Fantasy Surrealistic Illustrations by Cyril Rolando

September 30, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Illustration, France, Portfolios, 2016

French artist Cyril Rolando creates surreal fantasy universes inspired by Hayao Miyazaki and Tim Burton

“Tim Burton and Hayao Miyazaki are both the roots of my own world. I like the surrealism movement, especially the work of Boris Vian and his ‘Foam of the Daze’ (L’Ecume des jours). I like the absurdity, the creativity and the enchanting universes, where colors bring more emotions than thousands smiles or million tears”

Babeth Lafon illustrations

September 29, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Fashion, France, Illustration, Portfolios, 2016

"Babeth Lafon is a beauty and lifestyle illustrator from Paris currently based in Berlin. Her work is characterised by pastel colours, layers of transparent washes and brushy textures which she creates for fashion magazines, cosmetics packagings and luxury brands." via

“I was born in Paris from French/Vietnamese parents who fled the war in the ‘70s, and as a teen, I’ve always thought of Saigon as my ‘real’ hometown (both my parents were born there).

Until I went backpacking there for a few weeks as a young woman, and realised that Paris was definitely my one and only hometown. I felt like a stranger in Vietnam, much more so than all the constant racism I grew up with in France could ever make me feel.

Still to this day, I have fantasies of tropical windows, sleepy hot afternoons and colourful details mixing up with my actual teenage years memories and obsessions – a mash-up made of bits and pieces from my real teenage bedroom in Paris and a dreamy Saigon, one I’ll never get to see. Now at last, it exists here, and strangely I feel more complete”

Hakanaï projection mapping dance performance by Adrien M and Claire B

August 22, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, France, Portfolios, Motioncollector, TOP 2016, 2016

Hakanaï is a solo choreographic performance that unfolds through a series of images in motion. In Japanese Hakanaï denotes that which is temporary and fragile, evanescent and transient, and in this case something set between dreams and reality. This symbolic relationship is the foundation of the dance composition in which a dancer gives life to a space somewhere between the borders of imagination and reality, through her interactions with the images she encounters. Performed by Adrien M and Claire B (previously) it was debuted in San Francisco few years ago.

JR Installs Two Athletes In Rio

August 03, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Street Art, France, 2016

"The famed French street artist JR has struck again, this time with two giant athlete installations across Rio de Janeiro in anticipation of the upcoming Olympic Games the city will host. Created as part of JR’s ongoing ‘inside out’ project, the pair of athletes are created on the construction scaffolding being used to prepare the city’s buildings ahead of the games. The first athlete, a high jumper, is the 27-year old Sudan-born, Germany-based Mohamed Younes Idriss, who “missed out on qualification for the 2016 rio olympics but he is there some how,” according to JR. The second installation, located near the water, represents a diver jumping into the water." via iGNANT

Floating Piers by Christo and Jean-Claude

June 22, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, France, Photography, 2016
“Perhaps one of the most famous artist couples of the 20th century, Christo and Jean-Claude have become synonymous with larger-than-life fabric installations that usually involve wrapping buildings, trees, even entire cliffs with cloth.”
— Yatzer

The most recent Christo and Jean-Claude project to have been executed is an impressive installation of floating corridors covered with orange cloth in Lake Iseo, Italy. The pair’s first project to be completed after Jean-Claude passed away in 2009, “The Floating Piers” was conceived in the 1970’s and comprises a total of 5.5 kilometres of walkways, 3 km of which float on the water by means of specially-designed polyethylene cubes.

Romain Langlois Sculpture

June 17, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in France, Portfolios, Sculpture, 2016, Art

Romain Langlois is a self-taught French contemporary artist based in La Côte Martin, France. He is known for manipulating natural elements and using bronze sculpture to challenge and shape viewers' perceptions of life, death and the world around them. Langlois uses specialized methods that lead to controlled, relatively fast petrification and crystallization, which continues his theme of questioning nature and human perceptions.

Photography of Thierry Bansront

June 14, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in France, Art, Portfolios, Photography, 2016
“I am primarily a portrait painter, lover of faces and emotions that can restore a look, an expression of body movement. I have a preference for rendering homage to the painting of the neoclassical period. the set of lights and colours that highlight the natural beauty of the models. A style that tries to get away from the dictates of modern representation of women to return to us some form of grace and gentleness.”
