BENCHMA(R)C by Klaus Geiger

Old is gold, as proven by German designer Klaus Geiger, who took a few of Apple’s Power Mac G5 and turned them into a series of stylish, modern furniture. Called ‘BENCHMA(®)C, the innovative collection features desks, moving cabinets and other storage compartments. Geiger was inspired to create the series as he felt that the “designs were too good to be disposed”, so he decided to add wood and glass to re-purpose them. via

Patterns of Harmony

"When it comes to sculpture, Gaspar Battha thinks big. His artworks address concepts including the limitations of the mind (envisioned as a physics-defying robotic bird), and humankind's relationship with tools (realized through custom-made screws and screwdrivers). Patterns of Harmony, his Master-project at UdK Berlin, takes this line of inquiry one step further, using a projection-mapped light box to explore the geometric nature of the universe." via A series of angled two-way mirrors forms the bulk of the lightbox, which Battha calls a "fractal of cubes." He maps and projects graphics into the back of the hexagonal sculpture, where "the light gets 'trapped inside' the object," bouncing off the reflective surfaces to form the 3D geometric shapes that viewers experience. Where the kaleidoscopic patterns are reminiscent of Kit Webster's Hypercube sculpture, Patterns of Harmony's geometry warps the mind in its efforts to communicate the mysteries of quantum physics.

Berlin Wall Rebuilt in Glowing Orbs

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall , artists Christopher and Marc Bauder and studio Whitevoid, marked fifteen kilometers of the original route of the Wall. They used over 8,000 light balloons filled with helium to recreate that shameful episode of a history. This project entitled “Lichtgrenze”, “Border of Light” will be installed on November 7, balloons will fly the 9th of November at night. Via Fubiz

Inside Me by Dmitry Zakharov

Cologne-based visual artist Dmitry Zakharov released a pretty awesome animation "Inside Me".

"This project is based on a 3D-scan technique, which allows me to reproduce an image of my own body as a 3D object in a software. It is possible to view this object not just from outside, but also from the inside as a negative as well, which creates abstract shapes.

The coloration was generated with the help of colour data I took from a real picture. The film reflects the invisible inner world of an individual, which owns a small universe in itself, created by experiences and feelings - as well in the digital world as in real life. We try to express ourselves and approach our world another being, but still, nobody can see in our souls entirely.

For me, the process of scanning is a very important part of this work itself. The idea of digitising a body and hence the creation and deformation of its computer generated self, reflects the digital world we live in today. We create an alternative world, in which everybody can be what they want to be. In some way, it resembles to an act of creation. We never stop building more worlds for ourselves, even though there are already various ones encircling us, that we don't even understand yet.

Each universe encloses another, which creates a new one, and the world next to us still seems far away. And so we look into infinity again, which inevitably surrounds us."

Nocturne

Nocturne is a short film about the parallels between the world of dreams and the fictional reality of the digital computer. Following the romanticists' Nocturne as a musical basis, the video shows the transformation of the dancer's conscious state through her sleep and dreams, to her sudden awakening. Traveling Lights

As many other creative studios "We Think Things" has a lot of "geometric leftovers" after branding brainstorms spreading across the computer' disks , and one day guys eventually did a nice shape animation.

We liked the idea of combining simple shapes and then creating a completely new context, only by excluding intersecting shape areas.

In our case – a circle and a triangle became the snowy top of a mountain in front of the sun. With this picture in mind we started developing a minimalistic world, brought to life by the use of ambient noise and a haunting minimalistic score

320° LICHT

The "320° Licht" installation of URBANSCREEN uses the cathedral-like beauty of the Gasometer as the starting point for a fascinating game with shapes and light.Within a radius of 320 degrees graphic patterns grow and change on the 100-metre high inside wall of the Gasometer.

“This experience is based on the vastness of the Gasometer,” sound designer Jonas Wiese told the Creator’s Project. “We tried to work with that expression to make the space bigger and smaller, to deform it and to change its surface over and over while not exaggerating and overwriting the original effect of the room.” He continues, “the age of the screen is coming to an end, digital interfaces will dissolve and merge into the social space [...] we poetically contribute to this through art.”

Nois7

"Robert Jahns, better known as nois7, has casually been manipulating photos to create surreal, impossible situations for some time now. Featured throughout much of his work are cities – bold old and new – infused with extremes, from the frozen canals of Venice to skateboarding the skyline of New York City. While the idea itself is not necessarily new, the execution is very well done, leaving the viewer with a sense of awe." via Highsnobiety nois7-8
