VAL

From February 15, 2013 to February 15 of this year, designer Simon Graham documented his life—first-person style—with his phone. Val, the name of Graham's resulting documentary, comes from both the artist’s mother’s and son’s full names. It serves as a commemoration to both Valerie Sheppard and Leonard Valentino Graham, who passed away and were born, respectively, in Graham’s single year of documentation. In Graham’s own words, he felt the name “truly represents this crazy circle of life” we live in.

Being a fan of documenting every day a second I am completely interested in the way Graham did his video. All the photos are hand stabilised and taken as a batch using iPhone.

Wes Anderson Centred

I have not watched much of Wes Anderson films, but in Grand Hotel Budapest I was really impressed by the quality of each frame, colour and the amazing transitions he uses. Few days later I found a video that explained much of Wes' perfectionism - UK based director Kogonada did a nice research for Anderson's love to symmetry and centred composition.

P.s. One can point that Wes was inspired by Stanley Kubrick way of building a frame, so mister Kogonada has also explained master's obsession in a centred composition a year ago here

Sam Alive photography

Born in Taiwan and trapped in New York City photographer Sam Alive has a natural talent for capturing beautiful moments of his life that one can call routine. His personal online playgrounds like Flickr, Tumblr, Facebook and Instagram are full of awesome moments but personally we liked his latest series of mobile photography "Through the Phone" where he uses his iPhone to capture landscapes and scenes through a digital lens.

We Go to the Gallery

Miriam Elia's new take on a 1960s Ladybird book. Peter, Jane and Mummy go to a gallery and learn about sex, death and contemporary art. She successfuly ran first thousand prints through Kickstarter project but it is the Ladybird book publisher Penguin, rather than the art world, which isn't so happy about the project. We hope she resolve the legal issues this spring and we will have a chance to order the book from her website.

United Visual Artists: Momentum

UVA explore light and movement with great new installation - Momentum

“My first question was how can we curve light,” Matt Clark of United Visual Artists says standing in the studio’s new installation at London’s Barbican. Momentum – which opens today – consists of “12 pendulums that activate light and sound as they swing” but that doesn’t come close to explaining the brilliant experience it provides.

Based in Tbilisi, Georgia, design studio ‘XYZ Integrated Architecture’ has an affinity for tilted axes and acute angles. Walking City

Architecture + Evolution + Movement = Universal Everything Referencing the utopian visions of 1960’s architecture practice Archigram, Walking City is a slowly evolving video sculpture. The language of materials and patterns seen in radical architecture transform as the nomadic city walks endlessly, adapting to the environments she encounters.
