Zaha Hadid – The Capital Hill Residence

April 18, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, United Kingdom, 2018

When a residential project in collaboration with Zaha Hadid did not receive approval by the local Moscow legislature, Vladislav Doronin was determined to work with Dame Hadid and subsequently commissioned her to design a residence for him. Over a lunch meeting they discussed the brief, ‘floating above the treetops, overlooking the forest’ and Zaha Hadid sketched her ideas onto a napkin. The result was the Capital Hill Residence, a fluid monument emerging from its surrounding landscape.

FIELD - Hidden Layer

April 10, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Digital Art, Motioncollector, United Kingdom, 2018

In a new experimental short film, FIELD explore how human identity could change as a result of artificial intelligence.

"Hidden Layer looks at the way neural networks augment our identities and change the way we think and behave. With AI increasing its influence on the decisions we make and the information we digest, how will algorithmic structures infiltrate and influence human concepts of self? What happens to AI - augmented humans if the structures they rely on collapse?

Often described in terms of what it can do for us, a neural network is complex, self-evolving and dynamic. It is also capable of decision-making autonomously, without human intervention. As such, artificial intelligence algorithms can be understood both as a way to analyse today’s complex world and as beings distinct from human influence.

The name Hidden Layer comes from a term used in the development of artificial neural networks. The Hidden Layer is neither seen nor understood by humans; it is the part of the network in which the main computation driving the network is done. Hidden Layer is part of FIELD’s broader series of works titled Second Nature, which examines Machine Learning as an entity."

The Squash at Tate by Anthea Hamilton/Jonathan Anderson

Tate Britain
March 29, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Sculpture, United Kingdom, Fashion, 2018

LOEWE collaborates with artist Anthea Hamilton on the Tate Britain Commission 2018: The Squash.

The Squash is an immersive installation combining performance and sculpture by 2016 Turner Prize nominee Anthea Hamilton. The artist has designed seven costumes in collaboration with LOEWE Creative Director Jonathan Anderson to be worn by the performers. The Squash has been created for the annual Tate Britain Commission, which invites contemporary British artists to create new artwork in response to the grand space of the Duveen Galleries.

“It’s kind of surreal to see it, especially when you come in here with the Pre-Raphaelites. I saw this show that Anthea did with Hepworth, which was about reassembling Kettle’s Yard’s collection and re-contextualising it. You know, when you see all of this together, it can kind of become a bit… heavy.”

Studio BLUP for Adidas Winter Olympics Team GB

March 27, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Advertising, Agencies, Branding, Graphic Design, United Kingdom, 2018, Glitch

London-based Studio BLUP has recently updated their nobles folio with a commission done for Adidas online campaign aimed to promote Team GB at Winter Olympics

The Brief
To create the social marketing material for Adidas's officia Winter Olympics Kit launch.

The BLUP way
There aren't many household names who represent GB in the Winter Olympics so there were no sports celebs to base the kit launch around. Thinking The Blup Way we decided to focus on the kit with no model at all giving each piece its own identity through a series of still and motion graphics. The soundtrack we added aims to act like an 'epic' movie trailer in order to create a dark, icy impact.

“Every now and again a job comes along that makes you remember why you love making films so much. Boys & Girls asked me to travel to the heart of Mexico to make a film for Jose Cuervo in the town of Tequila. Our mission, to capture the spirit of Jose Cuervo, the town and its people. This is the result and it became more than just a film for me, it was a trip I will always remember and a group of people I’ll never forget. Everybody mucked in to make this as special as it really was.”

Art of Lorna Simpson

Hauser & Wirth London
March 07, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Sculpture, Portfolios, United Kingdom, 2018

Lorna Simpson’s inaugural exhibition at Hauser & Wirth London, ‘Unanswerable’, features new and recent work across three different media: painting, photographic collage and sculpture. Simpson came to prominence in the 1980s through her pioneering approach to conceptual photography, which featured striking juxtapositions of text and staged images and raised questions about the nature of representation, identity, gender, race and history. These concerns are reflected throughout the exhibition to present the artist’s expanding and increasingly multi-disciplinary practice today

Lorna Simpson: Unanswerable is on view at Hauser & Wirth, London, through April 28.

Chubby Hearts over London by Anya Hindmarch

February 16, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, United Kingdom, Street Art, 2018

Chubby Hearts Over London is a design project conceived by Anya Hindmarch as a love letter to London and supported by the Mayor of London, the British Fashion Council and the City of Westminster.

Starting on Valentine's Day and continuing throughout London Fashion Week, giant chubby heart balloons will be suspended over (and sometimes squashed within) London landmarks as a declaration of love to the city. The balloons will disappear each evening and appear again in a different location the next day.

The Darkest Building on Earth: Hyundai Pavilion covered with Vantablack VBx2

February 10, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, South Korea, United Kingdom, Art, 2018

"London-based architecture practice Asif Khan have unveiled their latest project, a super-black pavilion entirely coated in Vantablack VBx2 at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics 2018 in South Korea. The building’s exterior is illuminated by a field of stars that appear to float in mid-air. Hyundai Motor has commissioned the pavilion as part of a global mobility initiative."

View fullsize Asif-Khan-PyeongChang-Winter-Olympics_003.jpg
View fullsize Asif-Khan-PyeongChang-Winter-Olympics_000.jpg

"The structure’s 10-metre-high parabolic facades are coated with a super black material: Vantablack VBx2, a derivative of the original Vantablack, making it the world’s largest continuous nanostructure. The matt black material is able to absorb 99% of the light that hits its surface, diminishing its three dimensionality and creating the illusion of a startling black void in broad daylight. The facades of the pavilion are punctuated by thousands of tiny white lights which, during the day, simulate the view into space from that point on earth."

"Inside the 35m x 35m structure, Khan has designed a vast ‘water room’ – a multi-sensory hydrophobic water installation which emits 25,000 singular water droplets every minute. Visitor interaction with a series of haptic sensors creates new rhythms as droplets continually collide, join, and split across the water landscape, which appears like a city viewed from space. These flows of individual droplets col-lect, grow and build into a ‘lake’ which drains and reappears in the space of minutes."

Asif Khan’s super-black building at the 2018 Winter Olympics follows his designs for Coca-Cola’s landmark pavilion at the 2012 London Olympic Games and the MegaFaces pavilion at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics."

Damien Hirst mockumentary "The Treasures from The Wreck of the Unbelievable" hits Netflix

January 08, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Motioncollector, United Kingdom, 2018

The film, financed by the artist himself, seeks to re-enact the fictional backstory behind the divisive show went in Venice last year (see full coverage)

According to the 90-minute mockumentary, the vast Venice spectacle was not the 52-year-old artist’s highly anticipated comeback exhibition, which took 10 years and cost a reported $65 million to produce.

Instead, the film suggests the show was the debut presentation of long-lost treasure discovered by a team of archaeologists and divers off the coast of east Africa. The trove—so the story goes—had been assembled during the 1st or 2nd centuries by a former slave turned voracious collector, Cif Amotan II (an anagram, it turns out, for “I am fiction”).

The 50 Digital Artists we curated offline in 2017

December 27, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Decade, Digital Art, Events, United Kingdom, Art, 2017

Instead of doing our classic Cream of the Top we decided to look back and underline the best thing we did this year. Definitely it was the 5th instalment of Digital Decade collaboration with 50 artists (let's say top artists of 2017 by our version) that ended in August as a group show of Phygital Art in London. And it wouldn't happen without a great support of the partners listed below:

ELLO
Curioos
Sedition Art
Ugly Duck
LUWA
Virtually Mine

Curated by Arseny Vesnin

The concept of Digital Decade5: Cyberia was “the Unknown Territories Shaped by the Digital Ethnos”. This, “Ethnos” refers to the generation of digital people that are changing our world, and continuing to influence our culture. As our world becomes increasingly digital, it ultimately transforms to become a ‘Cyberia’.

Identity of Cyberia

The whole identity of Digital Decade 5 was created by famous artist Ruslan Khasanov who has recently won ADC Young Gun 15 Award and Behance selected him to decorate their own Behance Decade :)
