February 08, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, USA, Portfolios, Photography, 2017

Sam Cannon is an artist and director based in NYC. Her personal work focuses on the manipulation of time, space, and the human form. Living somewhere between still photography and video, her images explore the way we interact with never-ending moments in the age of the 15 second clip.

Sam has also used her gif art for advocacy. She has been involved with anti-bullying campaigns, and recently used gif art to create portraits of young muslim women breaking stereotype.

Abstract - The Art Of Design

January 20, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Graphic Design, USA, Motioncollector, 2017

Netflix will premier a new original documentary series, Abstract: The Art of Design, that introduces the work and creative process of eight leading designers (and yes it will air on Netflix Russia too, starting on 10th of February). The series is produced by Wired’s editor-in-chief Scott Dadich, Morgan Neville and Dave O’Connor. Each programme will focus on a different individual, the subjects are: Bjarke Ingels (architect), Christoph Niemann (illustrator), Es Devlin (stage designer), Ilse Crawford (interior designer), Paula Scher (graphic designer), Platon (photographer), Ralph Gilles (automobile designer) and Tinker Hatfield (Nike shoe designer).

“I can guess what you’re thinking, because I have watched a lot of design documentaries. Restrained, polished, pretty—so many of them look like a moving version of a coffee table book. You’ve got softly lit interviews, esoteric conversations, and subtle tracking shots of wide landscapes beneath unobtrusive music. Most of it is clean, minimal, and boring as hell. We’re not doing that. My partners and fellow executive producers—Morgan Neville (who won an Oscar for 20 Feet From Stardom) and RadicalMedia’s Dave O’Connor—and I built a team of today’s best-known documentarians. Every episode stands as its own film, adapting the design sensibilities of our subjects.”
— Scott Dadich, Wired

P.s If you are totally in it than you have all chances to meet design gurus in life on festivals like OFFF Barcelona, FITC, Toca Me... Hurry up, tic-toc

Signs of the Time by Walead Beshty

January 11, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, USA, 2017

"In this intriguing sculptural series spanning 2005 to 2014, LA-based artist Walead Beshty packaged his artworks in FedEx boxes and shipped them across the country to exhibitions and galleries. But unlike most artists who utilize every bit of care to protect and pad their artwork from the inevitable rough handling of mail carriers, Beshty designed his pieces to break. For his famous FedEx works he constructed laminate glass objects that fit seamlessly within the dimensions of standard size shipping boxes. Through the “normal” handling the objects would inevitably crack and shatter and it was up to curators and gallerists to carefully remove each piece for display. The fragile volumes were then given titles that specifically mention the date, tracking number, and box size of shipment."

Art of Andrew Hem

December 19, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, USA, 2016

“Unknown Terrain”  is a culmination of Andrew Hem's imaginative view of the world.  In his show statement, Hem shares his personal goal of painting the Seven Wonders of the World by the time he is thirty years old. Here, he portrays sites like the Grand Canyon and Mount Everest, recreating the experience of seeing them as an emotional one, rather than capturing their physical reality. Although these are famous places, many of them are out of reach or facing the threats of industry, becoming “unknown” to future generations.

Art of Nicomi Nix Turner

December 19, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Illustration, USA, Portfolios, 2016

Graphite art of Nicomi Nix Turner is filled up with occult symbols. Creating detailed illustrations that invoke a surreal understanding of the perfection in nature, her works delve into the occult and the connections between alchemy, mythology, decay and birth. Her hyper-detailed illustrations capture the coexistence of life and decay in a bouquet of fungi, personified insects, bones, flesh and fauna.

Elena Miska

December 15, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Advertising, Graphic Design, USA, Portfolios, 2016

Elena Miska is a New York based art director who’s just hit refresh on her website to include new works

“I’m a graphic designer and art director living in Brooklyn, but am originally from the Bay Area in California. My whole life revolved around art and dance, and I actually went to school for a year at SUNY Purchase here in NY, but had to move back to California after a dance-related injury. (It was actually a blessing in disguise – I will always love dance, but ended up finding my calling in design.) I got my degree in Graphic Design from Academy of Art University, and worked for a few years in San Francisco doing design and art direction before moving back to New York a year and a half ago with my husband, Tom. We’re both in the same profession, and agreed that NY was the place to be (we were right!).”
