SWANS by Marco Barotti

December 15, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin

“Swans” by Marco Barotti seems like a harmless and naive name for the radical yet subtle intervention in nature accomplished by this work. Irony is a clearly recognizable element of this installation made from eight satellite dishes, seven white and one black, obvious waste elements of our society representing the power of mainstream TV and mass media. Brought to life by sound, wind and water, these animals float peacefully in a pond, merging perfectly with the nature surrounding them. Speakers installed above the bases of the former satellite dishes serve as the animals’ heads. Two layers of sound design consisting of bass frequencies and human breath passing through brass instruments provide them with voice and motion. Eight individual audio channels are used to transport the sound through the swans, bringing them to life and remodeling the landscape. This image provokes both a sense of revulsion and an intimate feeling of familiarity, serving as a hack of the natural environment while challenging the audience with its amalgamation of tech waste and wildlife. The omnipresent hand of humanity is unmistakable in its role as a kind of god in the same way that humanity relates to nature.

The Timeless Wisdom

December 08, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin

These are the original works of art inspired by the ancient Indian Art of Yantras (Mandalas) that are representation of different forms of energies.

In this collection, the Six Upanishads (Upanishads are the ancient Indian Spiritual books dealing with meaning of life as a conversation between various people e.g. a child and the God of Death, a husband and a wife, a sage and a crow etc.) are meditated upon and the original Yantras for the particular sensations are created for each. These Yantras are then associated with the whole Upanishad written in Sanskrit text creating the Space within the Yantra (representation of the universe).

We Are The Underground: Nadia Kodes

December 02, 2015 by Arseny Vesnin in Musicollector

You know how they say: “Fake it until you make it”. This has been my motto for a couple of years.

Hi. I’m Nadia Kodes. I live in the imaginary world, where I’m already a star, conquering huge arenas and making thousands of people happy. While walking down the street, I imagine walking on a red carpet. I “see” fans and journalists around me, they make me smile. Then I ask myself questions as if it’s an interview. This is my life. Is it bad? Am I insane? I’ve asked this question a million times. And the answer is no, I’m not. Faith has an incredible power: if you believe in something then it is real to you.

When I was younger, I thought every person had a dream. Having grown up, I’ve realised how wrong I was. Now I meet a lot of people who are like: “I kinda envy you cause you have a dream”. It turns out that most people just don’t. How can you be happy and fulfilled if you don’t know what you want? Create a dream. Search for it. Set yourself even a tiny goal. I used to dream about becoming a “world star”. But it seems an impossible request to the Universe. “Becoming a world star” means nothing, you have to be concrete, you have to know the details. Now I have a very clear goal and I’ve never felt so good and relaxed. Autumn seems beautiful (and I never liked it), every little thing is magnificent...

Suddenly a song comes to my mind. A song I wrote a few years ago when I felt quite miserable. It’s called “Music for no one”. The opening line is “I’m so tired of chasing success”. Well, I’m not anymore. I’m enjoying life. Then you hear the chorus: “How many years will it take? Do I have to wait a lifetime? Anyway I know my music is for no one”. Tragic, isn’t it? You don’t have to wait a lifetime, it’s called “living and doing what you love”. And whoever listens to my music should know: it’s for you.

My new EP is called “The Underground”. I dedicate it to all the people who’ve suffered depression, felt empty and worthless. "With love you have to try again, You know I’ll always be your friend".
