The Next Rembrandt

May 10, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Art, Netherlands, 2017

It’s been almost four centuries since the world lost the talent of one its most influential classical painters, Rembrandt van Rijn. That's clear world will never see another new piece from him even there were numerous hoax and fakes done during the last century. But what happens when tech minds step in the game? Having Microsoft and ING at their back, researchers, curators and developers from Museum Het Rembrandthuis, TU Delft and Mauritshuis created an AI that has generated a "new" Rembrandt painting by gathering and using data from all of his art legacy.

Treehugger: Wawona - VR Vision of Ancient Sequoia

May 08, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, United Kingdom, Portfolios, Motioncollector, 2017

Tribeca 2017 Storyscapes awarded team of Marshmallow Laser Feast are behind "Treehugger: Wawona" - the VR Experience that is centred on nature's cathedral, the giant Sequoia from the famous Sequoia National Park (California, USA). Wawona is the (local Native American) Miwok’s word for ‘hoot of an owl’, imitating the sound of the Northern Spotted Owl - believed to be the tree’s spiritual guardian.

“The project we chose exemplifies the highest standards of artistry and inventiveness. It explores the potential for new visual forms and investigates unique modes of storytelling that allow us to tap into aspects the world and our lived experience that are intuitively known but seldom articulated. Through its use of poetic abstraction, embodiment, and the viewer’s own imagination and interpretation, we are able to unlock new ways of understanding and experiencing the world around us. We’ve selected this piece because we hope it will inspire others to start creating in ways that take risks and use the limitations of technology to revamp story and experience”
— Jury at Tribeca Film Awards 2017

Participants are invited to don a VR headset, place their heads into the tree’s knot and be transported into the Sequoia’s secret inner world. The longer you hug the tree, the deeper you drift into ‘treetime’: a hidden dimension that lies just beyond the limit of our senses. Audiences embark on a journey of abstract visualisation, following a single drop of water as it traverses from root to canopy in these enormous living structures.

Orbis Integra by GMUNK

May 02, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Motioncollector, USA, Portfolios, 2017

"Technicolor nebula swirl like cyclones across a sub-atomic realm. An endless stream of geometries sequence through the stratification of an atmospheric order that signals life. This is the primordial inception of a new world, in a preternatural cosmos."

"GMUNK's Orbis Integra maps an evolutionary thrust through the surfacing momentum of a biological process. We’re in an ephemeral realm, where the material and non-material churn together like the clash of two infinite oceans."

Wang & Söderström Phygital Reality

April 24, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Denmark, Digital Art, Portfolios, Graphic Design, 2017

Phygital - a new word in describing real world materia crawling into the digital existence and vice versa. This is the best way to describe what Anny Wang and Tim Söderström do on a daily basis by creating an unexpected digital experiences through materiality and technology taken from the real world. "For example, one series, Treasures amalgamates objects which you know are created on screen, but each element uses an analogue perspective. Marble and stone materials, or even a giant wobbly creature-like ball, appear so realistically that initially you think the image is a highly stylised still life shoot."

Fake Brands by REILLY

April 20, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Advertising, Digital Art, Fashion, Graphic Design, Portfolios, United Kingdom, 2017

Working under REILLY name a London-based, Scottish-born graphic designer and art director who for several years now, has been toying cheerily with the logos which we see day in, day out – reworking them with fashion’s greatest mainstays. Given the current proliferation of fake news and high-low collaborations, Reilly saw the fascination with his playful subversion of fashion branding as an opportunity to take things even further, and continued sharing his tongue-in-cheek combinations with the world.

Cristina Burns

April 18, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Portfolios, Italy, 2017, Glitch

Cristina Burns is a photographer and a mixed media artist. Her work is characterised by juxtaposition, where opposing elements such as candies, toys, and flowers are fused to anatomical parts and insects, often blurring the extremely thin lines between fantasy and reality, purity and sin, life and death.

This multiplicity of elements are meticulously arranged to create her surrealistic compositions, then she photographs the assemblage, digitally enhance and prints in a limited number of copies, the resulting print is the only record of the artist's process.

Human After All by Jan Kriwol and Markos R. Kay

April 17, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Portfolios, Photography, 2017

Human After All, a collaboration between artists Jan Kriwol and Markos R. Kay, juxtaposes CGI recreations of the human circulatory system with images of urban landscapes

For the series, Kriwol collaborated with London-based digital artist Markos Kay. “I described my vision to few CGI artists and all of them gave up,” he says. “When I described my idea to Markos he said ‘okay’ straight away. He then developed the technique for creating our guy and proposed his form and texture.”

Pierre Kiandjan Art

April 05, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, France, Portfolios, 2017

As Pierre Kiandjan is selecting color mixes, he aims to create illusion of motion, space, and temperature. The challenge consists in gathering simple shapes within complicated blendings. His pieces reveal a clear use of color shades and broken lines. His main influences include futuristic pieces of architecture invented by Mœbius, radiances of light diffracted by Barbara Kasten's mirrors, living compositions sculpted by Jean Arp, and rhythmic gracefulness drawn by Victor Vasarely.

His Parisian studio answers to design needs from clients belonging to a wide spectrum of sectors: Universal Music, Warner Music, Marie Claire magazine, Le Journal de la Maison magazine, Alex Gopher, Morgane Groupe, Album Surf manufacturing company...

Elena Kulikova Photography

March 20, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Photography, USA, Portfolios, Fashion, 2017

Elena Kulikova immersed herself in a world of commercial photography as a model while simultaneously experimenting on her own in her 20s. Self-taught but mentored by well known photographers, Elena launched her photographic career in Amsterdam in 2006. Her feminine sensibility and creative processing push her photography to deepen the subjects she photographs.

Worth to mention that Elena is a resident of our Digital Decade art collaboration and took a part in London, 2016 exhibition "There is No Planet B" with the concept of "Imagine there is no contamination" briefly shown below.
