IdN magazine came with great news about 2x all new IdN issues
IdN v17n1: The Branding Issue Human beings are born with a unique identity – carried in our DNA or via our fingerprints. And when that officer of the law asks you to show him some ID, you simply flash your ID card, passport or driving licence. Things are not that simple for companies and institutions, who have to have one invented for them. Once upon a time, a simple, eye-catching logo did the trick. Now it has all become very much more complicated, with the bigger firms needing a complete “identity system”.
IdN Extra 02: Neo York It’s the evolution of animé that has inspired this book; where this genre came from and how it has come full circle. Post apocalyptic Tokyo is a strong central theme to most anime story lines. We began to ponder what would Neo New York look like, what would be the cultural make up of the city. We invite some great talent to contribute their visions to help with the creation of Neo New York.
Our friends from Ventilate.ca asked several talented artists and designers to participate in their third posters series themed 2000 - "What inspired you ten years ago? What was it that caused you to strive forward? What enticed you to experiment and push boundaries?" After a period of reminiscence followed by heads-down design, the result is a new gallery of nine posters contributed by: Joshua Smith, Marco Vinicio, Jois Tai & Rex Advincula, Jason Doherty, Jodi Terwilliger and Ventilate founders Michael & Yuko Brown
DESIGNCOLLECTOR IS A PROUD PARTNER OF ELECTROLUX DESIGN LAB 2010
To boldly use what no man has used before - the design competition that spawned DustMate Shoes and the FlatShare fridge announces 2010 theme.
Electrolux Design Lab 2010 invites design students to compete for a six-month paid internship and prize money by submitting ideas that consider shrinking domestic spaces. The brief specifically seeks solutions that address how people will prepare and store food, wash clothes, and do dishes in the homes of 2050, when 74%* of the global population are predicted to live in an urban environment.
“Now in its eight year, Electrolux Design Lab offers the designers of tomorrow an opportunity to test themselves and gain valuable insight in to the world of commercial product design” says Henrik Otto, SVP of Global Design at Electrolux. “This year we’re looking for concepts that consider the way we use domestic space. The ideas need to be green, adaptive to time and space and allow for individualization.”
September finals in London
Eight finalists will be invited to participate in the final event in London to present their entries to a jury of expert designers. The jury will consider entries based on intuitive design, innovation and consumer insight when awarding the first prize of a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre and 5,000 Euros. A second prize of 3,000 Euros and third prize of 2,000 Euros are also on offer.
Designcollector became an official media sponsor of European Design Awards 2010 Competition and Festival.
The doors are now open to all graphic designers to compete for European Design Stars; the trophies handed out each year at the ED Awards ceremony. For the fourth successive year, ED Awards invites visual communication professionals to submit their works to the finest pan-European judging panel. Categories include branding; posters; typeface; book & editorial illustration; motion graphics; packaging; promotional sites; annual reports, etc. Fourteen editors from leading European graphic design magazines will judge the entries and reward the best designs.
The winners, including the ‘Jury’s Prize’ and the ‘Agency of the Year’ will be announced at the ED Festival which, this year, will be held in the city of Rotterdam between May 28 - 30, 2010.
Good luck to all participants!
World famous photographer Terry Richardson was invited by Pirelli to bring his brand provocative sense of female body to the new Pirelli Calendar 2010. OK this a rare post on Designcollector to be marked as NSFW (Not Safe For Work).

Designers, illustrators, photographers, design studios, collectives/crews, agencies, students, visual artists... you are welcome to submit an innovative, creative, exciting, personal and experimental artwork inspired by the theme: " WHAT DOES USA MEAN TO YOU? "
USA BY DESIGNERS is an international artistic project whose aim is to unveil a multitude of images of USA from the inside and from the outside. Design as the expression of a cultural vision, a political vision or a simple and unposed feeling... Design and its diversity as a new way to catch USA.
USA BY DESIGNERS is a project of HUG United™ co-founded by Astrid Rousseau and Julien Grandclement aka ODBO.
From time out of mind creative persons compete in giving birth of ideas. To do in isolation is unreal task. Nothing comes from the nothing, but depression. Artists need each other: getting inspired, finding a motivation, to develop their ideas, to match with a rival, to overcome themselves. The person in a crisis is as much alone as in an abyss. But what if brother-in-arms comes to be near and gives you a couple of spare wings? Reach your hand
If you got a dangerous disease, the first your question is: Why Me? You feel extremely alone and so sad that can forget how many got the same dice. It wouldn't be a big support in any case. Then you hear some rumors that someone somewhere has overcame the illness through art. But how exactly they did it? What have exactly they drew? How to find those who really did it? Finally, you are ready to try, but you have no idea what to begin with. Start with the credo: Don’t give up!
