People Matching Artworks through the lens of Stefan Draschan

October 23, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, Photography, France, 2017

"France-based photographer Stefan Draschan always keeps himself entertained at art galleries by creating his own art projects. One of those projects is “People matching artworks”. Although at first Draschan’s images seem perfectly staged, the secret behind them is actually patience. The photographer enjoys visiting different museums mostly in Paris, Vienna and Berlin where he waits for visitors to suddenly match with a piece of art in a funny way. "

Uncovers by Pol Kurucz

October 16, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Advertising, Agencies, Fashion, Photography, Portfolios, 2017

Pol Kurucz’s "Uncovers" photo series is a Franco-Russo-Brazilian co-production that pokes fun at conventional magazine covers. Rather than posing to sell, the Uncovers models follow their own aesthetic and behavioural norms to tell a colourful story. Uncovers wants the fashion-savvy crowds to reflect on conventionalism and the lack of freedom in the representation of women in commercial publications. The shootings took place in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo during Pol’s transition phase from the fine art world to the more polished and glamorous universe of fashion magazines. The series was a delicate balancing act between the amazement, the deep respect and the irony that the fashion industry inspires to the photographer. This unpublished photo series will be part of Pol Kurucz’s upcoming exhibitions

Encompassing rhythm and beauty, the scene is set around Jessica Louise transformed by the smooth makeup of Yulia Yurchenko. Haunting and unforgettable, the poetic composition is round off with comely muted styles by Hiroshi Goto and Dior under the supervision ofCamille Marchand." via Shön!

ELYTRE - A permanent installation by Yannick Jacquet

October 04, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Photography, France, Motioncollector, 2017

It took 3 years for artist Yannick Jacquet to create Élytre, a forty metres long generative work on display at the foot of the the Alexandre III bridge in Paris. The piece was commissioned as a permanent design feature for Le Flow, a floating building moored along the new pedestrian area on the banks of the Seine.

Yannick Jacquet drew inspiration from the dark mass of the barge between the sky and the river to fine-tune his response to the immediate surroundings, calling on the instability and permanence of the flowing water, the infinitely nuanced shifts of light, and the interplay of transparencies between its large plate-glass windows and the glass dome of the Grand Palais just across the water. Drawing on the barge’s organic, cocoon-like architecture, he came up with a highly sensitive, reactive work in the form of an installation that reverses the overall structural inertia of the barge’s four hundred tons of steel, as if echoing Reyner Banham’s principle of regenerative architecture. The installation is linked up to a battery of sensors so that it varies according to the time of year, season, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, temperature, and so on. It is in a constant state of flux, permanently subject to imperceptible shifts.

After Fabergé by artist Jonathan Monaghan

September 27, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Digital Art, Photography, Portfolios, USA, 2017

After Fabergé, is a personal project and ongoing exhibition of five digital prints created by artist Jonathan Monaghan, to run a half year at The Walters opening in November

After Fabergé is a series of five prints which transform an iconic symbol of status and wealth into uncanny objects composed of modern furniture, computer parts, and historic architecture. Set on stark white backgrounds and rendered with perfect glossy surfaces, the imagined forms appear almost like a commercial product with an eerily ambiguous function. The eggs are meticulously crafted in virtual space and are presented as highly-detailed, large photographic prints

Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa by architect Thomas Heatherwick

September 19, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, South African Republic, United Kingdom, Photography, 2017

"Housed in what was once Cape Town’s tallest building is the newly unveiled Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA), created by London-based architect Thomas Heatherwick. The institution’s 80 gallery spaces were converted from 42 historic grain silos, storage units which were once used to hold and grade maize from all over South Africa"

"Heatherwick Studio transformed the tightly packed tubes into open areas of contemplation, carving out various oblong shapes to make room for large social spaces and lots of light from overhead windows. Heatherwick wished to clear out large spaces for the galleries, however he was also careful about not eliminating the tubular structure of the building completely."

“We realised we needed to do something that your eye couldn’t instantly predict. Our role was destructing rather than constructing, but trying to destruct with a confidence and an energy, and not treating the building as a shrine.”
— Thomas Heatherwick

Cindy Sherman's Art of Selfie

August 10, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Photography, Portfolios, Instagram, 2017

"Before the age of social media and its painstakingly sculpted personae, Pictures Generation artist Cindy Sherman had already established herself as the art world’s reigning queen of self-reinvention, using the camera to morph into one character after another. Though her works are technically not self-portraits, Sherman’s method of turning the lens onto herself is uncannily appropriate to our times, in which the stage-managed selfie has become so ubiquitous that it’s now fodder for exhibitions and often cited as an art form in itself.."

"The (Instagram) account, which mysteriously switched from private to public in recent months, is a mix of personal photos alongside Sherman’s ever-famous manipulated images of herself.." via Artnet
