CarbonSpace

January 24, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in South Korea, Motioncollector, Art, Digital Art, Portfolios, 2018

CarbonScape is the latest kinetic data soundscape installation created by h0nh1m aka Chris Cheung  It consists of 18 tracks of granular synthesized sound samples, collected from the sound sources where carbon footprints left; from the jet engine sound, steam noises of the factory to the horn of the ships etc…one minute long for each track, giving chances to stand in silent tribute to the mother earth. The finale is composed of all tracks blending into the soundscape.

The work is a visualisation of carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere according to the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) since 1958. In 2017, the concentration of CO2 soared to its highest of the past three million years, with industrialization and the use of fossil fuels being one of the major factors. The installation arranged in a bamboo forest like landscape, with the changing ambience drone noises, imitates chimneys frequently found in power plants and factories, with black spheres indicating CO2 levels around the globe. Immersing the viewer in an environment taken over with chimneys, CarbonScape thinks about what our position as humans can be, while the earth’s capacity for life reaches its limits.

Angelo Musco "Aaru"

January 22, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Italy, Motioncollector, Photography, Portfolios, 2018

"After 18 months of hard work in the studio, the Italian artist Angelo Musco is ready to to share his ‘Aaru’—  a the culmination of many photo shoots and hours in the studio. being the artist’s medium, the human body is the basis of the new work."

"The word ‘Aaru’ comes from Egyptian mythology and represents an eternal paradise, a lush oasis for eternity. The ancient Egyptians believed that after death they had a dangerous journey through the underworld to the hall of final judgment where the ‘weighing of the heart’ was executed before they could continue onto the paradise of Aaru."

Wang & Söderström Phygital Art

Volvo Studio Stockholm
January 18, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Portfolios, Sculpture, Sweden, Art, 2018

When digital meets physical anything can happen and Stokholm based duo Anny Wang & Tim Söderström managed to push their screen art into the real world

"Transitional Speculation is Wang & Söderström’s first major exhibition in Stockholm and “is the first time where we have a platform where we can showcase a broader perspective of our works,” says Tim. “With additional works, both digital and physical, the foundation of our practice which originates in the physical world, is more comprehensible.” In its combination of the unexpected and twisted familiar, the exhibition aims to create an “experience of something ostensibly well-known, something one recognises from the real world that suddenly feels warped,” adds Anny. “Where a small detail makes you question what you are seeing and by extension, how you are perceiving the world.”

Moving Creates Vortices and Vortices Create Movement

January 02, 2018 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Portfolios, Japan, Motioncollector, 2018

"For their latest dizzying interactive installation, Japanese collective teamLab (previously) brought the ocean indoors, creating a projected environment that reacts to the movements of visitors, all encased within the infinite space of a mirror room. Titled “Moving Creates Vortices and Vortices Create Movement” the work is inspired in part by the life cycle of the ocean, particularly the movement of plankton as represented by the reactive particle effects that spin like whirlpools as you pass through the exhibition space. The speed and direction of people’s movements are all factored into the projections and in the absence of motion the room gradually reverts to darkness." via Colossal

The 50 Digital Artists we curated offline in 2017

December 27, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Decade, Digital Art, Events, United Kingdom, Art, 2017

Instead of doing our classic Cream of the Top we decided to look back and underline the best thing we did this year. Definitely it was the 5th instalment of Digital Decade collaboration with 50 artists (let's say top artists of 2017 by our version) that ended in August as a group show of Phygital Art in London. And it wouldn't happen without a great support of the partners listed below:

ELLO
Curioos
Sedition Art
Ugly Duck
LUWA
Virtually Mine

Curated by Arseny Vesnin

The concept of Digital Decade5: Cyberia was “the Unknown Territories Shaped by the Digital Ethnos”. This, “Ethnos” refers to the generation of digital people that are changing our world, and continuing to influence our culture. As our world becomes increasingly digital, it ultimately transforms to become a ‘Cyberia’.

Identity of Cyberia

The whole identity of Digital Decade 5 was created by famous artist Ruslan Khasanov who has recently won ADC Young Gun 15 Award and Behance selected him to decorate their own Behance Decade :)

The curator of Digital Decade and Designcollector founder Arseny Vesnin was happy enough to cross path with leading artist Shane Griffin whose works you can see on iPhone X and 8 now. But long before this, he created a special artwork for Cyberia collaboration

Xhxix Art

December 26, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Japan, Portfolios, 2017

Xhxix is a Tokyo-based artist whose digital paintings depict mostly gaunt young men in surreal states of mental anguish or physical injury. His subjects are inspired by niche models, such as Jacob Morton, whose pictures he gathers off the internet.

Rubber People by Simon Christoph Krenn

December 21, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Motioncollector, Portfolios, 2017

"Simon Christoph Krenn’s 3D animation, Parasitic Endeavours, initially started out as the creative wanting to explore distorted perspectives on human evolution."

Simon-Christoph-Krenn-4.png
Simon-Christoph-Krenn-3.png
Simon-Christoph-Krenn-2.png
Simon-Christoph-Krenn-1.png

The result is a compilation of body parts, mainly heads and torsos, that wobble along a white backdrop and bump together like rubber mannequins. The hyperreal detail is unnerving and to see recognisable human parts being manipulated making the viewer feel both uncomfortable and mesmerised.

From Colors to None by Leonardoworx

December 07, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Graphic Design, Portfolios, Motioncollector, Italy, 2017

In the creative industry, we are overwhelmed by abstract CGI animation, most of the times made using presets, most of the times without a concept.
FROM COLORS TO NONE is a research about 3 human steps through colours. Each step is represented by a basic geometric form: A circle, a square and a triangle. The circle is humanity, Square is coherence, Triangle is relationships. Nowadays, these 3 aspects are, day by day, chocked by our digital routine. Sometimes we feel like swimming in the sand, blinded by powder. But when it seems all black, we try to survive and research for a new balance. So we build our Color Machine from none. Cause, maybe,  from none we come… and our life is 100% colourful :)

Nicolas Garner

November 23, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, France, Portfolios, 2017

Nicolas Garner is a visual artist and designer based in Paris. He graduated with a master’s degree in Art Direction at ECAL. His transdisciplinary practice is characterized by a significant interest in the decompartmentalization of the creative mediums and rigorous approach to research and experimentation. He works in the fields of art, image-making and creative direction as part of self-initiated projects or collaborations.

In his series Hyperreality and Genesis 1:27, which have been exhibited as installations, Nicolas treads the thin line between photography and CGI. In both bodies of work he is “challenging our trust of digitally constructed imagery in the context of our post-photographic era.” His glossy images of the human form blur the boundaries between realness and falseness by appearing at once too slick to be photos but also too realistic not to be. “What I find fascinating in the digital representation of the body, is that it is vain by essence. It’s very legitimate to wonder about the relevance of the use of these technologies in the quest for a faithful representation,” he explains.

Moodles is a short animation based on the effects of negative emotions on one's self. It turns built up tension, stress, and anxiety into creative catharsis. Frozen figures – once paralyzed by moods – are reduced to heaps of flexible nothingness.
