Supernova is an experimental 4K art film directed and designed by Maxim Zhestkov. Everything around and inside us was conceived in a huge explosion of a star billions of years ago… and, probably, recycled from other matrices myriad times. In this eternal carousel of matter, particles gather, form complicated structures and then burst into all directions fusing atoms together and producing new elements and points of view, new colours and patterns of perception. Explosions could be perceived as a destructive force and the process of tearing previously formed matter apart and, therefore, could have negative connotations; however, fundamentally, only the process of breaking familiar structures and rearranging them into new, more sophisticated shapes could kindle new meanings and ideas and be the main creative force forming the future. In the art film, we made computer simulations with millions of particles to explore the behaviour and the beauty of the creative force of destruction. The art film was initiated as the title sequence for FITC 2019 / Amsterdam and produced by www.Zhestkov.Studio. OFFF 2019 Open Film

May 03, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, OFFF, Motioncollector

Our second encounter with OFFF Festival was in 2009 where Prologue then lead by Ilya Abulkhanov presented event’s Main Titles in a sci-fi post-soviet “Kin-dza-dza” way. Little did we know that 10 years later, now Mill+ director, Ilya, will be invited to present 15-minutes “ARXIV”, a post human drama and indeed a continuation of original 2009 short movie.

ARXIV is an immersive sci-fi family drama is set in two time frames: the deep future, that is left with no future, and the near future, that will bring about the eventual dystopian collapse of society. Protagonist Lew Aron survives both time frames and is set to discover a potential outlet to confront his innermost desire, or what’s left of it.

Now in its 19th year, OFFF is regarded as one of the world’s most influential creativity festivals. OFFF consists of three-days of conferences, workshops, activities, and performances. It takes place in Barcelona annually, before appearing around the world as ‘OFFF on Tour’ with the next happens in Moscow

“South Korean artist Kwang Young Chun wraps tiny geometric packages in paper and combines them into massive wall-mounted and freestanding assemblages. Each composition is composed of thousands of individual mulberry paper parcels, carefully toned with tea and pigment and including the abstracted characters that allude to the paper’s origins as old documents. The works, which Chun refers to as ‘agreggations’, feature gradations in color and smooth craters within their highly textured surfaces.”

Andrew Hem

April 23, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Illustration, Portfolios, USA

“Los Angeles-based artist Andrew Hem (previously) paints stylised scenes of solitary figures caught in moments of motion, introspection, and reverence. While integrated into their surroundings through carefully modulated color palettes, the figures’ floating poses and distant expressions suggest a dreamlike state. In an artist statement, Hem cites an early interest in graffiti as informing his current narrative style, which he creates with a combination of gouache, oil, and acrylic paint.”

In a surreal future, humanity has been transformed beyond any and all recognition by the echo chambers of social media. Shot entirely on iPhone 7 in the Montréal underground, FILTRATE is an exploration of digital connectivity and physical isolation. BEHIND THE SCENES: https://vimeo.com/325916864/8d380f2e65 World Premiere // 2018 Fantasia Film Festival US Premiere // 2019 Slamdance Film Festival Gallery Exhibition // Centre Never Apart - Montreal, QC WWW.FILTRATE.FILM —- Dans un futur surréel, les chambres d’écho de nos réseaux sociaux actuels divisent l’humanité en espèces disparates. Enfouis sous terre parmi un univers vaste et déserté, cinq personnages tentent de se connecter. Tourné entièrement sur iPhone 7 dans le métro Montréalais, FILTRATE est une exploration de la connectivité numérique et de l’isolation physique.

Filtrate

April 22, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Motioncollector

A new short film titled FILTRATE imagines a future completely saturated with technology, where post-human figures interact using rune-like symbols on immersive social media platforms. The film, directed by Mishka Kornai, was created in the public spaces of Montréal’s underground Metro transit system.

“If people retreat into smaller and more idiosyncratic groups, what will the evolutionary trajectory of our society look like? As social groups diverge further and further over the course of generations, when does humanity cease to be just one species?”
WATCH THE FILM: https://vimeo.com/328695563 WATCH THE PROCESS: "A Movement Underground In Eight Parts" by Anna Maria Trudel https://vimeo.com/325578170 ————- The project took over two years to complete, with 43 days of guerilla shooting in the active metro system of Montreal, six months of costume building, and over a year of post production. The film was captured entirely on iPhone 7 using only a wheelchair, a monopod, and a handheld stabilizer. What began as just a short film evolved into something much larger, combining guerrilla filmmaking, performance art, original costume, still photography, and urban exploration. While living in Montreal, director Mishka Kornai, costume designer Odette Mattha, and cinematographer Luke Orlando chose the city’s metro system as the central inspiration for a collaborative project. Each station, designed by a different architect, possesses its own distinct aesthetic, forming a network that is simultaneously interconnected and starkly differentiated like the internet today. Enlisting a team of local dancers, filmmakers, and artists, they created a surreal post-human future and the imaginative beings who populate it.

Neon Through the Looking-Glass

April 15, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019, Hong-Kong, Photography, Portfolios, Russia
“People see you and do not see you at the same time. They are focused on their affairs, in their own unusual world. They seem to feel the fluctuation of reality from your presence, from changing the position of the sun, the angle of view, architecture or scenery. But at the same time, it does not matter at all in comparison with their own world and affairs. It’s like going through the looking glass. The world is changing from a different perspective. ”
