Currents by GMUNK

January 30, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Motioncollector, USA, 2017

Pioneer of digital renaissance his majesty GMUNK or just mr. G Munkowitz is back with a new installation called "CURRENTS". This Lightform Sculpture was created by the dream team of himself, architect Lorenzo Vianello, projection mapping wizard Philip Reyneri and motion graphics ace Peter Call Me The Clark.

The ‘Currents’ Lightform Sculpture was created by the dream team of Mr. G Munkowitz, Architect Lorenzo Vianello, Projection Mapping Wizard Philip Reyneri and Motion Graphics Ace Peter Call Me The Clark. The concept behind the piece was to visualize Magnetic Fields within the medium of practical sculpture, essentially visualizing a series of line work reliefs as charges from Positive to Negative poles. This in effect created a highly organic, flowing set of dynamic curves generated by algorithms using the procedural software Grasshopper. The faces of the resulting geometry were dotted with small holes of varying sizes to complete the Morphological Hierarchy of flowing curves and a dotted three-dimensional pattern. This geometry was then assigned structure, relief and form, and was CNC Milled out of a Foam base material, creating a lush and highly detailed three-dimensional form. The sculpture was then hung as a two piece pair on the gallery walls, and projection mapped with a 5 minute motion graphic loop, which traced and filled all the dots and lines adorning the sculpture - creating a vibrant optical illusion of depth and movement. A complimentary and quite moody 5 minute audio loop was then created and emitted out of an embedded speaker within the design, creating a rich sonic navigation in the space and conceiving an Audio/Visual interaction between the audience and the artwork. Pause 2017 Opening Titles

January 24, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Australia, Motioncollector, 2017

This year's theme of Melbourne-based Pause festival is "Different Perspective" starting in February. For massive opening titles (for somehow revealed before the start) they invited Chinese CG artist Zaoeyo

“The whole idea was inspired by an anime called “Digimon Adventure”, whose opening scenes show the different angle of a night city and digital creatures. Therefore, we decide to focus on a different angle or perspective of empty cities, to express a feeling of isolation, despite the fact we live in these spaces. The idea of using a cat for guidance is borrowed from an indie game called “HK”, which will enhance the feeling of isolation between human and their environment. Also this is all CGi made in Cinema 4D with Octane Render.”

To celebrate the U.S. Basketball team going for the Gold, we partnered with Nike Brand Design and Golden Wolf to create one-of-kind boutique retail experience, re-launching an equally unique shoe: The Nike Air Foamposite One. This larger-than-life, digital sneaker box projected 4 sides of Air Foamposite One-inspired animation, visible from as far as the Bay Bridge. Inside, Sneakerheads were greeted with trick-of-the-eye wall-sized animations and 20 years of Foamposite history right beneath their feet, suspended under clear acrylic floors. The walls of the space mirrored and magnified the other-worldly contours of the shoe itself, while stalactite-like cases hung from the ceiling, revealing the newly released kicks. Plays of black and white, light and dark, glossy and matte gave the space a futuristic, yet timeless quality: part spaceship, part dream, here one moment and gone the next.

Abstract - The Art Of Design

January 20, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Graphic Design, USA, Motioncollector, 2017

Netflix will premier a new original documentary series, Abstract: The Art of Design, that introduces the work and creative process of eight leading designers (and yes it will air on Netflix Russia too, starting on 10th of February). The series is produced by Wired’s editor-in-chief Scott Dadich, Morgan Neville and Dave O’Connor. Each programme will focus on a different individual, the subjects are: Bjarke Ingels (architect), Christoph Niemann (illustrator), Es Devlin (stage designer), Ilse Crawford (interior designer), Paula Scher (graphic designer), Platon (photographer), Ralph Gilles (automobile designer) and Tinker Hatfield (Nike shoe designer).

Meet eight of the most creative thinkers and imaginative minds working in the world of art and design today in the new Netflix original documentary series, Abstract: The Art of Design. Journey through their creative process, explore their work, and discover how their innovative designs have profoundly affected our every day lives.
“I can guess what you’re thinking, because I have watched a lot of design documentaries. Restrained, polished, pretty—so many of them look like a moving version of a coffee table book. You’ve got softly lit interviews, esoteric conversations, and subtle tracking shots of wide landscapes beneath unobtrusive music. Most of it is clean, minimal, and boring as hell. We’re not doing that. My partners and fellow executive producers—Morgan Neville (who won an Oscar for 20 Feet From Stardom) and RadicalMedia’s Dave O’Connor—and I built a team of today’s best-known documentarians. Every episode stands as its own film, adapting the design sensibilities of our subjects.”
— Scott Dadich, Wired

P.s If you are totally in it than you have all chances to meet design gurus in life on festivals like OFFF Barcelona, FITC, Toca Me... Hurry up, tic-toc

Light Masonry by Jason Bruges

January 19, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, United Kingdom, Motioncollector, 2017

Leading light installation artist Jason Bruges was approached by Arts Council England, to make a piece for Illuminating York event went in 2016. The Festival encourages visitors to explore and discover the city through the imagination of artists, using the medium of light in all its forms.

Light Masonry is an epic, site specific, light installation based in the main nave of York Minster. The artwork is founded on the construct of creating a secondary layer of dynamic, temporal and ephemeral architecture sculptured from light. Inspired by the continuous crafting and iterating of the layers of work by the Minster’s stonemasons, the studio has investigated the relationship between the vaults, light and the audience. Drawing upon the ceremonial nature of the space, the studio has created a synchronized procession of light that highlights and explores the nave as a choreographed architectural experience. The art installation inscribes the perimeter of the main nave and is constructed from a bespoke system of 48 computer controlled Icon Beam moving head luminaires, animating a dynamic light architecture around the atmospheric volumes of the nave. The piece is immersive and complimented by the soundscape of Intervallo by Arvo Pärt, performed by John Bradbury and Benjamin Morris the Minsters organists.

‘Splendor of Existence’ is a movie that aims to engender wonder and inspiration by drifting you through a vast dreamlike sea of tranquility.  Headphones & Full Screen Recommended Process: acrylic paint, oil, milk, & soap. Four months in the making Voice Over: Ross Huguet Music: Our Hope - Stefano Mocini Producer/Author: Apostolos Stefanopoulos Edit: Sean Tracy Shot with Canon 5D Mark iii EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM Lens Inspired by the beautiful works of various philosophers, physicists, & spiritualists - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “Men admire the mountain heights, the coursing rivers, the orbits of the stars…. and yet neglect themselves. It is forgotten that you are a function of this universe, the enteral thing that comes and goes. When will you begin to live virtuously? One mustn’t merely flirt with the idea. Yet today we think that those who live as they teach are dreamers. A person, therefore, must claim his existence whatever it is—ugly or beautiful, wicked or mischievous—that is the beginning of virtue. After all, what is it that most of us seek? If we strip ourselves of words and phrases, and systems with what are we actually left? Perhaps being, perfect in its shifting transience. You see, it all lives in the mystery of the present revelation. That is what we live for. The free will, the action, and the creation. The illusion comes when we abstract ourselves from the notion that it is odd that things do exist. As you cannot step into the same river twice, you cannot live the same moment again. It is the now that matters most. Awaken to the fact that the future is meaningless as is the past. It starts now. Not before. Not after. Is it not ironic that you are searching for yourself? Yet you have been here like an orphaned child? This strange feeling comes because you have yet to introduce yourself to your life. You cannot spectate, always watching but never engaging. Though, that is how most choose to go about living. You are human, with all the happiness and sorrow accompanying your fate. But let there be no hang-up, all life is in endless contrast and flux. There is nothing to be fundamentally afraid of. Possibly, the irreversibility of time awakens you. Death follows you like an omnipresent shade. Fear enters your mind like a dark cloud, but you must see past, that darkness will never triumph over light, always. For death is but an extension of the self, as are love and happiness. Once the terror of being alone is forsaken, there is nothing to fear at all. We rest our bodies once and live forever. You are undoubtedly embedded in the fabric of the universe. The instant you can forgive and forget all is the moment you will let the universe be in you, after all, a cup is useful only when it is empty, and a mind that is filled with dogmas is an uncreative mind. Beyond the physics, the philosophy and the art of living, fundamentally, your interpretation means most. The most beautiful thing of all: the experience that is truly yours forever and ever. There is a face that you need to wake up to: the universe is your very own, allow the mind to be exposed as is light when seen through a prism. The illusions crumble, reality a sphere and your point of view never center. You are never you, but a constant drama of energy and delight. Therefore, let it be known that today you stood for something your eyes believed, your heart felt, and your mind understood. Let that be you and say with confidence: I was fortunate to understand what they did not.”

The abstract space captures the essence of motion, colour and sound to visualize the experience of letting go and losing oneself in the creative process. "Synaesthesia and abandonment form the basis of a new digital art installation called Collide, created by design studio onformative. To convey these sensations, the studio took recorded motion data and transformed it into surreal animations and audio. For the visuals, they searched through archival motion data from various dance genres and turned the movements into colors and forms, abstracting them from their usual spatial constraints." via TCP

Outlines by TUNDRA

December 18, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Digital Art, Motioncollector, TOP 2016, 2016

Produced by Russian arts collective TUNDRA, this gigantic grid of hundreds of red lasers was supposed to be featured in Moscow's OUTLINE FESTIVAL. However, after the festival was abruptly canceled due to undisclosed circumstances, the massive installation shown at Day for Night in Houston in a recent days.

from Alexander Sinitsa Instagram

“It’s about everyone’s individual perception of reality, their life background, circumstances, and social status, all this stuff creates fictional boundaries that aren’t there actually; laser beams create a grid that is visible, but you can cross it if you want.”
— TUNDRA
TUNDRA’s newest immersive experience is a large scale laser-beams installation which went unseen to public due to cancellation of Outline Festival in Moscow where it was initially planned to be exhibited. As it was specially created for this festival, we decided to name it OUTLINES. This word has a strong meaning in Russian representing the idea of stepping out of an initial grid and rising above the fundamentals by trespassing your imaginary boundaries. Special thanks to Alexander Us & Sila Sveta for inviting us to take part in Outline festival 2016. And thanks to everyone who helped us: Dmirtry Znamensky, Isabelle Rousset, Viktor Kudryashov, Maxim Harin, Roman Pechorin, Kapitolina Tcvetkova-Plotnikova, Semyon Zlotsky. A custom tunnel iteration of this installation will be premiered and first shown to public at Day For Night festival in Houston, Texas, from December 16th to 18th. www.dayfornight.io facebook.com/tunddra www.wearetundra.com Behance - https://www.behance.net/gallery/43192493/Outlines

Art of Science by Sila Sveta

December 14, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Agencies, Motioncollector, TOP 2016, 2016, Russia

Sila Sveta produced one of the largest video projection made on the façade of the unique architectural landmark - the main tower of Moscow State University at the Vorobyovy Hills. The projected area covered over 50 000 square meters and was over 0.5 km long, 212 projectors were used for the show.

Projection show on the facade of the Moscow State University was presented at the Moscow International Festival "Circle of Light". The history of the university, scientific discoveries and legends associated with the "world of science" — all these were shown to the audience on September 23, 24 and 25, 2016. The largest ever video projection was presented on the façade of a unique architectural landmark, the main tower of Moscow State University at the Vorobyovy Hills. The large-scale project gave us a unique experience: the projected area covered over 50 000 square meters and was over 0.5 km long, 212 projectors were used for the show. The dynamic 9-minute multimedia story is not only a fascinating piece about the Moscow State University's history, but an artwork representing contemporary styles of abstract graphics. The show was created in partnership with LBL Communications Group — the authorized organizer of the festival by the order of the Government of Moscow. General partner of the MSU location of the "Circle Of Light" festival — PJSC "Sberbank".
