The Squash at Tate by Anthea Hamilton/Jonathan Anderson

Tate Britain
March 29, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Sculpture, United Kingdom, Fashion, 2018

LOEWE collaborates with artist Anthea Hamilton on the Tate Britain Commission 2018: The Squash.

The Squash is an immersive installation combining performance and sculpture by 2016 Turner Prize nominee Anthea Hamilton. The artist has designed seven costumes in collaboration with LOEWE Creative Director Jonathan Anderson to be worn by the performers. The Squash has been created for the annual Tate Britain Commission, which invites contemporary British artists to create new artwork in response to the grand space of the Duveen Galleries.

“It’s kind of surreal to see it, especially when you come in here with the Pre-Raphaelites. I saw this show that Anthea did with Hepworth, which was about reassembling Kettle’s Yard’s collection and re-contextualising it. You know, when you see all of this together, it can kind of become a bit… heavy.”

Beyond the Limits by teamLab

March 28, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Japan, France, Motioncollector, 2018, Art

The Japanese design firm teamLab has announced a 2,000 square meter exhibition at La Villette, Paris. It plans on forming a vast space allowing visitors to interact with a digital world through their own bodies. Named “”Au-Delà des Limites” or “Beyond the Limits,” the showcase blurs the lines of reality and creates multiple installations representing different realms. Visitors will be able to walk through virtual waterfalls and natural wonders.

The presentation will be available from May 4 to September 4, launching right before Japonismes 2018, a cultural event marking the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and France.

teamLab (f. 2001, Tokyo, by Toshiyuki Inoko) is an interdisciplinary group of ultra-technologists whose collaborative practice seeks to navigate the confluence of art, technology, design and the natural world. Rooted in the tradition of ancient Japanese Art and contemporary forms of anime, teamLab operates from a distinctly Japanese sense of spatial recognition, investigating human behavior in the information era and proposing innovative models for societal development

Provocative Collages by Émir Shiro

March 28, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in 2018, Graphic Design
“This technique of “hide / unveil” is really ideal for me to talk about nudity, sexuality and the body with poetry by ignoring the censorship imposed on social networks. Today, when I build an image, it’s a bit like having to take a challenge! By this I mean that this censorship that Instagram is enforcing is, for me, a kind of wall to brake”

Studio BLUP for Adidas Winter Olympics Team GB

March 27, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Advertising, Agencies, Branding, Graphic Design, United Kingdom, 2018, Glitch

London-based Studio BLUP has recently updated their nobles folio with a commission done for Adidas online campaign aimed to promote Team GB at Winter Olympics

The Brief
To create the social marketing material for Adidas's officia Winter Olympics Kit launch.

The BLUP way
There aren't many household names who represent GB in the Winter Olympics so there were no sports celebs to base the kit launch around. Thinking The Blup Way we decided to focus on the kit with no model at all giving each piece its own identity through a series of still and motion graphics. The soundtrack we added aims to act like an 'epic' movie trailer in order to create a dark, icy impact.

“Every now and again a job comes along that makes you remember why you love making films so much. Boys & Girls asked me to travel to the heart of Mexico to make a film for Jose Cuervo in the town of Tequila. Our mission, to capture the spirit of Jose Cuervo, the town and its people. This is the result and it became more than just a film for me, it was a trip I will always remember and a group of people I’ll never forget. Everybody mucked in to make this as special as it really was.”

Synth Pop Objects by Katia Lyubavskaya

March 26, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Instagram, Portfolios, Sculpture, Art, 2018

Moscow-based artist Katia Lyubavskaya shares her ongoing synth pop project on Ello with the following statement

Bubble gum
matte glass ball • synthetic hair, 600 x 200 mm

“The world of post-truth is not just a simulative copy of the real world, but a hyper-saturated version that seeks to surpass it.
This is about media and politics, where the facts have lost power and turned reality into fake, which is accepted as true. Let us imagine that the perception of the objective world exists by the same rules. While alteration of elements and scales is a lie, the image remains recognizable and gives a delusive sense of truth - the victory of emotions over facts. The reality here is physically distorted, almost surreal, filled with anxiety and frustration.
Synthetic hair - a material, that unites all objects, symbolizes the femininity, its strength and magic. The same way as the power of words is used to distort facts in media, I use the power of hair, archetype, lying deep in the subconscious, to manipulate the perception. This literally soft, anti-monumental material revives objects so you want to touch them. In the era of cyberspace subject of tangibility is more relevant than ever.”

OFFF Milano 2018 Main Titles

March 22, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in OFFF, Motioncollector, Italy, China, 2018

“ The starting idea is from real life experience that I had several travels to my father’s hometown where is the rural area of China, and the visual of electric Tower and woods hiding in the mist struck me. Also, I was living in a city where construction is going very frequently, which influenced my mood a lot. As a result, I’d like to make a film which the storyline goes from misty woods to industrialized city where construction is heavy. I looked into lots of materials in which have a giant as the main character and find several films and concept art, like Simon Stalenhag, Jakub Rozalski and EVA in which I learned a lot from their shot composition, and also give me a clear vision that the giant should be in a thin and incomplete body shape. While making the title sequence, I encountered the Netflix new TV series called “Dark”, I learned a lot about its color set also its soundtrack inspired the sound designer as well. This work is a huge combination of inspiration, but it starts with a real-life experience. The original color set is black and white, but I decided to use more natural color and make the sequence more like an old century film.”

The fine folks at 72andSunny came to Munkowitz (GMUNK) late in 2017 with a bold idea – they wanted to explore the relationship between Humans and technology and explore the notion that together, this union is more powerful than ever. They wanted Munko to create a series of films that spotlight the all-new INFINITI QX50 through the relentless cycle of man pushing machine—and machine pushing man.

"The main idea of the project is to esthetize kinesiotherapy and to popularize the possibilities and techniques of applying this method through a series of advertising posters.
The concept of the tape project is to show the relationship between functionality and aesthetics.
Each kinesiology method has its own dynamics, plasticity and graphics. Therefore, visual images divided into directions to represent a certain method of taping, functionally confirmed. In addition to distribution by methods of taping, images are built on the difference of colors and lines contrasts."

Reality to Idea by Joshua Vides

Artist Joshua Vides making real-life objects appear as simple, black and white sketches. His ongoing experiments in Op Art went crazy when you see Air Jordan 1s, basketball hoops, street signs embellished in white paint with black sharpie lines drawn by hand. For Joshua’s next illusion, he took over The Seventh Letter Gallery in Los Angeles, California last week to present his new exhibit titled “Reality to Idea.”
