Portraits by Tim Okamura

December 16, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Canada, Illustration, Portfolios, 2015, Art

Stunning mixed media portraits from Canadian artist Tim Okamura. Okamura “investigates identity, the urban environment, metaphor, and cultural iconography through a unique method of painting – one that combines an essentially ‘realist’ approach to the figure with collage, spray paint and mixed media.”

A 100-Year-Old Church in Spain Transformed into a Skate Park Covered in Murals by Okuda San Miguel

December 16, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, Interior Design, Portfolios, Spain, Street Art, 2015, Art

"Originally designed by Asturian architect Manuel del Busto in 1912, the church of Santa Barbara in Llanera, Asturias, was abandoned for years and crumbling from neglect. Luckily, a group of enterprising individuals lead by a collective called the ‘Church Brigade,’ with help from online fundraising and Red Bull, the church was salvaged and turned into a public skate park dubbed Kaos Temple.

As if having a skate park inside a beautiful abandoned church wasn’t enough, artist Okuda San Miguel was commissioned to cover the walls and vaulted ceilings with his unique brand of colorful geometric figures." via Colossal

Liquified Rainbow Portraits By Brian Donnelly

December 11, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Canada, Illustration, Portfolios, Glitch, 2015

"Toronto-based artist Brian Donnelly uses turpentine and hand sanitizer to melt the faces of his portraits into rainbow rivers. Inspired by an interest in human identity and vulnerability, Donnelly paints from real life, portraying features of his subjects with realistic precision. He then allows the artworks’ colors to run, distorting the portraits’ faces."via

Tea Set ‘Screen Mutations‘ by Louisa Zahareas

December 10, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Design, Portfolios, 2015

Designer Louisa Zahareas creates an optical illusion with her custom tea set ( the designer worked with computational geometry expert, Dianne Hansford). Says Zaharea of the idea behind the "Screen Mutations" project, “I wanted it to be humorous and light, but at the same time point to a real issue. How far are we willing to go to distort physical reality with how we are presenting ourselves on the web?”

Art of Alonsa Guevara Aliaga

December 02, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, USA, 2015

Alonsa Guevara lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. "If the painting doesn't make you wonder or try to find a mystery or when a person just looks at something and it's too easy to understand or it doesn't make you feel something in your heart, of course it's not successful."

Monica Rohan's Textiles in Art

November 30, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Australia, Illustration, Portfolios, 2015, Art

"Floating transcendence and anchored realism share equal magnitude in Monica Rohan’s paintings. Inspired by a rural-idyll of a childhood in South East Queensland and the internal longing of the 19th century novel, Rohan reflects on the genre of autobiography through a mysterious form of self portraiture. Allowing her imagination free rein, Rohan represents the figure in a variety of emotional roles and physical states. Using space as a striking pictorial device, her female subject is positioned in adventurous settings, endlessly floating or falling, climbing or reclining, hunting or hiding." via

Hyper realism by Joel Rea

November 27, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Australia, Portfolios, TOP 2015, 2015

Australian artist Joel Rea creates photorealistic paintings of natural landscapes and fantastical scenes with a surreal touch. What’s especially impressive is how he manages to paint waves in a way that seem to bring them alive. Rea, who calls himself a ‘contemporary surrealist painter’, often puts himself into his own paintings. via iGNANT

November 26, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Architecture, Art, France, Portfolios, TOP 2015, 2015

Cambridge’s King’s College Chapel unites the old and the new, the spiritual and scientific – literally so with the “Dear World… Yours, Cambridge” projection. This project by Miguel Chevalier set up in “immersive projection” in the chapel that showed images relating to the many fields of the University of Cambridge, from literature to astrophysics.

Miguel Chevalier is a Mexico City-born artist who lives in Paris. He works exclusively with computers. Since 1980’s, he has created “many projects variously incorporating generative and interactive virtual reality installations projected on large scale, shown on Leds screen or LCD screen, sculptures created with a 3D printer or with laser cut, holographic imagery and other forms.”

New Murals on Icebergs by Hula

November 26, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Portfolios, Street Art, 2015

Environmental artist HULA known for his series of water murals moves further and takes icebergs with paint and faith. Check artist statement “Series of murals painted on a few of the thousands of icebergs freshly broken off from a nearby glacier. In the short time I was there, I witnessed the extreme melting rate first hand as the sound of ice cracking was a constant background noise while painting. Within a few weeks these murals will be forever gone, but for those who find them, I hope they ignite a sense of urgency, as they represent the millions of people in need of our help who are already being affected from the rising sea levels of Climate Change.”

Infinity Room by Refik Anadol

November 19, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Digital Art, Motioncollector, Portfolios, TOP 2015, Turkey, 2015

"Los Angeles based Turkish artist Refik Anadol wants us to slow down and make technology into something we consciously see and feel..His most recent installation, titled the “Infinity Room” at Zorlu Performing Art Center in Turkey, is a trippy, black and white installation that uses audio and visual stimulation to alter one’s sense of the room. For this, he installed a cinema screen, onto which 3D kinetic animation based on algorithms was projected. It is part of his ongoing project titled, “Temporary Immersive Environment Experiments,” which takes the idea of immersion. Immersion into virtual reality is a perception of being physically present in a non-physical world." via Hi-Fructose
