The BOID Journal Identity by ESKIMO Studio

St.Petersburg branding studio ESKIMO designed a modern face of the B.O.I.D Journal writing about the best worldwide identities and graphic designs.

"Our proposal takes inspiration in the legends of the dragon who guards his jewels in a dark cave. B.O.I.D’s logo is based on traditional European heraldic dragon images but stylised by adding sharp edges and little angularity common for cave stones. The idea of the hidden and guarded gold was implemented by designing triplex business cards (black-gold-black) and small gold accents applied to other mediums using foil block stamping technology. Each new journal project corresponds to a golden coin in the dragon’s treasury."

NUDE Cafe & Wine Bar Moscow by Form Bureau

"Located in a 1930’s residential building in the very heart of Moscow is Nude Coffee & Wine Bar, a small family establishment that was completed in 2014 by design studio Form Bureau. Taking advantage of the building’s existing materials, the designers decided to partially chip away multiple layers of plaster and paint to reveal the original brick walls, to expose all the beautifully aged textures and colours that were hidden beneath. To complement the graceful decay of the walls, simple and rough materials such as concrete and wood were introduced for the furniture, together with small brass accents and a stark black-and-white pattern on the floor. The dining area is separated from the kitchen by a concrete bar top that is comfortable enough for eating, while a storage area is concealed behind the eye-catching menu display board. Carefully planned lighting design adds spark and lightness to the space, while the illuminated logo over the bar (designed by Denis Sharypin) tops off the strong identity and character of the venue." text via Yatzer

Rubik’s Snake Lamp by Oikimus

Introducing the Rubik’s Snake Lamp, designed by Oikimus Maria and Ivan Zverev, of Oikimus Design based in our lovely city of Saint-Petersburg.Just like the toy Rubik’s Snake (a hit of the seventies, really), the lamp is made up of elements interconnected by hinges that allow the parts to rotate 360° to create various two- and three-dimensional shapes. Do note that the lamp’s case is made of plywood, outfitted with LEDs inside that illuminate through frosted Plexiglas.

Hyperjump

Hyperjump” is a light and sound sculpture performance created by Tundra Collective, took place in December 2014, at First Cadet Corps, Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Installation occupied the old soviet basketball ground built inside a 19-century classicism hall a part of the Military Academy building. The 25 moving head spotlights and a powerful 2-channel sound system created the atmosphere of a void and a Hyper Jump. While the light sculpture started to move, the electronic light devices came live, following the audience movements.

Lights: Alexander Letcius, Alexander Sinica, Pavel Zmunchila Sound: D-Pulse Technical support: Main Division Event idea and production: the Dreamers United, Bulat Sharipov Special thanks to: Saint Petersburg State University, The Riders, Publica

Emojiple - Emoji People by BHSAD Students

Moscow based High School of Art and Design (BHSAD) strikes again (check all previous workshops). Having a talented tutor like Dmitry Karpov can be fun but requires a lot of potentials to fulfill the daily challenges he gives to his students. The recent one was an 8 hrs workshop with the aim to imagine people using Emoji smile icons in real life. Check the quick results below. Surely it was inspired by French Rosapark's "Innocence et Danger" campaign but goes a little bit crazy.
