Photographer ZAKI Abdelmounim shares his neon view on the capital of the Risin Sun - Tokyo. During his 8-months journey, he was experimenting with various colour grading techniques that shifted from cyberpunk to vaporwave. We let author speak for himself below

"Tokyo's overwhelming visual presence is an all-out assault on your senses offering a strong immersive cyberpunk experience. A lot to process and too much to take in from the flashing neon lights, the sounds of the busy streets and train stations, and the commercial signs of every building It's downright surreal and truly catches the spirit of what a cyberpunk city would look like. Easily getting lost offers an unmatched thrill and sense of discovery, but a certain follower emerges at night will keep your company during your stroll in the rain."

"It's the "Talking Lights" in the labyrinth of alleys. The dimly-lit neon signs of hiragana and katakana trying to communicate with the fast-paced walkers bring a nostalgic air, and it's a beautiful sight to behold."

Erik Östensson Photography

November 30, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Photography, Portfolios, Sweden, 2017

"In his recent series ‘The Circle and the Line’, Stockholm-based photographer Erik Östensson presents his viewer with subtle complexities in the setting of every day life. His poetic, performative images capture emotive interactions between people, objects and the landscape. In each image, all elements are somewhat intertwined and exist in harmony with one another, forming new relationships in materiality and form."

“When looking at our surroundings, we fill it with our own notions. Without these simplifications, we would not be able to operate within the world’s complexity. I want to create images where the viewer can see it all again. I do this by depicting objects from a new angle and by putting them in a new context. Past notions are replaced and the meanings of familiar objects expand”

Painted bronze, marble

Tony Matelli

November 29, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, Sculpture, USA, 2017

"Matelli's work is known for the juxtaposition of antique looking marble or concrete garden-like statuary, against abrupt hyperrealism embellishments. By contrasting these aged forms against unexpected decorations, such as cast bronze vegetables, fruit, meats and bread, the artist questions the value and purpose of classical figure. Turning them into a setting or a merely a pedestal for presenting common everyday objects, he shows his remarkable technical facility and a cautious romanticism. Both the aged feel of the statues and the freshness of the ornaments are created using elaborate fabrication process and peculiar materials. From meticulously cast and painted bronze that flawlessly depicts the bread texture or gradients of an apple peel, to use of cast glass to evoke the translucence of citrus flesh, Matelli continues to play with viewer's perception while presenting his iconoclastic temperament" —Sasha Bogojev

After a quick view of Sam Adefé sanguine and charcoal drawings, we fell in love with his portraits, emotionally charged, "provoking conversation about certain subject matters that are being ignored, in hope of changing how we chose to look at certain things"

First floor - Kitchen and Dinning area

Highgate Hill by LLI Design

November 27, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, Interior Design, Photography, United Kingdom, Agencies, 2017

London-based LLI Design lead by Linda Levene recently completed a total redesign and refurbishment of a 7 storey townhouse in Highgate, a leafy and desirable part of the city.

First floor - Kitchen Island

Kitchen, Fireplace + Chaise + Joinery Unit

The owners wanted to create a new environment; they liked the idea of having a contemporary house and agreed that the house lent itself to this, however they were concerned that contemporary design could be cold and impersonal.

3rd Floor - Formal Living Room

The brief was to create a contemporary family home, not in a stark clinical sense, but rather, colourful and practical. The key to the overall success of the design was to re-think the dynamics of all the spaces and change the existing layouts to provide a design and flow which responded to their brief. The family had a large collection of vintage travel posters that they wished to display prominently around the house.

4th floor Bedroom

4th Floor - Bespoke Red Lacquer Bed Detail

5th Floor - Master - Dressing - Ensuite

By changing the dynamics of the spaces involved we maximized the available space creating a contemporary, but colourful, warm and inviting home; with a harmonious feel as you move up the house, but with each floor having its own character. As with the majority of LLI Design’s projects, the construction, joinery, home automation and landscaping were carried out by our in-house vertically integrated teams - Pegasus Property & Pegasus Automation.

Above Below Beyond: Janeanne Gilchrist

November 27, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Photography, Portfolios, United Kingdom, 2017

"Above Below Beyond" is an ongoing solo exhibition at The Fergusson Gallery of Scottish photographer Janeanne Gilchrist (Staunch Industries). Her work explores the world under the waves and man's relationship with the sea. With strong themes of folklore, fantasy created from man-made waste, dive with Janeanne into my subconscious mind to find a deeper meaning of life. Freediving in various locations in the Scottish seas for the last 10 years, she has discovered a beautiful new world where gravity doesn’t apply and everything is in constant flux.

S7 Airlines: I Am You

November 25, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Advertising, Motioncollector, 2017

S7 Airlines did it again. You may remember their award-winning collaboration with OK GO, and beautiful video campaigns "I want to go, where.." and "The Best Planet" but their latest "I Am You" smashed them all. Glitch, vaporwave, selfie and unlimited access to planet Earth - that what director Salomon Ligthelm put on an editing deck, mixed and twisted together with Russian agency Stereotactic

“With a decidedly eclectic visual approach, we wanted to convey two worlds, one experienced through the limited lens of other people’s digital experiences - creating a distorted and ultimately ‘unrealistic’ depiction of the world, and the other was an invitation to go and experience the world and its unique cultures and subcultures yourself - be it the Wushu Martial Art Kids of Shaolin, the Drifters of Saudi Arabia, the Bosozoku of Japan, the Shamans of Altai or the eccentric characters of a ‘Burning Man’ type arts festival.”

Vernacular, sculptures by Song Kang

November 24, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Sculpture, Portfolios, USA, 2017

Song Kang is an artist based in Portland, Oregon. She combines her interests in organic forms and textural details to create dreamlike images. Her latest project "Vernacular" features sculptures of imaginary architecture growing from animal bodies.

The term ‘vernacular’ tends to correlate with all things commonplace; however, in the architectural sense, the ‘vernacular’ exemplifies man’s abilities to adapt to his surroundings and build with his environment. This series explores the symbiotic relationship between the vernacular home and the environmental context in which it exists.

Nicolas Garner

November 23, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, France, Portfolios, 2017

Nicolas Garner is a visual artist and designer based in Paris. He graduated with a master’s degree in Art Direction at ECAL. His transdisciplinary practice is characterized by a significant interest in the decompartmentalization of the creative mediums and rigorous approach to research and experimentation. He works in the fields of art, image-making and creative direction as part of self-initiated projects or collaborations.

In his series Hyperreality and Genesis 1:27, which have been exhibited as installations, Nicolas treads the thin line between photography and CGI. In both bodies of work he is “challenging our trust of digitally constructed imagery in the context of our post-photographic era.” His glossy images of the human form blur the boundaries between realness and falseness by appearing at once too slick to be photos but also too realistic not to be. “What I find fascinating in the digital representation of the body, is that it is vain by essence. It’s very legitimate to wonder about the relevance of the use of these technologies in the quest for a faithful representation,” he explains.

INTRA

November 22, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Motioncollector, France, Portfolios, 2017

"We don't know yet what is inside a black hole, we know it is a singularity, a point where every rule of physics collapse. One of the possibilities is called "The White Hole Theory", a sort of exit from the black hole, a point where everything is born, including space and time. Some compare it to the Big Bang."

INTRA tells the visual story of this theory, a journey from the black to the white hole, a cosmic tale of death and birth...
As a tribute to Nolan's Interstellar, this second short after NOVAE go deeper into our conception of cosmos, interpreting the unknown to propose a vision of the most extreme celestial object of our Universe...

Danish-German artist duo Anna Borgman and Candy Lenk created a series of installations exploring “the relationship between sculpture and place”.

"Titled ‘Wurf’ (‘Throw’), the large-scale installation features a piece made of paper maché and wood that mimics a heavy stone. Displayed in a courtyard in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, ‘Wurf I’ is installed in a delicate green glasshouse. ‘Wurf II’ features the stone imitation hanging from the roof of a monastery church near Leipzig."
