PYE Store by Lesha Galkin

Talented StPete based designer Lesha Galkin from Dopludo was commissioned by "Pimp Your Eyes" eyewear store to create sales point at Moscow FLACON Design Factory. The idea came quickly - modular parts of a spaceship, worth to mention Lesha completed architectural university and Le Corbusier's Modulor is his midnight fellow. The interior was made up from 477 module pieces cut from a plywood, smart and light-weight choice for exhibitions. The results are posted below, don't forget to watch a video. http://www.behance.net/gallery/PYE-Store/12374703

Skull Armchair

Skull Armchair is an ominously powerful looking piece of furniture by French designer Harold Sangouard, aka Harow, that seems fit for anyone interested in comfort as they plot sinister moves. It definitely reminds me the work of another designer Maximo Riera with his series of "The Animal Chair"

Chocolate paints by Nendo

Japanese based studio Nendo recently designed a limited quantity of chocolate-paints for the Seibu Department Store in Japan. They describe their new creation as a "...design that combines the childhood excitement of opening a new box of paints and the thrill of opening a box of chocolates you’ve been given unexpectedly." The twelve boxed chocolate-paint-tubes are flavoured with a different syrup according to the colour of their labels (which also play the role of wrappers)

Hercules XIII tablet stand by Scott Eaton

You might have seen recent buzz about Lady Gaga's life-size sculpture made in collaboration of Scott Eaton and Jeff Koons. Creepy but that's pop culture. Let's switch to the latest work of Scott - Hercules XIII tablet stand - the second of its type after "The Venus of Cupertino". It features oversized Hercules (hence we call oatmeal in Russia by this greek name of the famous half-god) holding any tablet with an outstanding grace. If you like them both you will definitely appreciate their collide in Venus Lamp shown below :)

From the Knees of my Nose to the Belly of my Toes

"Created by British designer Alex Chinneck, this fun intervention creates the illusion that a brick facade has melted right off the side of a building and into the front yard. Titled From the Knees of my Nose to the Belly of my Toes, the piece was installed in the English seaside town of Margate, and the artist chose to present it without any identifying information, leaving locals amused and scratching their heads."

The Selby

Todd Selby is a portrait, interiors, journalist and fashion photographer and illustrator. His project The Selby offers an insider’s view of creative individuals in their personal spaces with an artist’s eye for detail. The Selby began in June 2008 as a website, theselby.com, where Todd posted photo shoots he did of his friends in their homes. Requests quickly began coming in daily from viewers all over the world who wanted their homes to be featured on the site. The Selby’s website became so influential — with up to 100,000 unique visitors daily—that within months, top companies from around the world began asking to collaborate. These joint projects have included ad campaigns and collaborations with Louis Vuitton, FENDI, Nike, Microsoft, Hennessy, Habitat, Slowear, Ikea, Heineken and a solo show at Colette.

Take a deep breath and go deep into the interesting visual stories from creative people

FlyKly Smart Wheel

In 2011 Niko Klansek introduced the first line of the FlyKly electric bicycles to the USA market. After the first experience with the electric bicycles he realized the many possibilities of how to innovate on the e-bike field. The time was ideal to finally actualize the idea he had for years on how to upgrade the ordinary bicycle with a motor and turn it into a pedal assist. Niko sketched the rough concept and started working with a team of engineers, designers, software developers and bicycle culture researchers and created the first working prototype in early 2013.With their new FlyKly Smart Wheel the process is simple. Just buy the appropriate size, remove your rear wheel and replace it with the FlyKly Smart Wheel. As you begin to pedal, the motor is activated and begins accelerating to your desired speed (the motor also stops when you stop pedalling). This allows you to ride your bike effortlessly; you’re travelling faster, saving you not only time - but energy too.

The Quarterly

Founder of The Creative Book project, Sanj Sahota, who works as a designer for ORB Brand Agency UK by day, has turned to the popular crowd-funding website, www.kickstarter.com to raise funds to cover printing costs for the second issue of his latest endeavour, The Quarterly Magazine, which he describes as: "A creative journal with a focus on the photographic medium which aims to do things ethically and fairly".

In October, Mr Sahota and the team will also be hosting a 3-day exhibition in London to celebrate the launch of issue 2 of The Quarterly and further promote all of their contributors exclusively featured work from the printed magazine. "We're going to put together something amazing where people can meet our talented contributors and have a chance to see all of their work up in lights. True talent deserves recognition and we want to make sure we shout about it from the rooftops."

Phonebloks

A phone only lasts a couple of years before it breaks or becomes obsolete. Although it's often just one part which killed it we throw everything away since it's almost impossible to repair or upgrade. But Dutch designer Dave Hakkens has another view on this problem. He just rethinks the way a phone may be constructed taking in account bricks based system Phonebloks. With functional modules you can construct a phone that can fit your needs of the moment, or the needs of particular audience or whatever you want.

Stack Printer by Mugi Yamamoto

“My diploma project is a compact inkjet printer, which is placed on top of a paper pile. When printing, “Stack” slowly moves downwards and swallows the pile until no paper is left. The paper disappears under the printer and exits on top, where it creates a new pile. Thanks to this new way of printing it is possible to remove the paper tray, the bulkiest element in common printers. This concept allows a very light appearance and avoids frequent reloading.” http://www.mugiyamamoto.com/

Balance from Within

Imagine the 170-years old sofa is balancing on one leg. Creative Applications writes "Created by Jacob Tonski, artist-in-residence at the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry, ”Balance from Within” is an installation that includes a 170-year-old Victorian sofa which balances precariously on one leg, continuously teetering, responding internally to external forces. Inside the body of the sofa, a robotic assembly maintains balance dynamically. As the sofa begins to fall, the mechanism senses tilting and exerts a force appropriate to counter the falling, resulting in an endless wobbling back and forth."

Balance comes from within. It’s a delicate act, and sometimes we fall down. ‘Balance from Within’ is a meditation on the nature of human relations, and the things we build to support them.

Map 2: the zoomable map on paper

Designer Anne Stauche has just developed a folding paper map that mimics some of the features of their digital counterparts. Map 2 zooms in when unfolded. Starting with an overview of a city, it then unfolds into a transit map, and then again into four equal section. Each one is a zoomed view of a city area. So far she has made maps for Berlin and London.

The Chandelier Tree in LA

"Several years ago Los Angeles-based airbrush make-up artist, photographer and designer Adam Tenenbaum was bequeathed several large vintage chandeliers that he thought might look good in his home, but to his dismay they were a bit too large. Then an idea struck him: why not hang a few in the giant tree in his front yard. The Chandelier Tree was born. Filmmaker Colin Kennedy passed the tree almost daily for nearly six years and finally decided to sit down the Tenenbaum to shoot this short documentary about this strange and beautiful tree." - Colossal

Damned Lamp by Luc Merx

Designed by Dutch architect Luc Merx, the Damned.MGX chandelier was produced using additive layered fabrication as one piece. It appears as a hovering mass of writhing nudes – opulent and bombastic – and recalls the classical motif of the fall of the damned, challenging viewers with age-old questions of guilt and morality.
