François Beaurain was born in Bordeaux, France in 1976. Francois is a self-taught and multifaceted artist working predominantly as a photographer, but he sometimes extends to drawing, collages and sculptures. Francois is mostly known for his animated gifs project “Monrovia animated” which is part of the “Making Africa” exhibition by Vitra and Guggenheim Bilbao. From January to May 2014, Francois Beaurain wandered the streets of Monrovia and put in animated images the people met and places visited.
Hakanaï is a solo choreographic performance that unfolds through a series of images in motion. In Japanese Hakanaï denotes that which is temporary and fragile, evanescent and transient, and in this case something set between dreams and reality. "The famed French street artist JR has struck again, this time with two giant athlete installations across Rio de Janeiro in anticipation of the upcoming Olympic Games the city will host. Created as part of JR’s ongoing ‘inside out’ project, the pair of athletes are created on the construction scaffolding being used to prepare the city’s buildings ahead of the games. The first athlete, a high jumper, is the 27-year old Sudan-born, Germany-based Mohamed Younes Idriss, who “missed out on qualification for the 2016 rio olympics but he is there some how,” according to JR. The most recent Christo and Jean-Claude project to have been executed is an impressive installation of floating corridors covered with orange cloth in Lake Iseo, Italy. The pair’s first project to be completed after Jean-Claude passed away in 2009, “The Floating Piers” was conceived in the 1970’s and comprises a total of 5.5 kilometres of walkways, 3 km of which float on the water by means of specially-designed polyethylene cubes.
