Magnus app: "shazam" for the art world

May 10, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Germany, Mobile Applications, 2016, Art

Brand new app, Magnus, (that works in NYC only now) is being toted as the Shazam of the art world.  Simple and to-the-point, the Magnus user only needs to point their smartphone at an artwork seen in a gallery, and instantly a plethora of information becomes available on their device. Title, artist name, medium, and dimensions are listed, allowing even uninitiated art viewer to understand to basic components of the work. Perhaps most importantly, Magnus also shows the latest market price of the work, whether this is the figure fetched at auction or if it is the gallery’s current asking price for the work.

The brain behind Magnus is 31-year-old German art entrepreneur Magnus Resch, best known for co-founding Larry’s List, a database of contemporary art collectors, and for his brutally honest literary exposé on gallery inefficiency, Management of Galleries.

By The Way – typography and material behavior

March 17, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Germany, Motioncollector, Portfolios, Typography, 2016

By the use of various media, the master thesis of Thomas Wirtz describes a free design experiment that has evolved over time into a modular system consisting of two components: The self-made font, produced by 3D printing, which is thereby associated with a variety of physical processes.

A Million Changing Views by SENSUCHT

January 19, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Advertising, Agencies, Germany, Motioncollector, 2016

Berlin-based award-winning glasses company MYKITA took their boundary-breaking ethos to a whole new level with their parametrically-designed MY VERY OWN collection.

A collaboration with Swedish 3D-body-modeling company Volumental, the MVO label’s custom frames are made using 3D scans and algorithms that calculate a design that adapts perfectly to your face. To match this new level of bespoke-magic eyewear, Sensucht worked alongside director Stephan Wever to create a piece of visual “Slow Food“—the distilled essence in images of sensual, custom-made quality.

Digitizes Fabrics GEIST.XYZ by Zeitguised

January 10, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Fashion, Germany, Motioncollector, Portfolios, TOP 2016, 2016

Citing The Creators Project: Created by design and animation studio Zeitguised, it features algorithmic design in the style of fashion textiles. "We have a background in sculpture and fashion design, and wanted to make this design project for years. We felt that algorithmic design is underrepresented in fashion still, due to approaches that are either too nerdy or executions that don't work,” says Henrik Mauler of Zeitguised. "We wanted to change that, and bring more design thinking to making patterns with algorithms.” In combining digital art with fashion and textiles, geist.xyz exists in the realm of the hyperrealistic-unreal, and imagines a future in which the very clothes on our backs could be a digital canvas. "We also want to see these patterns being worn, and wear them ourselves—even if self-transforming textiles don't exist yet to the extent that we show,” says Mauler. "We just simply didn't want to wait for it."

November 30, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Germany, Motioncollector, Portfolios, Glitch, 2015

After reading an awesome study on digital art done by Charmaine Li for iGNANT we revisited some artist mentioned in the article. Here is Andreas Nicolas Fischer, we mentioned few years ago. A Berlin-based artist working with generative systems, physical representations of data as well as visualizations of digital processes. Apart his famous "Schwarm I" generative art complex from 2012, he was in to a lot of new digital experiments exhibited worldwide recently that are worth to explore on his personal website now
