Paintings by Alec Huxley

Paintings of figures dressed in business attire wearing space helmets that alludes to some sort of narrative, while also combining the architecture of San Francisco with fantasy and film noir. That is Alec Huxley

It all began when I bought a Soviet space helmet on eBay. I was playing around with a bunch of space-themed work for my first show at D-Structure and painted two pieces in that style. Something in the cinematic and graphic look just clicked with me, so I started to explore it more.

Drawings by Alex Konahin

Latvia-based artist Alex Konahin creates extraordinarily ornate, detailed and beautiful drawings like these using just pencils, pens and india ink. We did a review on his works year ago covering his art done not only by classic materials but even personal blood. For now please check his latest painstakingly intricate series of floral insects and other creatures.

Synchrodogs

Tania Shcheglova and Roman Noven are two emerging photographers who have been experimenting with high quality cameras since their perhaps not-so-innocent youth. From frozen lakes to empty theatre stages across Eastern Europe, the duo have snapped haunting images of the surroundings available to them, often emanating a dark or eerie mood. http://www.synchrodogs.com/

Would Kazimir Malevich Get into Art School Today?

A prank video shows an “art student” meticulously copying the Suprematist works of Kazimir Malevich for a portfolio, then going around and showing his work for admission to a number of art academies under the anagrammatical name of Michael Mikrivaz. This prank’s conceit: that Malevich, or “Mikrivaz,” would be rejected by today’s art establishment, or something. via

Yes, by Helmut Newton and you are not reading Designcollector Back to the Future digest. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its annual calendar, tire company Pirelli has made the decision to release a set of vintage Helmut Newton portraits from 1986 for its 2014 calendar. Mirrored Infinity Rooms by Yayoi Kusama

In Infinity Mirrored Room installation by Yayoi Kusama ( 'I Who Have Arrived In Heaven' Exhibition at David Zwirner Art Gallery ), hundreds of multicoloured LED lights, suspended at different heights and dangling from floor to ceiling, transform a room into what feels like eternity. The cube-shaped, mirror-paneled room has a shallow reflecting pool as its floor and the lights flicker on and off in a strobe-like effect.

Hercules XIII tablet stand by Scott Eaton

You might have seen recent buzz about Lady Gaga's life-size sculpture made in collaboration of Scott Eaton and Jeff Koons. Creepy but that's pop culture. Let's switch to the latest work of Scott - Hercules XIII tablet stand - the second of its type after "The Venus of Cupertino". It features oversized Hercules (hence we call oatmeal in Russia by this greek name of the famous half-god) holding any tablet with an outstanding grace. If you like them both you will definitely appreciate their collide in Venus Lamp shown below :)

Aleksandra Domanović

Aleksandra Domanović deals with sculpture that echoes monuments from the past from her native (former) Yugoslavia. While some sculptures take on more traditional forms of post-Communist leaders, the Berlin-based artist also began experimenting with unique materials in her work. 19:30 Stacks was created by piling size A3 and A4 paper with photos printed on their sides with ink-jet printing. First creating a massive PDF file of a photo, Domanović set the printer to ‘border-less print’ setting, which coated the ends of each paper, and when stacked upon each other, revealed the finished image. aleksandradomanovic-8

From the Knees of my Nose to the Belly of my Toes

"Created by British designer Alex Chinneck, this fun intervention creates the illusion that a brick facade has melted right off the side of a building and into the front yard. Titled From the Knees of my Nose to the Belly of my Toes, the piece was installed in the English seaside town of Margate, and the artist chose to present it without any identifying information, leaving locals amused and scratching their heads."

Experimental Art of Chad Wys

”My artwork is also, at its core, an experimentation in composition, color, and form,” says Wys. “Through a variety of mixed media I have chosen as my inspiration a color palette that is at times complimentary and at other times purposfully contradictory, or seemingly destructive. The literal destruction of an object is secondary, in my mind, to the overall effect created by color (dis)harmony and the overall aesthetic-emotional experience of the reclaimed and reinvented object. I openly play with the allure of foreign and aggressive new colors and forms, inviting them into otherwise familiar and traditional settings. Barriers and obstacles are thereby erected between the viewer and the object through which one must negotiate an understanding of what is both present and hidden. What does the creation of new meaning tell us about old meanings, or meaning in general?” http://www.chadwys.com/
