"Wurf" ("Throw") by Anna Borgman and Candy Lenk

November 20, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Denmark, Germany, Portfolios, 2017

Danish-German artist duo Anna Borgman and Candy Lenk created a series of installations exploring “the relationship between sculpture and place”.

"Titled ‘Wurf’ (‘Throw’), the large-scale installation features a piece made of paper maché and wood that mimics a heavy stone. Displayed in a courtyard in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, ‘Wurf I’ is installed in a delicate green glasshouse. ‘Wurf II’ features the stone imitation hanging from the roof of a monastery church near Leipzig."

The Six Walls house near Stockholm

November 17, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, Sweden, Photography, 2017

Located in the woods near Stockholm, ‘The Six Walls’ house is a light-filled weekend home designed by architecture practice Arrhov Frick Arkitektkontor. The concrete building features a sleek rectangular design with walls that are more than five meters high. The same simplicity-guided approach goes for the interior, with a narrow entrance opening up to expansive living areas including a roof terrace overlooking the area’s pine trees.

Colour Theory by Connor Singh

November 16, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Photography, Portfolios, USA, 2017

Colour Theory is a bold and sensual photographic project released by photographer Connor Singh that explores the beauty of the body. The luminescent light follows the curves of the body to form an ensemble that is both electric and almost erotic.

House 1014 by HARQUITECTES

November 15, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, Spain, Agencies, 2017

Barcelona-based firm H ARQUITECTES built a home in Catalonia with two courtyards and a central garden. House 1014 features a remarkable red brick, that spans the gap between two crumbling facades on a street in Granollers, Barcelona. Two brick patios bracket the family home, offering a transition area from street accesses on either side of the block, while a further garden splits the space into two distinct halves – one serves for more private domestic activities, and another for one for entertainment.

View fullsize harquitectes1.jpg

To create a pedestrian entrance from a street, an original stone facade with ornamental window was preserved to create a pedestrian entrance from a street. "The sequence of spaces creates some kind of ambiguity about what is an interior or exterior space," said the architects.

Liquid Gold Sculptures by Vanderlei Lopes

November 14, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Brazil, Sculpture, Portfolios, 2017

"In this ongoing body of sculptural works, Brazillian artist Vanderlei Lopes creates temporary interventions where his polished brass objects appear to pour and drain like gold from the walls or floors of galleries. Much of Lopes’ work plays with aspects of transformation, be it through the tension of liquid and solid forms seen here, by subtraction, or experimenting with orientation. You can see much more of his work on Artsy and Athena Contemporânea"

Asad Raza for Converso

November 13, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Italy, 2017

For Untitled (plot for dialogue), Asad Raza continues his exploration of inhabiting space with social practices, human and non-human beings, and objects. Raza responds to the architecture of the 16th-century church by introducing flooring, lines, netting, racquets, iced jasmine tea, and coaches for a tennis-like game. He repurposes the church, a place of messages from higher authorities, into a space of two-way exchange and recreation. Raza’s involvement in tennis is longstanding; he is an avid player and has written extensively on the subject. Here he reorients the sport as a reflection on the importance of non-productive activities in a society focused on work. For Raza, the game serves as a method of absorbing energetic drives into symbolic but non-harmful practices.

Visitors to Untitled (plot for dialogue)  become more than spectators—practicing with the coaches, they inhabit their bodies in coordinated action. Players respond to each other through the medium of the ball and the plot of the court. The piece places the experience of play above purely visual appreciation, as the back-and-forth of tennis exchanges produces meditative beauty through actions never to be repeated.

Advent Calendar 2017 by Mr Bingo

November 13, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Illustration, United Kingdom, Portfolios, 2017

Guy behind "Hate Mail" and "quintessentially English" artist Mr Bingo (he once called us the peniscollector) is back again with his new Advert Calendar for December 2017. Same as last year approach, Mr Bingo called for the internet to crowdfund his new calendar with a simple challenge “NUDES WANTED, would you like to feature in my 2017 advent calendar?"

“Sorting through the applicants was a big job, I spent about 4 days stalking the 260 people online, looking for images of them and made a big spreadsheet of every single person, where they were in the world and a brief description of what they looked like. Then I somehow whittled it down to 25 people, trying to get as many different types of people represented.”

Imago SS18 by Konstantin Kofta

November 10, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Fashion, Portfolios, Ukraine, 2017

We have been following accessories designer Kostantin Kofta since his first release of anthropomorphic and architectonic collections a few years ago. Mainly backpacks, or simply handmade masterpieces, his new collection "Imago SS18" brings the sense of Nature and global awareness. The imago is the last stage an insect attains during its metamorphosis, it is the process of growth and development. Maturity doesn't mean age. It means a level of sensitivity. Nature does not require edging as a point of perfection.

Moodles

November 09, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Motioncollector, Portfolios, USA, 2017

Moodles is a short animation based on the effects of negative emotions on one's self. It turns built up tension, stress, and anxiety into creative catharsis. Frozen figures – once paralyzed by moods – are reduced to heaps of flexible nothingness.

Pippa Young Art

November 09, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, United Kingdom, 2017

"Exuding a Renaissance aura and staring at the distance with haunted eyes, Pippa Young’s characters are born from a jumble of influences, the most notable of all being photographic imagery. The British artist’s characters, often young girls resembling art historical figures, seem displaced in time. Posing against unadorned backdrops and separated from imposed narratives, Young plays on the ambiguity of the figures, leaving us to construct our own stories and interpretations of each one."

Cole’s Cloud Study: The Fuck?

Dafuq? Athenaeum by Shawn Huckins

November 08, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, USA, Portfolios, 2017

Athenaeum series by artist Shawn Huckins explores 18th and 19th century American painting and photography in context of 21st century lexicons - Facebook status updates, tweets, texting acronyms - that permeate today’s popular culture. The process is a methodical replication of the original work, each painted by hand followed by the superimposition of large white letters, also painted, of social media jargon
