Residual

December 05, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Japan, Motioncollector, 2016

RESIDUAL - An art film directed by Marek Okon is about an artist struggling to realise her creative vision during an intense period of introspection, pain and beauty.

residual5.jpg residual4.jpg residual3.jpg residual2.jpg residual1.jpg

‘Residual’ conjures an intensely personal look at the inner struggle of a creative soul looking to externalise her inner voice into tangible artistic expression. As the struggle moves forward, the artist dives in and out of her thoughts—bobbing up and down on the powerful swells of possibility. Trying to forge progress before the weight of her imagination comes crashing down around her. Only time will tell if this artistic quest will result in breakthrough, insanity or something else all together...

The film showcases Syban Velardi-laufer, a London based performance artist and costume designer who at the time was working on her collection for her Masters in fashion from Bunka university in Tokyo.

November 04, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Instagram, Japan, Portfolios, Photography, 2016

"Tokyo is often associated with the word “dense”, which isn’t surprising considering its status as one of the most populated metropolises in the world; the Japanese capital is a massive melting pot of subcultures and a place where one can find all the latest and hottest trends of Asia. Yoshito Hasaka is one of the millions living in the bustling city. Working as a full-time designer and iOS engineer, his free time is often spent exploring the nooks and crannies of this city with his camera." Read more on VSCO

A World of Wonders

July 18, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Events, Digital Art, Japan, Motioncollector, TOP 2016, 2016

"When you stand among the handiwork of teamLab, a Japanese tech art studio, you’re seemingly transported to a sprawling foreign land that engulfs you in a vibrant, light-filled splendor. This immersive approach is now the focus of a massive exhibition that spans 3,000 square meters (over 32,000 square feet) and is called DMM.Planets Art by teamLab. It showcases a variety of the group’s digital work throughout the years, including new pieces just revealed to the public.

The exhibition features four spaces that offer kaleidoscopic colour schemes and multi-sensory activities. Each piece has its own distinct smell, including: the aroma of flowers, a forest, and “the universe”—a scent that astronaut Naoko Yamazaki helped create."

Tokyo of Liam Wong

April 25, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Instagram, Japan, Photography, Portfolios, 2016

"The hustle and bustle of the city somehow seems to become more beautiful when the sun goes down.Photographer Liam Wong experienced this firsthand and decided to capture the night time in Tokyo with the power of his lens. The just rained-on streets reflect the bright lights leaving a surreal quality to his work. Using a green or pink tone, the lights appear to be completely ingrained in the city’s atmosphere. Each photo offers a different perspective on the city, whether it be a detail shot of the city’s people or a bird’s eye view of the streets."

"Hiroshi Kondo captures the the energy and the loneliness of living in such a vast metropolis in his experimental short, The Others. The slit-scanning film bends time and place into a moving portrait of a Tokyo square by highlighting the individual and the crowd moving both separately and in haunting unison. "

"This film is a collection of audiovisual moments and memories of a 3-week railway journey through Japan in 2015. We were whizzing through the country with the Shinkansen visiting Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima and Kyoto as well as lots of wonderful little places along the way, meeting the most friendly people and experiencing a culture that somehow balances its rich tradition with a very futuristic present." says Vincent Urban who created this video alongside with Alex Schiller and Alex Tank

Dazzle Room by Shigeki Matsuyama

February 23, 2016 by Arseny Vesnin in Art, Japan, Portfolios, 2016

"Dazzle camouflage was a painting used for warships in World War I, when radar technology did not exist. It made it difficult to identify a vessel as well as its heading and speed. The person in the room hides her face with sunglasses, repeats reception and transmission with a smartphone in her hand. Dazzle camouflage that conceals form and direction of a warship is a metaphor of deviation in modern society. Transmission is expressed by painting on human, and reception by the world she sees." says artist Shigeki Matsuyama about her installation "Dazzle Room"
