Porcelain Beauty by Juliette Clovis

March 03, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, France, Portfolios, Sculpture, 2017

"French artist Juliette Clovis works primarily with female busts, mutating the forms to adopt animal or floral-based characteristics. Using both the 2D application of paint, and 3D addition of ceramics, she covers the females that she sculpts in horns, quills, and blooms. In some works the natural elements look as if they merge with the bust, while others appear overtaken, such as in the piece Memento mori (2016). In this piece Clovis’ white figure is almost entirely covered in flowers, with minimal elements of her face barely peaking out from its blanket of ceramic blossoms."

Clovis will have a solo exhibition of her work at Gallery Mondapart in Paris titled “Baroque Curiosities” opening March 23 and running through May 4, 2017.

An Ultraviolet LED Light from TJOKEEFE

January 27, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Sculpture, 2017

"TJOKEEFE kills it with graphic, angular furniture and objects and the latest release, UV, is a bold triangular light sculpture that hangs on a flat surface or in a corner. A flexible, woven nylon thread is what creates the triangular composition when it’s suspended on the wall. With the ultraviolet LEDs embedded in the powder-coated aluminium bar, the thread becomes its own light source as the ultraviolet light projects onto it, creating the ethereal red and purple, triangular glow."

Art of Soasig Chamaillard

January 12, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, Sculpture, France, 2017

French artist Soasig Chamaillard started to collect damaged statues of the Virgin Mary and restore them in a perfect own way adding superficial abilities one can only pray for. Our favourite is Notre Dame du Poulpe or simply Lady Octopus

A Bubble

Schoony

January 03, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, Sculpture, United Kingdom, Street Art, 2017

Schoony is a leading urban artist whose unique aesthetic and technical brilliance has brought the art world by storm. His hyper realistic sculptures question war, mortality and contemporary society.

His most iconic life cast sculpture “Boy Soldier” first unveiled outside the houses of parliament as an anti-war protest, is now a household name, featured in Hollywood blockbusters and collected internationally. Since then Schoony has experimented with many different themes, examining capitalism and pop culture, with his keen eye and technical ability Schoony remains one of the few artists working within the life-cast discipline.

Fasted by Studio Dessuant Bone

November 11, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Design, Portfolios, Sculpture, France, 2016

Studio Dessuant Bone is a multi-disciplinary design consultancy based in Paris, with our specialities in direction, design, product and interiors. Their conceptual series of tableware objects "Fasted" was presented last year at Salone Del Mobile 2015

“We have created a set of non functional tableware and focused on their representation, producing a drawing in volume made of blue metal wire. This dinner scene is framed by a brushed brass circle. ‘Fasted’ questions the links between objects surrounding us and their representation.”

Lucid Dreams by sculptor Johnson Tsang

October 24, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, China, Sculpture, Portfolios, 2016

Johnson Tsang (previously) is an exceptional artist who skilfully combines figurative sculptural techniques with surreal portrayals. His latest series ‘Lucid Dream’ consists of sculptures of human heads in strangely transformed representations. The sculptures were made of porcelain representing different faces or personalities in a variety of weird situations. The complete series could be seen at Hong Kong’s Sculpture Biennial 2016.

Sculptures by Crisitina Córdova

August 16, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, Sculpture, USA, 2016

Cristina Cordova is a sculptor currently based in Penland, North Carolina. She now works with ceramics to create powerful, reflective figures which create an emotional entrypoint for those experiencing her work. She often jumpstarts her work with a specific notion: what is important to her culture or her family. She envisions herself primarily as a growing artist; though her identity now includes being a partner and a mother.

Quayola Captives #B04

July 30, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, USA, Sculpture, Portfolios, 2016
“In every block of marble I see a statue as plain as though it stood before me, shaped, and perfect in attitude and action. I have only to hew away the rough walls that imprison the lovely apparition to reveal it to the other eyes as mine see it. The best artist has that thought alone which is contained within the marble shell; the sculptor’s hand can only break the spell to free the figures slumbering in the stone. The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection.”
— Michelangelo

In Spring 2016 Quayola presented solo exhibition Laocoön at One Canada Square in London. The exhibition was a continuation of the artist’s ongoing research into iconography, whereby he abstracts classical sculptures using digital rendering and production techniques. In so doing, Quayola creates new spaces in which relationships between classical and contemporary art forms and themes can be re-thought.

Left Out by Maxwell Rushton

July 21, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, United Kingdom, Sculpture, 2016

As there is literally no Planet B we must think not only about our relationship with environment but with the people around us, especially the ones in need. It is still unclear how we can raise millions in kickstarter for another gadget and avoid helping a bunch (in terms of percentage) of homeless people. British sculptor Maxwell Rushton approached by similar thoughts has created a "Left Out" piece on streets of London where nearly 7000 slept rough on streets during last year.

Translated Vase by Yeesookyung

June 29, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Portfolios, Art, Sculpture, South Korea, 2016
“Korean artist Yeesookyung masterfully produces imperfect sculptures, bulbous yet elegant works composed from mismatched porcelain. The series, titled “Translated Vase,” was first inspired by the Korean artisan tradition of destroying porcelain works that are not deemed pristine, and she has continued to make the fused pieces since 2001. Intrigued by these tossed aside works and shards, Yee began saving fragmented tea cups and pots rejected by contemporary masters. Honoring the works’ dismantled states, she traces each crevice in 24-karat gold leaf in the style of Japanese kintsugi, merging the unwanted works together in a way that heightens the beauty of their distress. In this way she blends diverse methods to form a contemporary process that evokes both the elegant designs of her homeland and the delicate rebuilding of damaged works in Japanese tradition.”

Romain Langlois Sculpture

June 17, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in France, Portfolios, Sculpture, 2016, Art

Romain Langlois is a self-taught French contemporary artist based in La Côte Martin, France. He is known for manipulating natural elements and using bronze sculpture to challenge and shape viewers' perceptions of life, death and the world around them. Langlois uses specialized methods that lead to controlled, relatively fast petrification and crystallization, which continues his theme of questioning nature and human perceptions.
