Pokras Lampas x FENDI

Palazzo Della Civiltà Italiana

Pokras Lampas

Russian Calligrafiturism artist Pokras Lampas spent 500 l of yellow paint, 1250 sq.m of calligraphy for the fabulous "F.. is for Fendi" campaign performed on the top of monumental HQ of Fendi in Rome at Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana (Colosseo Quadrato)

pokras-fendi.jpg
pokras-fendi-1.jpg
pokras-fendi-2.jpg

An official Calligraffiti ambassador (and freak), Pokras Lampas is blurring the frontiers with his brushes and paint buckets. He is one of the most talented modern artists, and is totally rewriting stuff through Calligrafuturism, his personal way of expressing his version of our uber-global and sometimes-crazy world. This globetrotter is also spreading the word about modern calligraphy and collaborating with crazy cool brands and artists.

He realized the biggest Calligraffiti in Italy on FENDI rooftop at Palazzo Della Civiltà Italiana, reinterpreting the F IS FOR…manifesto throughout freedom of expression, art, culture and optimism all around!

Not only he’s a super fly freak – who happens to love Kanye West – but he is also an incredible masterpiece machine. Pokras Lampas captures, creates, interprets and simply makes magic magic.

Totally goosebumps-worthy, his time in Rome with the F is For… crew was so rad, filled with an intense, gigantic-lettered poem, shapes and lines that basically set the standard once again for what we label as authentic talent.

Scarlett Johansson narrates short movie about Jeff Koons

June 16, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Motioncollector, 2017

"What is Jeff Koons‘s art really about? According to a newly released mini-documentary, narrated by none other than Scarlett Johansson, the answer is new things (vacuum cleaners, basketballs, shiny surfaces) and old things (Praxitales, Massacio, and Led Zepplin)."

"The eight-minute video traces the artist’s rise from outsider to art-world giant with a little help from ScarJo’s smoky-voiced narration. The actress, it turns out, is a big fan of the 62-year-old. Directed by Oscar Boyson, the video was produced last spring in collaboration with MOCA"

Conversation

June 15, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Photography, Portfolios, South Korea, 2017

Emmanuel Levinas, a French philosopher, states that Other, dissimilar and incommensurable to oneself, appears to one as a ‘visage’. Though the manifestation of Other’s visage, both natural and inevitable, could seem to one as an unilateral intrusion, it establishes a passage to transcend the outer world from the enclosed inner self as the subject that perceives and embraces the visage. One, therefore, is completed from the responsibility and understanding of Other, ultimately finding one’s true self.

The photography project ‘Conversation’ is a journey that begins from concerns of acquaintances, eventually finding oneself in the process. In the photographs, the space becomes the world where one encounter the Other, and the cloth tossed into the air becomes the medium that draws out one's relationship with Other. Other, as an unsubstantial light flashed into space, actualises when the visage materialises onto the aimlessly tossed cloth, and one’s act of capturing the moment signifies one's conversation with the Other. One finds one’s essence through Other, not just an illusion of light, but as a real existent materialised on a white cloth.

Casey Weldon

June 06, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, USA, 2017

Casey Weldon (previously) crafts surreal, sometimes absurd paintings that play with the everyday and the otherworldly alike. The artist, based in Washington, D.C., is featured in a new show at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. “Sentimental Deprivation” continues the thread of that duality in the artist’s work. The show starts June 3 and runs through June 24

Porcelain busts of Juliette Clovis

May 19, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Sculpture, France, 2017

Bordeaux-based artist Juliette Clovis is back soon after her latest "Porcelain Eggs" series with new 4 Women Busts «Mechanitis Polymnia»,  «Millipora», «Black Baccara» and «Sternocera». This last piece was made by the artist during a residency program at The Insect Museum of Nedde (France). More than 500 jewel beetles’ wings were necessary to make this stunning piece where the incredible colours of these wings strongly contrast with the pureness of the porcelain biscuit.

Western Flag by John Gerrard

May 18, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, 2017

Western Flag (Spindletop, Texas) 2017 depicts the site of the 'Lucas Gusher' - the world's first major oil find - in Spindletop, Texas in 1901, now barren and exhausted. John Gerrard has recreated the site as a digital simulation and placed at its centre a flagpole bearing a flag of perpetually-renewing pressurised black smoke. The computer generated Spindletop runs in exact parallel with the real site in Texas throughout the year: the sun rising at the appropriate times and the days getting longer and shorter according to the seasons. The simulation is non-durational (having no beginning or end) and is run live by software that is calculating each frame of the animation in real time as it is needed.

Ball-point pen art by Alfredo Chamal

May 17, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Illustration, Mexico, Portfolios, 2017

Visual artists from Mexico - Alfredo Chamal uses simple ball-point pen to create his photo realistic artworks. This medium is nothing new and used by prominent contemporary artists like Jan Fabre or famous illustrator Juan Casas . As for Alfredo it's a new way to reveal psychorealistic art that's rolling on in Mexico right now

Super Power Tools by naïf artist Stacy Lovejoy

May 15, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, USA, Portfolios, 2017

Artist Stacy Lovejoy’s newest sculpture series “Super Power Tools” combines vibrant colours and simple shapes, inspiring viewers to harness the carefree and adventurous spirit of childhood. Stacy channels her inner child and love for whimsy to communicate childlike abandon and lust for life through installations, paintings, sculpture and performance art. Her ability to convey the essence of youth through multiple mediums seems driven by her connection to honesty and spontaneity: an artistic expression of the desire to remain forever young.

From her studio in Portland, OR, Stacy creates a variety of art which aligns well with the neo-pop, futurism and contemporary faux naïf genres. Her history includes drawing from a very young age, and continuously seeking new ways in which to artistically express her joy and concurrently inspire others to lie authentically through reigniting the glittering excitement and insatiable curiosity inherent in young children.

“Creating art takes me back to my childhood - that time when you admire water drops which sparkle in a sunny ray; seek funny characters in a rug; giggle over your puddle reflection and smile when a gentle wind tickles your cheeks. A time when you are happy-go-lucky, sensitive, almighty, and sometimes naive, but always genuine. I am an eternal child and art allows me to maintain this state of being”
— Stacy Lovejoy
THERMOMETER-OF-AWAKENING-STACY_LOVEJOY.jpg
ARROW-OF-EVOLUTION-STACY_LOVEJOY2.jpg
ELIXIR-OF-EUPHORIA-STACY_LOVEJOY.jpg

Through this mindset, Stacy aims to inspire others to create their own reality and utilise their freedom of choice to foster artistic and intellectual curiosity with a penchant for experimentation and adventure.

Super Power Tools

“Super Power Tools” is composed of 17 pieces fashioned primarily from acrylic on plywood, which exhibit a multitude of influences: mother nature makes a strong appearance, with a repeating theme of foliage and flower petals in variegating color schemes, plumage of winged creatures, and mystical patterns reflecting majestic creatures; conversely, the installations reference to tools shines through in pieces like Programming Book of a Goal Achievement and Fan Spreader of Spontaneity, which tout markings and shapes that call to mind protractors, measuring tapes, and grandfather clocks. This dichotomy of nature and spontaneity, melded with structured implements from the man-made world, seems to explore Stacy’s desire to cultivate a return to the childlike state for those who view her art, urging them to let go of stifling stress and seriousness and breathe in “Super Power Tools” to unleash the silliness and wonderment of youth.

The Next Rembrandt

May 10, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Art, Netherlands, 2017

It’s been almost four centuries since the world lost the talent of one its most influential classical painters, Rembrandt van Rijn. That's clear world will never see another new piece from him even there were numerous hoax and fakes done during the last century. But what happens when tech minds step in the game? Having Microsoft and ING at their back, researchers, curators and developers from Museum Het Rembrandthuis, TU Delft and Mauritshuis created an AI that has generated a "new" Rembrandt painting by gathering and using data from all of his art legacy.

The Vanity by Murray Fredericks

Hamiltons Gallery
May 09, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Photography, Portfolios, Australia, 2017

"Australian photographer Murray Fredericks’ long relationship with Lake Eyre, where his most recent series Vanity has been produced, commenced in 2003, and to date consists of twenty journeys to the centre of the lake where he photographs for weeks at a time in the vast and infinite landscape. Fredericks is not interested in documenting the literal forms of the landscape. He views the landscape as medium in itself which, when represented in a photograph, has the potential to convey the emotional quality of his experience and relationship to the lake."

“The mirror can be seen as emblematic of our obsession with ourselves, individually, and collectively. In the ‘Vanity’ series, rather than reflecting our own ‘surface’ image, the mirror is positioned to draw our gaze out and away from ourselves, into the environment, driving us towards an emotional engagement with light, colour and space”

Hand-painted Persian Carpets by Jason Seife

May 03, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, USA, Portfolios, 2017

In this new series of paintings, Miami-based artist Jason Seife deftly renders the intricate patterns of old Persian carpets with a mixture of acrylic and ink. While the paintings utilize familiar motifs in rug design like leaves and geometric shapes, Seife introduces colors not normally associated with the heavy textiles, creating his own interpretations that reflect his mood or thoughts while executing the painting.

Photorealism of John Kacere (1920 - 1999)

April 28, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, USA, 2017

"John C. Kacere was an American artist. Originally an abstract expressionist, Kacere adopted a photorealist style in 1963. Nearly all of his photorealist paintings depict the midsection of the female body. The kitsch paintings make for pleasurable viewing, not least for the sexually-charged subject matter. John’s incredibly tuned hyperreal style lends itself to the flawless skin of the idealised Caucasian bodies he paints as well as it does to the slippery silk and satin folds of lingerie and bedsheets. As the curve of each woman’s hips builds a terrain across each canvas, the scantily-clad female form becomes a landscape of sexual possibility."

"50 years on, John’s work feels more contemporary than ever: were the paintings the photos they imitate, it’s easy to picture them riding high on fourth-wave feminism Tumblr and Instagram feeds."
