Frieke Janssens is a Belgian Photographer with an amazing portfolio mainly brilliant photographic ad campaigns. One of hers personal projects that made everyone stop, see and talk about is “The Beauty of an Ugly Addiction“.
Inspired by a youtube video of a chain-smoking Indonesian toddler, Janssens “(…)felt that seeing children smoke would have a surreal impact on the viewer and compel them to truly see the acts of smoking rather than making assumptions about the person doing it.“
This project (has you can see in the video in the end of this article) none of the children smoked real cigarette on set. Instead, calk and cheese sticks where used and to create the wisps of smoke, candles and incense was provided. The cigarettes where added in photoshop.
This images are a mix of innocence and beauty with the disturbing and schooling controversial awareness of what is right and wrong.
