Illustrative Art of Lauren Marx

November 01, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Illustration, Portfolios, USA, 2016
“Animals always have been, and always will be, my passion. They have been the subjects of my drawings ever since I was a child. I blame it on weekends spent at the Saint Louis Zoo and endless hours watching, National Geographic’s: Mutual of Omaha”. They influenced my desire to learn about biology while attending high school. While in high school, I began collecting bones, feathers, and books. Over these past few years, my passion grew to zoology, cosmology, and mythology.”
— Lauren Marx
“In the spring of 2012, I finally combined my obsessions into one drawing: “Galactic Collision”. The theme surrounding that piece has been the focus of my work ever since.I have developed a symbolic cosmology where mammals represent nebulae, birds are the stars formed within the nebulae, and insects are the elements (or “dust”) created from exploding stars. My hope is that this symbolic representation allows the viewer to see these phenomena as a complete picture of an interacting Universe. Using these animals and insects, I am going to make my own “creation” myth of the Cosmos to parody current and past creation myths which are strongly reliant upon animals, to show how humans attempt to understand the epic intricacy of the Universe. ”

Reine Paradis

October 19, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Portfolios, Photography, USA, 2016

Reine Paradis constructs narrative photographs staging herself as the central figure in a surreal landscape. Paradis is dressed in orange in her images and is shown interacting in colour filled landscapes and as may thought mainly using IKB (International Klein Blue)

Shot in many locations throughout America, the photo series "Jungle" takes us on an introspective journey across a symbolic and chromatic world, projected above the limit of reality and imagination.

ll the scenes are imagined and conceptualised before shooting in real locations. Once the scene is visualised in it’s entirety, Paradis makes sketches and paints the scene to use as a blue print when photographing the final scene. All the costumes, accessories and origamis are meticulously designed and prepared according to the initial vision of the scene.

Le Turtle Restaurant NYC Branding

September 23, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Branding, Interior Design, USA, 2016

Le Turtle's branding  Created by Leta Sobierajski and Wade Jeffree, is full of symbols and metaphors, from black lobster to the latex gloves. The interior uses raw materials, such as wood, concrete or marble, while neon lights or velvet curtains add a touch of extravagance. Inspired by new wave and visual occult, the restaurant color codes are pink and black that set the idea for the branding

"Primary" Branding by DIA Studio

September 20, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Advertising, Agencies, Branding, Graphic Design, Portfolios, USA, 2016

New York based studio DIA  just completed a branding for wellness company Primary using generative graphic design approach

“We began collaborating with the Primary team before a space was secured, allowing the brand strategy and identity to help inform the overall feeling of the space. The Primary identity is based on specific color psychology. We developed a generative based platform that creates unique logos depending on desired moods or time of day. The mix of colors help shape the atmosphere of a room, office or specific piece of collateral. Different hues are used for different activities. For example, a Bikram yoga class would involve more heat and intensity than a meditation class, so the colors would vary accordingly. Additionally, each member or employee will be given an individual sphere matching their personality. The identity is a living and breathing experience that can evolve and change.”

Honeycomb Staircase for NYC Hudson Yards by Thomas Heatherwick

September 15, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, United Kingdom, USA, 2016

Citing Dezeen

"British designer Thomas Heatherwick has revealed a honeycomb-like structure comprising a series of interconnected staircases to sit at the centre of the vast Hudson Yards development on Manhattan's West Side. Named Vessel, the giant sculpture was unveiled today by Heatherwick and New York mayor Bill de Blasio as "the centrepiece to a grand new public space" in the under-construction neighbourhood.

It will sit in a public plaza and gardens designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, and among 16 skyscrapers underway as part of the city's largest urban development since the 1930s Rockefeller Center. The structure comprises a series of metal-clad staircases and landings that connect to form a honeycomb pattern in the shape of a tall vase or urn."

“The goal became to lift people up to be more visible and to enjoy new views and perspectives of each other. The idea is that it will act as a new free stage set for the city and form a new public gathering place for New Yorkers and visitors”
— Thomas Heatherwick

LOOKOUTS

September 14, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Motioncollector, USA, 2016

Sponsored Submission on DCN Platform by Red Gate Films

On their final trial as village LOOKOUTS™, a troop of young scouts are ambushed by the very creature they were hunting. After a violent battle the lone survivor, Pehn, escapes into the shadows of the Eyrewood™, a mysterious and deadly forest that is home to all manner of wild creatures. The most horrifying of all is the Basilisk, a winged titan with the power to turn its prey into stone. This is the beast the troop of LOOKOUTS™ were seeking, and now it hunts for Pehn.

This short film is our first exploration into classic narrative filmmaking and it was an absolute joy to create. It’s based on a popular webcomic created by Penny Arcade®. LOOKOUTS™ gave us an opportunity to explore new storytelling techniques as well as play with gear and tools in a format outside of advertising. The majority of the film is shot practically with live visual effects. We built sets, costumes, and monsters then brought all those resources together with a wonderful cast and crew into the misty overgrowth of Mendocino’s redwood forests for a production experience we’ll forever cherish.
