Man in space - 50 years. First Orbit movie

April 11, 2011 by Arseny Vesnin

Exactly 50th years ago one person and a huge state research system reshaped the World. That was Yuri Gagarin and USSR Cosmic programme. And he said: "Поехали!" ([Pau'ye'khalee'] "Let's go!") then he inspired generations...

To celebrate this date British Dr Christopher Riley in a unique collaboration with the European Space Agency, and the Expedition 26/27 crew of the International Space Station, have created a new film "First Orbit" of what Gagarin first witnessed fifty years ago. With the help of astronauts and newly installed giant cupola window they recreated the scene possibly seen by Yuri during the flight.

Trash Calendar

April 09, 2011 by Arseny Vesnin in Graphic Design, Portfolios, Ukraine

Yurko Gutsulyak created a nice calendar where every day is a new trash bag an every month is a roll of 31, 30 or 28 trash bags. The Trash Calendar consists of 12 rolls and is divided into 4 quarterly sets with 3 months-rolls. The date is printed on every bag so that you can see it when the bag is placed into the trash bin. We hope the idea can go further with more environmental amends and eco-friendly options like changing plastic for paper with using non-toxic inks. Anyway, the concept is well done and inspiring.

Continuum: user-generated fashion

April 06, 2011 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Fashion, Portfolios

Continuum is a user-generated fashion collection designed by Mary Huang. We can call it a computational couture. It is the application of interactive technologies for bespoke design.

In short, an app lets you draw a dress, turns it into a 3D model, and exports a cutting pattern to make the real dress, sized to your measurements. A laser cutter or plotter cuts the pattern out of fabric, which is then sewn into the dress. All the designs are unified around the theme of the little black dress, and the triangulation used in the software. This allows basically everyone to create their own innovative dress design.
