Michael Johansson art

Sweden contemporary artist Michael Johansson among numerous of excellent installation works has "Some Assembly Required" and "TOYS’R’US" projects that attracted our attention. Fascinated by assembling objects from model kits as a child, Michael Johansson transforms everyday objects into models of themselves. Taking away their original purpose, the life-size kits hold a commentary on today’s ways of living. In his first piece from the series, TOYS’R’US, a boat and related equipment are joined together in a welded metal frame. Everything is painted in a unifying plastic layer to resemble the surface of a model kit.

Saint Laurent Dance by Heidi Slimane

Hedi Slimane makes his directional debut for Saint Laurent with this film for the new Ballerina line, and boy is it lush. Debuted by Dazed Digital today, its stars the supremely beautiful model / dancer Lida Fox against an eerily-charged tune by Cherry Glazerr, 'Trick or Treat Dancefloor'.

Ballpoint Pen Drawings by Gareth Edwards

New works from Gareth Edwards, a UK based artist, predominantly working in ballpoint pen.

"I began working in ballpoint pen because I was to lazy to sharpen a pencil, or put away my paints at the end of the day. The simplicity of the ballpoint pen first appealed to me at school. The initial scribbles I did then, have since become an addiction in trying to create a drawing that is so realistic its deceives its audience into thinking such a detailed piece couldn't have been created with such a humble source."

En Puntas by Javier Pérez

A trailer for the short film "En Puntas" directed by Javier Pérez. The ballerina (Amélie Ségarra, french dancer), whose pointe shoes are extended by a set of sharp kitchen knives, dances and twirls insistently until reaching exhaustion, fighting to maintain balance on the lid of a grand piano set on a stage. Through this work, Javier Perez investigates and reflects once again upon the human condition. Using a strongly metaphorical language rich in powerful symbolism, he reveals the weaknesses that become the boundaries between seemingly irreconcilable concepts such as: beauty and cruelty, fragility and violence, culture and nature or life and death.
