Björk feat ARCA - Arisen My Sense

December 22, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in 2017

Presented by Wetransfer

Björk’s newest music video, Arisen My Senses, features giant, slug-type-creatures writhing around. Weirdly for Björk – and collaborator Jesse Kanda – this doesn’t seem that weird. Liv Siddall looks at the musician’s creative legacy and meets the man you call when you need a giant rubber slug suit...

Three Stones - Kalakmul

December 15, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in 2017

THREE STONES — a film about a wanderer who's perspective is constantly shifting through various phases of lucid dreaming. As the film progresses from the calmness of lush greenery in the Japanese countryside to the electrifying night scenes of Tokyo, the wanderer’s extraordinary yet graceful movement synchronises with the airy atmospheric track and its textures and ethnic rhythms.

‘Three Stones’ is a self-funded production driven by the passion and creativity of a unique group of people. The female aerialist featured in the film is Maika Isogawa, who up until recently was on tour with Totem for Cirque du Soleil. The video is produced by Strategy Set, an award-winning international production and creative agency based in Australia and Japan. The art director, Marek Okon, is a Tokyo-based independent creative who previously worked for Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo on brands such as Nike, Spotify, and Sony. The music was produced by Kalakmul, a psychedelic dub DJ and music producer based in rural Chiba, Japan. The film was colour graded by Toshiki Kamei, currently a colourist at Cutters Tokyo.

OK Go — Obsession: 568 Printers in 1 Take

November 27, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in 2017

Known for their tireless endeavor to come up with new techniques and ideas, OK GO never ceases to surprise and excite fans with insurmountable creativity put into their music videos, which have won the world's most prestigious awards from Cannes Lions to the Grammys. For “Obsession for Smoothness,” OK GO ventures beyond their comfort zone once again and partners with a team of world-class professionals to create, not just an exciting new video, but something that would become a phenomenon.

Let's start with SIX Inc., the creative agency – Japan's award-winning advertising agency with several international awards under their belt, led by much coveted creative director Jin Saito. Next up is Daito Manabe, founder and technical director of Rhizomatiks Research – one of the most renowned digital artists in the world, who pushes the boundaries of digital creativity into the unexplored territories. Manabe has been awarded several Cannes Lions, two times the Award of Distinction in the Ars Electronica, and three times the Excellence Prize in the Japan Media Arts Festival. This time, Manabe acts as media artist who develops the program that makes World’s First Paper Mapping music video possible.

The biggest challenge of this project lies not just in developing a program to control all 567 printers used during the shooting. This large-scale production involves designing graphic patterns to be printed on each piece of Double A paper – design made by Karan Singh. Project also recruits the talent of MIKIKO, the choreographer behind many memorable music videos including ones of BABYMETAL, Perfume, Salyu and Sakura Gakuin. MIKIKO will design movements of all 4 members of OK GO and make sure they are coordinated with the Paper Mapping background.

Shot in one take, every single element from rhythm, music, the flow of paper, movement blocking to choreography needs to be precise – you can't miss even by a millimeter. Professionalism aside, the success lies as much in the degree of “Obsession” put into the project by all involved – an obsession to create this phenomenon of world-class smoothness.

Spoon - Do I Have to Talk You Into It

October 26, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in 2017

Spoon’s music video made entirely in Photoshop goes out to its graphic designer fanbase

"Photoshop is used on the regular for music videos but for Spoon’s latest video, Do I Have to Talk You Into It, director Brook Linder has brought the trusty Adobe programme to centre stage."

The director has previously created music videos for Beck, Nine Inch Nails and The Lemon Twigs. According to Spoon’s statement in Pitchfork, this film honours a large proportion of the band’s fans. “We did the research, and it turns out 80% of our fanbase is composed of graphic designers,” says Britt. “This one’s for y’all."

ALDA: A Film by Lucy Hardcastle

October 20, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in 2017

To celebrate the launch of the Levi’s® Made & Crafted® AW/17 collection Riposte commissioned a series of creative works that took inspiration from the Icelandic stories behind the collection.

Visual artist Lucy Hardcastle (previously) created ALDA, a material narrative exploring in live action the raw, unpredictable and awe inspiring elements of Iceland, both physical and spiritual. The film was brought to life by a powerful and dramatic soundscape by Nabihah Iqbal.

To bring a hands on element to the project Patternity has created Alchemical Appreciation, a screen-print design that melds the alchemical symbols for fire and ice against the background of dappled volcanic rock. The black ink in the final piece has been created using volcanic ash which gave each of the prints texture and tactility.

Alchemical Appreciation by Patternity

The whole process has been captured in a behind the scenes film which you can watch below. It documents each of the creative processes and tells the story in the words of the women we have collaborated with.

Each of the commissions reference the beautiful design details of the collection and the strong Icelandic influences. From mossy hills and steaming springs to volcanic terrain and soft, snowy glaciers, these are some of Iceland’s awe-inspiring extreme elements which are reflected in the colours and textures of the collection.

Fischerspooner - Togetherness feat. Caroline Polachek

October 18, 2017 by Arseny Vesnin in 2017

One of our favourite electroclash band Fischerspooner is making a return since the release of the last album "Entertainment" in 2009. Their new single with our another favourite Caroline Polachek , "Togetherness" is hyper-modern. "Co-produced by Michael Stipe, is among the more sonically experimental songs in the Fischerspooner catalog." via Pitchfork
