Sputnik-5 by Maxim Scherbakov

Maxim Scherbakov of design studio Plan-S23 (with Alexey Galkin) created the Sputnik-5 coffee table so that small plants or herbs can grow inside it. The structure and the name of the table is inspired by the Soviet satellite that first took living objects into space and returned them safely to Earth. The designer states: “The table acts as a watchman of a plant bursting from the aperture of the marble surface.” The table is actually built up from a series of components, each of the elements can also be used independently as decorative pieces.

My Whale

"My Whale" is a site-specific installation by Tundra for a renovated ship "Brusov", laid up on Moscow river and turned into an art-cluster.

my-whale1

my-whale2

3my-whale2

my-whale4 There is an impressive space at the front of the ship, with panoramic windshield and hexagonal pattern on the vaulted ceiling, remained from the 70-s, the time, when “Brusov” was constructed in Austria. Standing there gives you the feeling of floating through the reflections of the Krymsky bridge lights on the river, inside a giant whale head. Looking through its eyes, listening to its songs that flow across the brain made of hexagonal cells by the wires hanging down here and there. With some light and sound we brought this whale to life.

Dressing The Screen identity

Bilingual Identity for a new international British Council exhibition Dressing the Screen: The Rise of Fashion Film. The work has been created by a Moscow-based trio of young designers Roma Lazarev, Kir Khachaturov and Vladislav Poliakov and recently won the Yellow Pencil at D&AD 2014 New Blood The basis of our concept is a well-known optical effect animating static images discovered in the early XIX century by a prominent English scientist Peter Mark Roger. Today it is mostly known as “motograph” or “scanimation”. This breakthrough played a significant role in the history of filmmaking. Inspired by the “motograph” effect and experimental photoworks by a great fashion photographer Erwin Blumenfeld, we created a special font and developed a system reflecting the high-fashion and moving image nature of the exhibition and reminding of the pioneering role that Great Britain played in the development of fashion film.

Food Art by Dina Belenko

Russian self-taught photographer Dina Belenko creates alluring still life images which she calls “photoillustrations”. Combining creative and well arranged compositions with photography and a little bit of photo manipulation skills, Belenko creates beautiful food photography starring various inanimate objects: food products, utensils and other props.

I prefer still life because the role of chance is incredibly limited here. You may feel as a director < …> Each failure is your own failure, but every victory is also completely yours.

Belenko is participating in an ongoing project called “An Endless Book”. Each week, participants have to upload an artwork under a self-selected topic. At the end of 2015, a huge panoramic image will be made featuring all of their works. You can read more about it at the official website.
