Liu Di

June 03, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Art, Digital Art, China, Photography, Portfolios, TOP 2019

From a massive animal sitting amidst a sprawl of slum housing to a giant man with a hyperrealistic face that nevertheless seems to be more plastic than flesh, jarring contrasts are often used to great effect in establishing the sense of surrealism in the works of Chinese visual artist Liu Di

In Animal Regulation, Liu reevaluates the relationship between civilization and nature by placing gargantuan animals in unexpected urban settings.

Sanctum by Levi van Veluw

May 30, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Art, Netherlands, Portfolios, TOP 2019

Dutch artist Levi van Velum created an immersive installation “Sanctum” curated by Angel Moya Garcia

“The installation Sanctum, developed especially for Tenuta Dello Scompiglio, testifying of a fictitious religious conviction, engages all the senses of the visitor. The last room where visitors ended their journey in Kerguénnec, "The relativity of the matter", becomes the starting point for a more elaborate proposition in the expositive space of Dello Scompiglio. Levi van Veluw based Sanctum on of the first religious buildings, the Tabernacle, also called the tent of meeting. This tent served as a place of worship and symbolised God’s presence amidst those who had gathered.”

May 28, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Photography, Portfolios

Cape Town photographer and creative activist Dillon Marsh continues doing meaningful project regarding planet environment by visualising simple stats. This time he created accurately scaled ice models depicting amount glaciers lost weight every minute and placed them within typical human environments. His plan for “Counting the Costs” to be a global project, but this first instalment is focussed on glaciers in India, home to some of the highest mountains in the world.

18.64 cubic meters – the average volume of ice lost on Chhota Shigri glacier every minute

62.15 cubic meters – the average volume of ice lost on Tipra Bank glacier every half hour

2.55 cubic meters – the average volume of ice lost on Dunagiri glacier every minute

Sufferosa

May 17, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Instagram

@Sufferosa, a Mystery Adventure in III Acts, directed by The Kissinger Twins is an interactive Instagram series that reflects on youthfulness, beauty, and the sense of being lost in a maze you can’t escape

Thematically, @Sufferosa is a neo-noir thriller and a satire on the cultural obsession with beauty and youth in the present-day world. The story follows a private eye Ivan Johnson looking for a missing woman. His investigation leads him to Carlos von Braun’s Clinic. This is when the interactive part begins - the user becomes the detective and unfolds the story piece by piece adding suspense and intrigue to a narrative.

In this artistic, non-commercial storytelling experiment the directors duo The Kissinger Twins strive to create a new kind of serialized storytelling in social media. @Sufferosa blends original footage with samples from classic film, literature, and music (Glass Candy, Sonic Youth), taking influences from adventure games.

Dalí Lives

Dali Museum
May 11, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Art, Digital Art, USA

“I believe in general in death, but in the death of Dali, absolutely not.” Salvador Dalí

Just in time of his 115 Anniversary, St.Petersburg (Florida, US) museum of Salvador Dalí brought him back alive using AI technologies

“The exhibition, called Dalí Lives, was made in collaboration with the ad agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners (GS&P), which made a life-size re-creation of Dalí using the machine learning-powered video editing technique. Using archival footage from interviews, GS&P pulled over 6,000 frames and used 1,000 hours of machine learning to train the AI algorithm on Dalí’s face. His facial expressions were then imposed over an actor with Dalí’s body proportions, and quotes from his interviews and letters were synced with a voice actor who could mimic his unique accent, a mix of French, Spanish, and English.”

“With 45 minutes of newly created footage and thousands of combinations, each visitor gets a different experience. There are scenes that open with him reading the newspaper, with an overlay of the current front page of The New York Times; if it’s raining, he’ll comment on the weather”

Pelle Cass Photography

May 10, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Digital Art, Photography, Portfolios, USA

“A photographer and digital artist, Cass combines hundreds of singular moments shot in the street and other public locations. In his photos, made in locations ranging from nondescript city streets to college sports arenas, bodies battle for attention, perfectly stopped and coordinated. Cass’s ongoing series Selected People began in 2008 in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he lives”

“To make the compositions, I put my camera on a tripod, take up to a thousand pictures, and compile selected figures into a final photograph that is kind of a still time-lapse. I change nothing — not a pixel. I simply select what to keep and what to omit. It all happened precisely as you see it, just not at the same time”

OFFF Barcelona 2019 Main Titles

May 09, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Motioncollector, OFFF

Chris Bjerre was invited by OFFF Festival to create official Main Titles for 2019 head event went in Barcelona last month

In a parallel universe our infrastructure and power grid has collapsed. All lines of communication have broken down. In the absence of influence, organic life has started to evolve.

This film is meditation on the creative path and how we as creatives often need to go through hardship and discomfort in order to evolve and grow.
