flashing neon lights, the sounds of the busy streets and train stations, and the commercial signs of every building It's downright surreal and truly catches the spirit of what a cyberpunk city would look like. Easily getting lost offers an unmatched thrill and sense of discovery, but a certain follower emerges at night will keep your company during your stroll in the rain."

"It's the "Talking Lights" in the labyrinth of alleys. The dimly-lit neon signs of hiragana and katakana trying to communicate with the fast-paced walkers bring a nostalgic air, and it's a beautiful sight to behold."

Erik Östensson Photography

November 30, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Photography, Portfolios, Sweden, 2017

"In his recent series ‘The Circle and the Line’, Stockholm-based photographer Erik Östensson presents his viewer with subtle complexities in the setting of every day life. His poetic, performative images capture emotive interactions between people, objects and the landscape. In each image, all elements are somewhat intertwined and exist in harmony with one another, forming new relationships in materiality and form."

“When looking at our surroundings, we fill it with our own notions. Without these simplifications, we would not be able to operate within the world’s complexity. I want to create images where the viewer can see it all again. I do this by depicting objects from a new angle and by putting them in a new context. Past notions are replaced and the meanings of familiar objects expand”
