First time I heard it, I thought it was a man. Second time I heard it I thought it was British. It’s that good. Behind the rather strange stage-name hides Merrill Garbus, american songstress and musician. It is a rare occasion when you have the chance to hear original and catchy music, worthy that of Bjork or Sufjan Stevens. This is that moment, Tune-Yards music is filled with strangely put together yet harmonical sounds combined with a very clever use of vocal. Tribal rhythms, japanese melodies, modified and sequenced vocals and samples create an honest story, a call for action and exploration. Her second album was released in April and tops NME’s list of best albums.
