Transcending Boundaries

PACE
January 31, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, United Kingdom, Japan, 2017, Art

Butterflies flap, a wild ocean rages and a waterfall cascades through the space in teamLab’s digital art exhibition, currently on show at Pace London.

In the mind, there are no boundaries between ideas and concepts, they are inherently ambiguous and influence and interact with each other. In order for ideas and concepts to be expressed in the real world it is necessary to have a physical material substance through which they are mediated. Boundaries are created when ideas and concepts are materialized in the real world.

Within the digital domain, art is able to transcend physical and conceptual boundaries. Digital technology allows art to break free from the frame and go beyond the boundaries that separate one work from another. Elements from one work can fluidly interact with and influence elements of the other works exhibited in the same space. In this way, the boundaries between art pieces dissolve.

teamLab (f. 2001, Tokyo, by Toshiyuki Inoko) is an interdisciplinary group of ultra-technologists whose collaborative practice seeks to navigate the confluence of art, technology, design and the natural world. Rooted in the tradition of ancient Japanese Art and contemporary forms of anime, teamLab operates from a distinctly Japanese sense of spatial recognition, investigating human behavior in the information era and proposing innovative models for societal development

Light Masonry by Jason Bruges

January 19, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, United Kingdom, Motioncollector, 2017

Leading light installation artist Jason Bruges was approached by Arts Council England, to make a piece for Illuminating York event went in 2016. The Festival encourages visitors to explore and discover the city through the imagination of artists, using the medium of light in all its forms.

Light Masonry is an epic, site specific, light installation based in the main nave of York Minster. The artwork is founded on the construct of creating a secondary layer of dynamic, temporal and ephemeral architecture sculptured from light. Inspired by the continuous crafting and iterating of the layers of work by the Minster’s stonemasons, the studio has investigated the relationship between the vaults, light and the audience. Drawing upon the ceremonial nature of the space, the studio has created a synchronized procession of light that highlights and explores the nave as a choreographed architectural experience. The art installation inscribes the perimeter of the main nave and is constructed from a bespoke system of 48 computer controlled Icon Beam moving head luminaires, animating a dynamic light architecture around the atmospheric volumes of the nave. The piece is immersive and complimented by the soundscape of Intervallo by Arvo Pärt, performed by John Bradbury and Benjamin Morris the Minsters organists.

Art of Thomas Hedger

January 16, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in United Kingdom, Portfolios, Instagram, Illustration, Art, 2017

Balancing between art and illustration a bold graphics of Thomas Hedger is a good reminder that only personal techniques makes every artist unique. Using print, and more over, silk print style with heavy lines and pure forms, rasterised shadows and pop art topics Thomas' works stand out and invite you to move forward by that colourful river of emotions and small stories.

Art of Andrew McIntosh

January 10, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, United Kingdom, Portfolios, 2017

Scottish painter Andrew McIntosh  takes ubiquitous structures often abandoned on rural homesteads like travel campers or sheds and reveals hidden worlds within: radiant sunsets and expansive skies that appear like portals into another place. Drawing inspiration from a childhood spent in the Highlands of Scotland, the London-based painter gives unexpected life to derelict buildings set against the backdrop of mist-filled woods and frozen mountains.

Schoony

January 03, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, Sculpture, United Kingdom, Street Art, 2017

Schoony is a leading urban artist whose unique aesthetic and technical brilliance has brought the art world by storm. His hyper realistic sculptures question war, mortality and contemporary society.

His most iconic life cast sculpture “Boy Soldier” first unveiled outside the houses of parliament as an anti-war protest, is now a household name, featured in Hollywood blockbusters and collected internationally. Since then Schoony has experimented with many different themes, examining capitalism and pop culture, with his keen eye and technical ability Schoony remains one of the few artists working within the life-cast discipline.

AKQA – The Snow Fox

December 16, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Agencies, United Kingdom, Mobile Applications, 2016

Just in time for this holiday season, AKQA launched The Snow Fox – a children’s story that comes to life by voice.

The Snow Fox is a wintry tale of a young child who adventures through the forest with a newfound furry friend in search of his/her mother. But this is no ordinary story. The Snow Fox is powered by words. As the child reads, the story animates. When a sentence is finished, the story automatically transitions to the next scene. Word by word the story comes to life, bringing an element of magic to special bedtime story bonding moments between parent and child.

Download app

Using the latest SiriKit to turn voice into a reading gesture—a mobile first—The Snow Fox gives new life to the oldest form of story while transforming how we incentivize our children to learn. At the end of The Snow Fox, children can create a short memento of their narration to share with family and friends, highlighting their voice.

Intangible Matter by Lucy Hardcastle

December 12, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, United Kingdom, TOP 2016, 2016

We deeply hope this is a last year to raise the humiliating question of women role in art.. in everything, especially when the audience is 60% of you - the best ever Earth can give. For DC it was essential from the start to praise female work and speak about projects like "The Fifth Sense" (even it's based on commercial platform) that are revealing female talents worldwide. The Fifth Sense is a new initiative run by i-D Magazine and Chanel. Below we share the epic project delivered by young British digital artist Lucy Hardcastle aimed to sense the beautiful scent via digital online installation..

Taking her brief from The Fifth Sense, she wanted to combine the idea of scent with the already existing sensory angle of her work and make something unique. The result is inspiring and impressive: a jewellery box of compartments and chambers to discover online – actual objects that you want to touch and lick that have the duality of being hyper-real but also action filled digital responses. “In terms of a website, it’s really something that hasn’t been done before – people haven't had the reason to make a site built with WebGL that's so visual. We wanted to make work that makes other people question how we did it.”

"Intangible Matter" is a digital journey to make the invisible, visible. Inspired by CHANEL Nº5 L’Eau. Explore the physical and virtual elements of scent by deconstructing its unseen elements, combining the scientific yet emotive components of fragrance in a digital space. Each individual journey is unique to the user through the interactions and tasks of each space, creating a visual and sonic world of discovery.

At still only 24, Lucy Hardcastle is simultaneously studying her masters in Information Experience Design at the Royal College of Art. “Think of it as interactive design but grounded in data. I have a real gang of creatives,” she continues, “I just feel that as a young person, as long as you carve out a space for yourself and have a community, then you’ll be cool."

Chirstmas Tree for Claridge's by Sir Jonthan Ive and Marc Newson

December 08, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Design, United Kingdom, 2016

Mayfair hotel Claridge's has unveiled its 2016 festive installation, this year designed by Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson

The unveiling of the Claridge’s Christmas tree has traditionally heralded the start of London’s festive season, not least because of the illustrious roster of designers who have headlined the Mayfair hotel’s installations. For 2016, it is designers (and long-time friends of the hotel) Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson who have taken up the challenge of reinterpreting the tree.

Just few days ago he started a new campaign for Advent Calendar

“Fuck chocolate.
A group of naked people slowly revealing themselves over the duration of a month is so much better (IMO).
Treat yourself in December by removing a different humans clothes each day.
Each person is numbered (1-24) and their clothes are printed with a rub removable opaque gold ink (or in layman’s terms - that stuff you get on scratch cards).”

Contrived Structures Nick Sellek

November 30, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portugal, Photography, United Kingdom, 2016

Contrived Structures is a series of photographs created by Nick Sellek depicting detailed models, embracing the contrived structures that surround us in our overdeveloped urban environments. They are close up, exaggerated studies of architectural components, severed from context to emphasise the absurdity of their design. The models are also intended to be displayed as freestanding objects, and to be viewed from all angles.

Design Museum London

November 21, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, Branding, United Kingdom, 2016

"The art of designing a museum is one filled with expectation and promise: a unique challenge for designers. It’s been a rare opportunity for the talents of Fernando Gutiérrez, Morag Myerscough, Cartlidge Levene, OK-RM and Hato to define the character and personality of this new incarnation of the Design Museum in South Kensington."

"The identity for the Design Museum is crisp, clean and acts as the nervous system of the museum. The job was given to Fernando Gutiérrez and his London-based studio of the same name, which has an international client list and a talent for creating identities, exhibitions and signage."
