Illustrations by Domonique Brown

October 22, 2019 by Arseny Vesnin in 2019

Domonique Brown is a contemporary Pop artist from Pomona, California. Brown creates energetic portraits that defy traditional pictorial representation. She works from the ground up, layering marker and acrylic strokes until she carves out a colorful portrait.

“I am more than just a woman. I am a black woman. I am part of a race that as fine artists remain unappreciated in contemporary discourse. When you walk into any major art museum, how many works feature or are created by a black artist? Our voices, ideas, and stories remain almost silenced in the fine art world. I want to be a part of a new level of discussion. I want my portraits to tell unknown stories. I want the people of my culture to be represented.”
