Nick Flatt is a realist painter and sculptor notable for his large-format portraits. n Flatt’s words, “This show is about the things we want, and how the need to obtain these vices influence our everyday lives.” Rather than examining the influences conditioning us to lust after sex, money, and power, this exhibit considers “the carrot,” “the glossy images of desire that makes us feel like we are not quite living up to our potential,” “that make our lives feel mediocre.” These portraits, glossy and glamorized yet also uniquely raw and assertive, force us to confront the cheap objectification and manipulation we encounter from countless sources in our daily lives. Flatt explains, “By addressing the strings that pull us to these empty wants, it makes cutting them that much easier.”

"Overlapping Images" is a series of works from Korean artist Ho Ryon Lee. "In his painting, the texture of photography has been used and reproduced –we can define such style as a photo-like picture(photorealism). In reality, the artist took several photos of the model standing in a specific pose. The photos are then composed together via Photoshop, and the finalized product is painted on canvas."

Volvo Art Session

7 Chinese artists from our partners at NeochaEDGE portal were asked to recreate the visual image of Volvo Hybrid car within a 30+ square meter background canvas behind it. That was a live performance in Zurich this June, shot by renowned photographer Francesco Carrozzini.

Sarah Harvey art

Award-winning figurative artist Sarah Harvey inspired by the pools in Tuscany when traveled with scholarship given by Newcastle University in 2003. Since then she concentrates on portraying human body underwater. "Entirely suspended by the water, the human forms are fragmented by the ripples and swirls created by the water, abstracting them, and often with implausible results such as the appearance of disfiguration or distortion. I have become increasingly excited about the abstract elements in these works, and the interplay between light, colour and water. The emerging patterns are becoming more apparent and dominant, drawing the eye not only towards the main focal point of the human form, but also to the surrounding areas, which are of equal significance."

Motherland Russia has enormous quantity of creative gems spread over the land. Today we found Rustam Valeev's street artworks made with chalks. Speechless, just one white chalk 1% of awesome talent and 99% of painstaking perspiration. For now Rustam has no portfolio website but only a page on Russian social network that blocked in most of countries due to a good reason. Hope to see his personal playground one day.

Inspired by brash light, vivid color and glitter, and the punk music scene, Natalia Fabia paints photorealistic images of after-hours bars and parties. Her 2010 series “Punk Rock Rainbow Sparkle” was based on staged photo shoots of lingerie-clad girls that captured a raw yet decadent sensibility. Designcollector is a place for revealing upcoming artist and cares more when it comes to cover new stars from Russian-speaking community. This time we want to feature fresh fashion graduate from Ravensbourne, London; London College Of Fashion - Iryna Gorelikova. Born in Sebastopol, Ukraine, Iryna first completed same university as me in Saint-Petersburg (SUTD). Worth to mention some coincidence that another university fellow and quite famous London fashion designer David Koma was in jury for Iryna. Clap-clap-clap.

Reflecting today’s time, worldwide crises, natural disasters, the rapid growthof social media is the evidence that the world is transforming into new forms of reality.

A dissertation written, with the lead question ‘What is Innovation in Fashion Today? Rei Kawakubo’s phenomenon’, visited lectures in Economics at LSE and Alan Moor’s ‘No straight Lines: making sense of our non-linear world’ talk, were found as primary sources for the main concept for the final collection. The study shows that the world changes from linear to nonlinear existence and one of the most successful business companies today, due to a crisis condition, the Lego Group, with its flagship product, Lego constructor. Lego consists of colourful interlocking plastic bricks and various other parts. After this case study a ‘LEGO concept’ has been found. The main colour of the collection is black and represents our current linear world in combination with other bright colours, like colourful Lego bricks, that are hidden inside of garments (lining) represent the ‘non-linear world’. The use of special metal buttons that by their shape are very similar to Lego bricks, which give to garments a feeling of bricks of clothes that can be assembled and connected in many ways. Anything constructed can be taken apart again. For instance, a dress can be deconstructed into a skirt and a jumpsuit, and so on.

A classical school of pattern making appears in the heart of each look which during the process of FMP development transforms and reflects today’s shapes and silhouettes. Main techniques and features used for building the collection are hand sewing, felting, mixed texture of black fabrics; hats and rings as accessorises.

Autumn/Winter Avant-garde /Concept womenswear Collection is based on, luxury production, expensive fabrics: different types of wool, cashmere; textured, thickness.
