The Street Art of Portuguese Azulejos

Illustrator and street artist Diogo Machado transformed this plain looking electrical box on the streets of Lisbon into a surprising illusion by making it look like a cracked exterior is revealing a blue tile interior. The piece is an extension of Fuel’s ongoing Street Ceramic work, where modern interpretations of tile patterns (Portugues Azulejos) are installed onto building facades

PSYOP for Emerald Paint Collection

Moved by color and motion, Psyop and McKinney bring consumers along an epic journey of exploration through bold and beautiful shades from Sherwin Williams’ Emerald Paint Collection. The team looked to fine art for inspiration, drawing from Mark Rothko and Georgia O’Keeffe as inspirations. “What’s important about looking toward these artists in our process is that their art brings to the table another era, another way of thinking about and creating great graphic design,” director Lauren Indovina explains. Thinking differently is just what they did.

NUDE Cafe & Wine Bar Moscow by Form Bureau

"Located in a 1930’s residential building in the very heart of Moscow is Nude Coffee & Wine Bar, a small family establishment that was completed in 2014 by design studio Form Bureau. Taking advantage of the building’s existing materials, the designers decided to partially chip away multiple layers of plaster and paint to reveal the original brick walls, to expose all the beautifully aged textures and colours that were hidden beneath. To complement the graceful decay of the walls, simple and rough materials such as concrete and wood were introduced for the furniture, together with small brass accents and a stark black-and-white pattern on the floor. The dining area is separated from the kitchen by a concrete bar top that is comfortable enough for eating, while a storage area is concealed behind the eye-catching menu display board. Carefully planned lighting design adds spark and lightness to the space, while the illuminated logo over the bar (designed by Denis Sharypin) tops off the strong identity and character of the venue." text via Yatzer

Formento + Formento

We have spotted the photographic works of BJ and Richeille Formento few years ago, and now it is a time to check their new updates. "Photographers BJ and Richeille Formento met exactly a decade ago, while working on a common assignment, and have been partners in both life and work ever since. Together they travel around the world, creating highly inspirational visual series that treat the human persona as prime matter that can be re-shaped through the most unconventional of scenarios. These are usually set in a surreal environment that is saturated in an abundance of contrasting references involving everything from culture and sex to high-fashion and technology." text by Yannis Tzannis via Yatzer

"In contrast to their work, the reason that pushed the photography duo in the direction they followed was anything but surreal. It all started with the recession in 2008 and the subsequent collapse of the American Dream. Simply getting by in New York wasn’t enough for the Formentos and soon life found them travelling across the US in a 27-foot Airstream, in an attempt to capture this newly-found reality through photographing women they would meet along the way. The result of this five-month trip was Circumstance: America Down on Bruised Knees, the duo’s first conceptual series and big breakthrough." continue reading on Yatzer

Mural Portals created by 1010

"Over the last year or so, German street artist 1010 created several of his fantastic spray paint portals in locations around Germany, Panama, and the United States. 1010 brings surprising layers of depth to drab facades and blank gallery walls by painting concentric layers of color. The artist most recently had a solo show at Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco titled Limbus." via Colossal
