Designcollector is a place for revealing upcoming artist and cares more when it comes to cover new stars from Russian-speaking community. This time we want to feature fresh fashion graduate from Ravensbourne, London; London College Of Fashion - Iryna Gorelikova. Born in Sebastopol, Ukraine, Iryna first completed same university as me in Saint-Petersburg (SUTD). Worth to mention some coincidence that another university fellow and quite famous London fashion designer David Koma was in jury for Iryna. Clap-clap-clap.

Reflecting today’s time, worldwide crises, natural disasters, the rapid growthof social media is the evidence that the world is transforming into new forms of reality.

A dissertation written, with the lead question ‘What is Innovation in Fashion Today? Rei Kawakubo’s phenomenon’, visited lectures in Economics at LSE and Alan Moor’s ‘No straight Lines: making sense of our non-linear world’ talk, were found as primary sources for the main concept for the final collection. The study shows that the world changes from linear to nonlinear existence and one of the most successful business companies today, due to a crisis condition, the Lego Group, with its flagship product, Lego constructor. Lego consists of colourful interlocking plastic bricks and various other parts. After this case study a ‘LEGO concept’ has been found. The main colour of the collection is black and represents our current linear world in combination with other bright colours, like colourful Lego bricks, that are hidden inside of garments (lining) represent the ‘non-linear world’. The use of special metal buttons that by their shape are very similar to Lego bricks, which give to garments a feeling of bricks of clothes that can be assembled and connected in many ways. Anything constructed can be taken apart again. For instance, a dress can be deconstructed into a skirt and a jumpsuit, and so on.

A classical school of pattern making appears in the heart of each look which during the process of FMP development transforms and reflects today’s shapes and silhouettes. Main techniques and features used for building the collection are hand sewing, felting, mixed texture of black fabrics; hats and rings as accessorises.

Autumn/Winter Avant-garde /Concept womenswear Collection is based on, luxury production, expensive fabrics: different types of wool, cashmere; textured, thickness.

100 Frames - The A to Z of London

100 Frames is a brand new collaboration between Animator and Director - Fraser Davidson, Actor and Writer - Dan Jones and Producer - Matthew Harvey. The idea is simple - to create 4 second animation (exactly 100 frames) for each alphabet letter representing something very London-ish and special.

Pedro Matos "Heritage"

Pedro Matos is an Artist and Curator born in Santarém, Portugal. After moving to UK and completing a painting course at Central Saint Martins, Pedro went on to pursue his career there in London, where he currently lives and works nowadays. His work has been exhibited at numerous galleries and museums across the world, such as the University of Arizona’s Museum of Modern Art, Philips de Pury in London, White Walls gallery in San Francisco and Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. Pedro Matos also works as a curator and was responsible for shows in Lisbon, London, Atlanta and Miami, having also recently co-founded Ivory&Black Soho in London.

Regarding the new work, Pedro states – “Through this exhibition I am trying to question my personal and cultural heritage, and how these values and conditions evolve and change over time in our society…” He is having an exhibition opening tomorrow in Ivory&Black titled "Heritage", watch the video below

John Paul Thurlow illustration

New York based British artist John Thurlow (@jptcovers) has called our attention few years ago while working on personal series of "a selected magazine covers redrawn with a sole pencil". This project host more than a hundred of stunning cover arts that are two times worth than the original magazine cover. His next Covers vol 2 features free artwork mostly inspired by magazines but layered with personal wordings or common phrases (also inspired by music). Outside illustration world he is Creative Director at Grey Group and also has a personal design-related portfolio on Behance.

Magnus Gjoen's prints examines how to change peoples relationship and preconceived notions of objects. Something which is potentially extremely destructive can be made into beautiful yet fragile objects of art. Taking inspiration from street and pop art and juxtapositioning it with fine art, he creates new and modern takes on old masterpieces or manipulates something powerful and strong into something fragile but beautiful. Magnus Gjoen was born in London to Norwegian parents and studied design in London and Milan and works as a designer/graphic designer for Vivienne Westwood.

A Letterpress Film

South Devon-based filmmaker Danny Cooke has documented the dying art of letterpress in a short film titled ‘Upside Down, Left To Right: A Letterpress Film’. Beautifully crafted, the under 8-min documentary showcases one of the only few remaining movable-type printing workshops in the UK, located at Plymouth University.

More4 identity by Man vs Machine

After winning a competitive pitch, Channel 4 commissioned ManvsMachine to create a new brand identity and on-air look for More4. The package aligns with a re-focussed range of content on the channel.

Concept, design & direction: ManvsMachine "The re-brand is centred round a bold, flexible logo that morphs through a series of flips, folds and reveals. The colour palette reflects the vibrant nature of interiors, food culture, fashion and other contemporary lifestyle programming."

Installation design: Jason Bruges Studio "Channel 4 in-house creative agency, 4Creative and ManvsMachine commissioned Jason Bruges Studio as Production Designers for the new More 4 live-action idents for the channel. The studio created the production design, build and installation across 4 different locations including 2 outdoor and 2 indoor sites. With just 4 weeks from commissioning to installation the studio drafted in production help from Middlesex University. All of the production was completed in the studio’s workshop in Old Street, London."
